  1. Watch as it makes $25m today and $90m on Friday and people call it a dissapointment.
  2. I know it's wishful thinking, but it would be totally cool to see Oscar Isaac (or any of the Ex Machina actors for that matter) show up here.
  3. You're not really wrong, but there's a difference between killing animals for food and medicine than just to make an artistic statement. I say this as a vegetarian (98% of the time, admittedly, but still at it after nearly two years). I am not justifying the treatment of animals in several institutions in society, but making an artistic point is not an excuse for brutality.
  4. 1. Avengers: Age of Ultron - $214.7m 2. Furious 7 - $8.1m 3. Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 - $7.5m 4. The Age of Adaline - $6.3m 5. Home - $4.4m 6. Ex Machina - $3.2m 7. Unfriended - $2.5m 8. Cinderella - $2.4m 9. Monkey Kingdom - $2.1m 10. The Longest Ride - $1.9m
  5. Pretty fantastic film that dives not just into the potential fears that could come from AI, but also the fearful and distrustful components of human nature as well. All four performances were great, and the film is aesthetically powerful, but there's so much more to it beyond praising its components. Watching Nathan abuse his previous AIs likely created a distrustful image of humanity in Ava's eyes, which may have been a potential component for her deciding to leave Caleb trapped in the house. It becomes interesting when the character motivations aren't as clear cut as others.
  6. Wow, it's such a shame that there aren't any movies that are breaking out that critics actually liked I think it's not the end of the world if Paul Blart or Home does well. Besides, we've been through this at least a hundred times before. Comedies and family films are much more critic-proof than other genres, but let's not pretend that those snobby critics are hopelessly out of touch with audiences. I mean, for fuck's sake! Critics preferred FAST AND FURIOUS 7 to a Helen Mirren WWII-centered drama.
  7. Mr. Peabody and Sherman > How To Train Your Dragon 2.
  8. 1. Inside Out 2. Avengers: Age of Ulton 3. Mad Max: Fury Road 4. Hail Caesar! 5. When Marnie Was There 6. Jurassic World 7. Bridge of Spies 8. Tomorrowland 9. The Martian 10. Me and Earl and the Dying Girl
  9. It's hard to get excited for this when all of his films since Robin Hood were the ones that were like, "Okay, THIS TIME will revive Ridley Scott's Career!", but the story does seem legitimately interesting.
  10. Aside from the concept, it's not the most original and unique film in terms of story, but it offers enough juicy drama and interesting techniques that make it a really fun time.
  11. Aside from Paddington, the family films this year haven't been having very good legs. :/
  12. Also, has Ando logged on yet? Better remember who your two senators are, forums.
  13. Surprised and dissapointed at Unfriended's bad WOM. Nothing about it seemed to be really off, and my crowd was generally really engaged. Are people just not biting at the concept?
  14. I'm not sure, but something around what Spectacular Now had in its widest release (maybe around 700) seems about right.
  15. 1. Inside Out 2. Avengers: Age of Ulton 3. Mad Max: Fury Road 4. Hail Caesar! 5. When Marnie Was There 6. Jurassic World 7. Bridge of Spies 8. Tomorrowland 9. The Martian 10. Me and Earl and the Dying Girl
  16. Paul Blart is aimed at families, so it probably had deflated preview numbers. Also a bit disappointed by Unfriended's numbers. It's a surprisingly great movie. I'm guessing the R rating mugh have really hurt it.
  17. I know it sounds premature to say this without much info on The Good Dinosaur yet, but I feel like Inside Out should be the film Pixar really pushes to its success. I have a sinking feeling that all the production craziness on TGD may end up hampering the final product, and even if it doesn't, Inside Out is already building up a ton of good will. Again, we need to see how the cards fall, but I think Pixar is going to play IO before TGD in this race.
  18. Fantastic! What We Do In The Shadows Really Good Kingsman: The Secret Service Good Unfriended Furious 7 Cinderella Ok Meh 50 Shades of Grey Weak Bad Jupiter Ascending Atrocious
  19. Is anyone else getting a bit of a Baz Lurhman vibe here?
  20. It's probably thinking that with American Sniper, January can be a hot spot. I'm a bit surprised that they didn't move it to January 15th. Yeah, the Nut Job is there, but it'll probably decrease from the first quite readily. Nothing justifies the existence of that movie.
