  1. I wasn't a big fan of the movie, but I give credit where credit is due. It'd crazy to see a huge run like this. It's also crazy that it took seven years for TDK's records to fall. Colin, Derek, Steven, Chris, and Bryce, I tip my hat to you.
  2. If you had actually paid attention to what I was saying, you'll know that I was speaking in general terms and never mentioned anything specific to the movie. I am not getting into this again. End of story.
  3. Summer family tentpoles often drop on Saturday, unless they opened on Wednesday. It also happened to WALL-E, The Smurfs, Brave, Cars 2, and HTTYD2. At most, other family films increased 5%.
  4. Thankfully, the sexism that might have been there is pretty much not. Howard's character is fine, and dare I say, possibly the best in the film. I have to say, I was impressed by her. She's no Furiosa, but she actually gets to have a bit of fun. My being impressed with the movie stops there. It's standard, safe blockbuster fare for most of it, and even Pratt doesn't get to have a lot of fun. I counted more cliches and rip-offs in this movie than product placements (No, because you make a joke about does not make it instantly less annoying). Honestly, on the drive home, nothing really stood out for me in the long run. Having said that, it's fun, albeit fairly disposable entertainment. It's not something to bring your brain to, but it could have been a lot worse. It's decently enjoyable for what it is.
  5. If that happens, Inside Out would have to open right along with MU, which I think is too strong to give JW a $100m opening.
  6. I'm still worried about The Good Dinosaur. In an ideal situation, both are amazing and make it in, but I wonder if Pixar might downplay the weaker film's campaign in order to assure a slot.
  7. From which side? Most of the Pixar fans have already accepted its fate.
  8. It's super annoying to predict for Dope when I have no idea how many theaters it's going to be on. I could see anything between 800 and 2,500.
  9. Two films led by Parks and Recreation stars are going to combine to $150m next weekend. I love it.
  10. It didn't come, sadly. Also saw When Marnie Was There. It was probably lesser Ghibli for me, but I still liked it. The ending certainly hits you in the feels, but a lot of the plot is rather convoluted and there are some minor characters that don't do anything interesting. The plot reveals are fairly obvious once you get more information, as well. But come on, Ghibli almost always has heartfelt messages and beautiful scenery, so there's not much to complain about. Didn't get to see the other stuff on Sunday since I needed to take over a shift a work, sadly.
  11. 1. Jurassic World - $90.3m 2. Inside Out - $63.7m 3. Spy - $10.8m 4. San Andreas - $7.5m 5. Dope - $6.7m 6. Insidious Chapter 3 - $3.4m 7. Pitch Perfect 2 - $3.2m 8. Tomorrowland - $2.9m 9. Mad Max: Fury Road - $2.8m 10. Avengers: Age of Ultron - $2.5m
  12. Slow West was brilliant. Not very GA friendly, but has great style and great performances. Was also a big fan of Best of Enemies, which could have digged deeper into its subjects but was tremedously entertaining. Gods was pretty brilliant at times, but feels overlong. Becoming Bulletproof is fairly typical feel-good fare, but it's fine. Macaroni and Cheese was pretty funny. The Sundance shorts were amazing. Word of Tomorrow was especially a standout. More of y'all need to know about Don Hertzfeld Catch Me Daddy was the one I didn't like. It becomes visually dull after a while (some really good cinematography in the first half, though), but the movie never really comes together and I never really had much of a reason to care about what was going on.
  13. Then you have something like Super 8, where the child actors are literally the only thing that work in that movie.
  14. Wow, CJohn must have jizzed enough to fill up an entire sandbox at a playground. Hmmm....
  15. One movie doesn't carry the marketplace on its own. The box office outside of JP is a graveyard. Inside Out and Ted will be relatively fine.
  16. If Inside Out manages to open along with other original Pixar films, next weekend could be another one for the June record books.
