  1. Riker is like a tree -- he gets thicker every season. I always have to put the Original Series first on my list, despite the fact it's pretty cheesy overall: it's what made me get into Trek in the first place (of course, back then there was only the OS and the short animated series). Next is TNG (but those first 2 seasons were horrible), and then I guess DS9, although I drifted away from it after a couple of seasons and got interested in Babylon 5 instead. I've only seen some Voyager episodes, and a couple Enterprise ones, and they were all terrible.
  2. Well, my list is a bit different, but then again, I'm sort of derailing the topic.GOODDark KnightStar WarsEmpire Strikes BackE.T.Lion KingToy Story 3Return of the KingSpidey 2Jurassic ParkTwo Towersedit: Fellowship of the Ring (how could I forget this?!)MEDIOCREAvatarTitanicShrek 2Pirates: Dead Man's ChestSpider-ManHP: Deathly Hallows 2Revenge of the SithPassion of the ChristForrest GumpIron ManHarry Potter: Sorcerer's StoneReturn of the JediIndependence DayPirates: Black PearlHP: Half-Blood Prince(Eclipse? 3. Love it. Always entertaining to watch, and you even learn a bit of science (admittedly perhaps not as much as you might think). It's also one of the few shows that'll occasionally drive me to tears with laughter.
  4. Yes, yes, yes, yes, etc.In fact, I'd argue that really shitty movies outnumber the good ones in the $300m club.
  5. Lawrence of Arabia, among the other usual suspects.
  6. Dark of the Moon deserves to be on the list too.
  7. You should put HP/Sorcerer's Stone up there too.
  8. Not to mention, that pic is a MASSIVE MASSIVE SPOILER. DO NOT LOOK AT IT IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN SEASON 4.
  9. Boring? Really? I mean, I can understand if people find MAD MEN slow-going, but even when it's deliberate, BB is so pulpy and darkly comedic and violent that I can't imagine calling it boring. Every season has its moments where it slows down to set things up down the road, but not only does each season end with a bang, but cumulatively the seasons build on each other.
  10. TINTIN is too light and insignificant to win, IMHO. It's a fun ride and very entertaining, but it's a trifle.
  11. (a) seems pretty early for any estimate( if true, this would set new records for front loaded-ness by a major opener, right?
  12. If you had to compare it to an HP movie, wouldn't DH1 be a better choice? (Artificial book-splitting/cliffhanger, part 1 of a two-part finale, holiday release, no 3D, etc....)
  13. Fincher doesn't care about the Academy and they don't care about him. That's not going to change for the near future, IMHO.
  14. I'm guessing DRAGON will be too grim and bleak to get a BP nom. (Haven't read the book, haven't seen the original film, just going off reputation of the story and Fincher).
  15. The Academy, as a single entity, may want to appeal to popular movies to get ratings... but individually, people don't take that into consideration. No one for a movie just because they want the telecast to be big. They vote for what spoke to them emotionally, they vote for their friends, and they vote for themselves. I don't think DH2 has enough love to snag the required 5 percent of #1 votes. In fact, I think no matter how stodgy/arty/whatever the nominations are this year, already the Oscars will gain more interest simply because of the Ratner/Eddie Murphy fallout and the return of Billy Crystal.
  16. Agreed. Without people needing to come up with 10 nominees, there's no impetus for DH2... and right now in Hollywood the movies that are getting Academy love are THE ARTIST and THE DESCENDENT.
  17. I'd put DH2 on the bubble instead of EXTREMELY LOUD...
  18. Just wait until TH1 comes out and obliterates both.
  19. Ray's correct in pointing out that (domestically) the Twilight franchise has done a better job of maximizing its fan base (in other words, per-fan average). HP is much more successful doing that worldwide, but I don't see why there should be any disagreement or outrage about what he said (and I say that as a non-fan of either franchise).
