I'm not convinced that Ruben Fleischer was in on the joke but I don't think it would've been as funny if he was. The internal war between him trying to make a generic superhero movie and Hardy going all in on his shenanigans is what makes it work.

True Venom fans are elated at the reviews. It's good to be bad, baby.

Venom is kinda bad but it's a fun bad, which is arguably harder to pull off than making a good movie. Plus Tom Hardy is an outstanding Eddie. I think anyone who's seen the post credits scene should be rooting for a sequel here because if they don't give me more of that nonsense I'm gonna be mad as hell.
