  1. Blank was liking my 4-year old posts in Gravity RTM thread the other day. Was kinda torn between feeling grateful and thinking are you really sure this is what you wanna do with your time man?
  2. When I went to see Den of Thieves last week they showed us trailers of 4-5 ultra-junk-looking movies (Hurricane Heist, a Wim Wenders melodrama with McAvoy and Vikander, some Jason Momoa thing called Braven) and then... showed the trailers of the same movies all over again, the really weird part being that the second time they were either shortened or different entirely. Never had that happen before. Maybe the local distributor (all these movies share the same one) is that desperate.
  3. Silence ain't that obvious or basic aside from being his most recent. But yeah Mean Streets, King of Comedy, After Hours, Last Temptation, Age of Innocence, Bringing Out the Dead, all essential.
  4. "I was shocked at how good this is" says the guy who likes everything except the most obvious turkeys.
  5. Thor 2 sure. I didn't mind TIH back in 2008. Based on memories I'd probably put it above Ultron and Civil War too because at least it's not 4 hours long. I also enjoyed it more then than I did the first Thor and Ant-Man years later.
  6. Don't tell me Nic Cage as Superman wouldn't have been better than the entire last decade of superhero movies combined. The world just wasn't ready.
  7. Anything on who is/might be presenting Best Actress? They may have dodged the Affleck bullet but Viola Davis presenting Rockwell an Oscar for playing a magically redeemed racist is still gonna be pretty funny
  8. 725 The Student UTMW $512 It's a Russian movie I saw in the theater when it came out here in October 2016. After that it's Staying Vertical (#600, $12k) at home and Manifesto (#368, $161k) in the theater
  9. 2,000 theaters estimated. Marketing hasn't been nearly effective enough for this to pull an Arrival PTA so... over/under 10m OW? Man I'm depressed.
  10. Hoped this would give us a Darius Khondji-shot space movie but IMDb sez Hoyte's shooting this. What if Gray's about to pull a Nolan oh boy. Also the cast as listed is pretty expansive, lots of actors in supporting and episodic roles. Not just gonna be Pitt by himself in space it looks like. I wonder what kind of budget this got.
  11. James Gray making this movie in his usual style *and* finally getting major recognition with it is probably a pipe dream but I have hopes nonetheless. Wasn't even too hot on Lost City of Z but he's still one of the most underrated directors working. It's also almost certainly bound to be Pitt's first big worthwhile turn since... Moneyball/Tree of Life? Man I didn't quite realize how much he's been slumming it this decade.
  12. RT Features and A24 have firmed their reteam with director Robert Eggers on The Lighthouse, the filmmaker’s follow-up to his sleeper hit The Witch. The new project, a fantasy horror story set in the world of old sea-faring myths, will go into production in the spring. Robert Pattinson, coming off Good Time, joins the project in a lead role alongside Willem Dafoe. The script was written by Robert Eggers and Max Eggers. RT Features’ Rodrigo Teixeira and Lourenço Sant’ Anna developed the project with Robert Eggers and are producing alongside Parts & Labor’s Jay Van Hoy, and Youree Henley. A24 acquired worldwide rights and will distribute the film in the U.S. New Regency (The Revenant) has joined the project as a co-financier. http://deadline.com/2018/02/robert-pattinson-robert-eggers-the-lighthouse-rodrigo-teixera-a24-new-regency-1202290094/
