  1. Loved Gremlins. It's a very intense to kids but in a twisted and funny way. Very harmless at the end. Way more edgier than the blockbusters of today. It's even more scarier than some of today's horror movies. Everything about the movie was awesome. I even wanted that pink corvette toy for Christmas. Great list Baumer, enjoyed it all the way through!
  2. This movie probably has one of the funniest 3rd acts ever. I recorded that part of the film and watched it over and over on VHS...
  3. I watched this movie a ton as a kid. It is a great feel good movie. As you said, Corey Haim had real talent but didn't have the management to keep him away from the Corey and Corey garbage (along with the drugs). It was easy for Hollywood to dismiss him after that.
  4. Sharon Stone in my opinion never topped this movie performance wise. Way better than in Casino where she got nominated for an Oscar. It's shocking that she really never became the megastar as most thought she would back in 1992.
  5. I enjoyed this movie a lot. It was a fresh take on the horror genre though it doesn't get much credit for it. One of the better horror movies during the late 80's.
  6. More good movies on the list. A Bronx Tale - Defintely very underrated 90's movie. The screenplay for this movie was great and made me think at the time that Chazz Palminteri would go on to bigger and better things. I don't think it really happened. Children of the Corn - Definately a horror 80's classic. A fresh new concept at time with the slasher fad somewhat dying down. The actor who played Issac was super creepy. Not just because of the role, the actor had this "man-boy" thing that made it even more creepier. Oscar - As a Sly fan, this is one of the few movies of his I never watched. I remember he was trying to do the comedy thing around time with this and "Stop or my Mom will Shoot". I unfortunately watched the latter at the theater and it was awful, lol.
  7. I haven't seen Mississippi Burning in years but it was a movie my father made me watch as a kid. Glad that he did that. Very powerful movie.
  8. With 2018, I think this will be the first year in a while where a Star Wars movie will not be #1 domestically. My predictions for now: I consider myself a Star Wars fanboy but have no interest in the Han Solo movie. I'm suspecting others will feel the same. For me, Harrison Ford was the reason why Han Solo was awesome, the idea of someone doing an imitation of him is not that appealing to me. It simply doesn't have any hook unlike Rouge One being the first spin-off and with Vader appearing in it. At the end, I will probably go see it but think this a movie the general GA will skip. Han Solo - 350M (easily could go lower if it's bad) With Black Panther, I think the goodwill from Civil War combined with the majority of the cast being black and a release date during black history month, there will be some novelty and hype surrounding this movie. Especially with the directing talent of Coogler, it could be special. Black Panther - 300M+ The rest: Jurassic World 2 - 430M Avengers: IW Part 1 - 420M Toy Story 4 - 350M Deadpool - 320M Mary Poppins - 300M Grinch - 250M Ant-Man - 200M Animated Spider-Man - 180M
  9. This is where I'm at with 2017: 1. Star Wars Episode VIII – 700M 2. Beauty and the Beast – 400M 3. Guardians – 360M 4. Spider-Man – 350M 5. Justice League – 315M 6. Despicable Me 3 – 310M 7. Lego Batman – 275M 8. Wonder Woman – 255M 9. Thor – 250M 10. Fast and Furious 8 – 240M * Star Wars will begin its drop to the standard huge blockbuster level (400-500M) but it has around 2-3 films left before it hits that level. * People seemed to be blown away with the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Spider-Man footage. Both movies should be in contention for the highest grossing CBM in 2017. If the Baby Groot thing takes off, I wouldn't surprise me Guardians really take off close to 400M. * I'm not as high as others on Wonder Woman but a 200M+ gross would be great for it.
  10. I liked Young Guns but didn't care for the sequel as much. I did love Bon Jovi's solo song "Blaze of Glory" for the sequel. The song went very well with the ending.
  11. This is a very cool list. It's a great point of reference for movie viewing at home. Also, it just shows how much Hollywood has changed over the last 20-30 years. It's either a big budget blockbuster, animated movie or an Oscar bait movie in today's environment. Nothing in the middle really exists outside of a occasional movie here and there. Don't get me wrong, I love my comic book movies and some of the prestige flicks but it's generally a very boring time for moviegoers. Hopefully Netflix or another streaming service help to fill the void of the mid-budget movies. I think it's really missed.
  12. I made it through like 20 seconds. It looked very bad. The look and tone felt completely off like some experimental movie.
  13. I need to check out Angel Heart again. I watched it as a kid on home video and did not understand it much at all at the time. Probably will enjoy it much more now. I was a huge fan of Lisa Bonet from the Cosby Show/Different World and remember the controversy with Bill Cosby not being cool with a "Cosby kid" doing nudity. Interesting how things turned out.
  14. Thanks man. The movie industry was different in the 80's. Outside of a few actors, you only had only a few chances to hit it big as the lead. I saw a post you made in the weekend thread about Zac Efron. It's much easier to attach yourself to tentpoles or drama ensembles to keep the train going. I think Weathers would of been a bigger star in the current environment. Dude would of been an awesome presence in today's movies.
  15. I'm loving this list so far, below are my thoughts: Cadillac Man: Very underrated film that I still love to this day. Became a Lori Petty fan from it. Action Jackson: Being African American, Action Jackson was sort of a superhero movie for me when I was a kid. lol. The commercials made him such a bad ass. Also, there wasn't many African Americans leading action films at that time. One of my favorite 80's action films outside of Sly and Arnold. My Bloody Valentine: I caught this movie a couple of years prior to the remake and loved it. Easily one of the best slasher films of that era.
  16. Casualties of War was a movie that I watched as a kid with my older sister and thought it was very disturbing at the time. I still enjoyed the movie and think it's one of the best Vietnam War movies. Also, Michael J. Fox was very good opposite Sean Penn. I wish Fox had gotten more chances as a dramatic movie actor.
  17. Scarface, Dressed to Kill and Carrie are my favorites. Phantom of of the Paradise is an awesome hidden gem.
  18. I think that was the whole point of casting him. Downey got $40M and I believe a bonus if the movie surpassed the Winter Solider. The movie in my opinion would not have surpassed $800M WW without Iron Man or the Avengers. Cap is not that popular of character internationally.
  19. I honestly don't buy that. The Joker is big business and would be surprised if it didn't go past $100M OW. Thinking $300-325M right now assuming the movie is decent to good.
  20. I see that John Carpenter recently trashed Friday the 13th on a podcast: http://www.cinemablend.com/m/new/Harsh-Criticism-John-Carpenter-Has-Original-Friday-13th-133827.html Why does he care at this point? Yes, Friday was a slight rip-off but he should be very happy that his slasher formula became very popular in the 80's.
  21. You're right but it's going to happen to all universes including Star Wars. Once the current trilogy ends, the numbers will also drop. The question is what range does it drops to. If the biggest Marvel films is able to maintain the 400-450 million range (even high 300's), Disney will be very happy. All franchises but one (Star Wars) would be happy with that result.
  22. I read in the South Korea forum on the speculation that the viewers were Team Iron Man and with the big revel that Cap knew at the end, didn't play well with the audience and they started to hate the Cap character. Thats a huge problem. You shouldn't leave the theater hating the main character.
  23. I remeber when the first Avenger came out, most thought at the time thought a character with "America" in his name would be an issue overseas. I believe it was a concern for the winter solider but it did better than most expected. Is it possible that it was somewhat of a problem and limited the jump to the 1.2 or 1.3 billion?
