I do think it could pull a Captain Marvel/Black Panther if reception is on point. I could see it, especially as Latinos make up a large portion of ticket sales.
I would say an OW around Homecoming and Wonder Woman like legs.
Okay I can kind of buy rumors of Chapek not getting renewed now as dude has put Disney out in the light and has forced them to now actually take sides. It’ll be much harder from them to try to fault LGBTQ merch for pride month because it’s clear this issue will not blow away in a week. Mainly because now the employees are willing to speak out and it’s all because Chapek is such a bad people person. All he needed was to denounce the bill from the getgo and he’d have gotten away with it.
All in all it’s a good thing. It won’t be an overnight process as this extends throughout the mouse empire (It also does have me curious on how some things will be handled for Multiverse of Madness and Love and Thunder which comes from golden goose Marvel with LGBTQ main leads) but it’s good that change is beginning to happen.
Dreamworks seems to have been decreasing their animation budget a lot since Universal owns them. Sometimes it can look really good like in The Bad Guys but for Puss in Boots it’s kind of awkward due to the original established style.
Dog Man might be something you’d dig. It’s from the same author as Underpants and I believe some of the same crew.
I can definitely see higher if Universal does as strong a job as they do for their animations. High end I can see a $150m domestic total but the eleven year wait probably hurt it.
Even if Puss 2 does Smallfoot numbers, the budget seems $80m or under so it should easily break even. I also think it wouldn’t impede a Shrek 5, as everything is being rebooted and sequel-ed.
I can kind of see that too. Though fan favorites like Tails and Knuckles and a more action packed scope help, the family films haven’t done well this past few years apart from Sing 2. Also something about the movie gives me Lego Batman vibes. It won’t completely crash like Lego 2 or TMNT2 but I can see the OW being smaller mainly due to it, albeit family friendly opens against a lot of other geek friendly stuff like Morbius and Dumbledore. It also loses the PLFs it needs to Ambulance.
Morbius and Dumbledore together should equate to around $80m combined opening weekend wise. The former I can see opening to $50m cause the GA loves Marvel and the latter despite JK Rowling being a huge transphobic piece of shit still has enough gas for an OW around Dark Phoenix.
