  1. The ending is very strong yeah. If only the entire thing had been like that.
  2. What made it grow on you? At a certain point I just couldn't take it seriously anymore as it kept leaping from one major story beat to another seemingly without regard for the resulting tone changes. Some of the dialogue is like the movie is unwittingly writing its own porn parody. ("Drink from Lancelot's cup, and partake of his goodness!") I didn't even enjoy Nicol Williamson which probably means that all hope is lost on me. The only things that felt like they aged well were the raw scenery and the casual treatment of sex and violence. I think the latter when combined with the fantasy elements and archetypal characters points at the difficulty in properly adapting Arthur's story; I've never read the actual books like Le Morte d'Arthur or The Once and Future King, but based on everything I've caught over the years and could piece together (correct me if I'm wrong) I feel like you'd need to find a perfect middle ground between the grandiose mythmaking of LOTR and the complex character work and relationships of ASOIAF/Game of Thrones, and good luck pulling that off.
  3. Actually watched Excalibur before heading out to see this and man that was a total cheesefest. Honestly hard to understand how it's still so beloved even by those who grew up with it.
  4. This might be the first top 10 we've had where I don't think any of the movies belongs anywhere near it. Django's the best and even that barely made my top 25.
  5. We got Barbara all the way to 51 which I think is pretty cool actually. I would have thought it'd end up lower. It was also ineligible lmao you people.
  6. I thought one of the great things about Lincoln was that Kushner's writing + DDL's performance so believably showed him as both a human and a mythic larger-than-life figure.
  7. It is the UK release date. Someone made a mistake probably. Would be cool though cause I approve of anything that would hurt the legs of an Illumination movie
  8. Saw this yesterday. Neither disastrous nor good. Moderately fun in the beginning when Ritchie gets to indulge in his stylistic flourishes but that stuff ultimately is not tied to anything and then it only grows louder and messier and more and more pointless. Hunnam is decent but not enough to save/carry it. Law not nearly as hammy as he could/should have been. Pemberton's score is good but he did far better on UNCLE, just as Ritchie himself did.
  9. You should at least give him a try. Anything that's not Life Aquatic or Darjeeling Limited would work OK as an intro
  10. Stuff is either way too high (Les Mis, Beasts, TDKR and Perks and SLP no matter where they ended up) or way too low (The Grey, Dredd). 2012 really reflects this forum at its most exasperating
