  1. Dragon 3 is probably fucked then. They have a five season tv show on Netflix. Lego 2, HT3 and Animated Spider-Man might be in trouble too.
  2. https://www.forbes.com/sites/scottmendelson/2017/09/27/box-office-why-so-many-animated-movies-have-done-so-poorly-in-2017/#2762547670fd Now we can argue that Despicable Me 3 played to adults and kids on the strength of the popular predecessors or we can merely argue that Illumination is just a trusted babysitter brand that it’s the exception to the rule. But going forward, we may have to start looking at animated features in terms of their ability to not just entice the kids but also entice their parents in a world where a two-hour Netflix binge on episodes of LEGO Ninjago is a heck of a lot cheaper than a family trip to the multiplex. After all, staying home avoids the bazillions in concession purchases. That so many animated brands are doing theatrical and TV at the same time doesn’t help. Why splurge (tickets, concessions, parking, etc.) for Kung Fu Panda 3 when you can watch Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness for free? What’s so exciting about a LEGO Ninjago movie when there’s a TV series, especially when the movie isn’t connected to the show? And if a given animated feature like Emoji Movie or Captain Underpants doesn’t appeal to adults, it faces a disadvantage in a marketplace where theatrical moviegoing is no longer the cheapest two-to-three-hour babysitter and kids can wait for DVD. Mendelson brings up some good points for this.
  3. 2 out of 3 looked like garbage and got garbage reception and mother! was too obscure to work in the first place (sorry Han). Split, Get Out, A:C, and especially IT did gangbusters this year.
  4. It doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things since both (even if the latter don't want to admit it) will see it. DCCU and MCU keep raking in the big bucks.
  5. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/justice_league/geoff-johns-wanted-man-of-steel-to-have-a-lighter-tone-and-hired-joss-whedon-to-work-on-justice-league-a154169 "Geoff Johns and Diane were reading scripts, and Geoff Johns, to his credit, was concerned that there was not enough lightness or humor, given who the character is," one insider tells the site in regards to Man of Steel's production process and the way Johns was shut out. "Geoff definitely raised that point, but that current administration didn’t care that much about what Geoff Johns thought."That was then and this is now, though, and with Johns taking an active role in Justice League after the backlash aimed at Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, he and fellow DC Films boss Jon Berg decided that they needed to revamp parts of the movie. They wanted someone other than Zack Snyder to rewrite parts and add some new scenes and that was ultimately Joss Whedon. They were meeting with The Avengers helmer about Batgirl and soon realised he was the right man to steer Justice League in the direction they wanted. "Everyone was excited about Joss being a part of DC, and we thought he’d be great to write the [Justice League] scenes, the additional-photography scenes that we wanted to get." When a family tragedy led to Snyder's departure, he would take over as a director too and we're now all waiting to find out how Justice League turned out this November.
  6. No but there would've been a boost.
  7. The difference is Suicide Squad was dumb fun this will likely be a pile of garbage.
  8. I agree and it disgusts me to say this but this has some (not a lot) box office potential especially if it's a crossover. I can see this being WAG's top 2018 film.
  9. TTG is CN's Spongebob. Kids eat that shit up. However to prevent this from being another Ninjago/Emoji, I have a feeling it'll be a crossover between the old and new to draw interest among older audiences and perhaps bring non TV writers too.
  10. Predictions: Black Panther: $105M/$325M New Mutants: $80M/$230M Infinity War: $210M/$450M Deadpool 2: $125M/$290M Incredibles 2: $130M/$425M Ant Man 2: $75M/$200M Teen Titans Go!: $25M/$85M Venom: $45M/$120M Dark Phoenix: $55M/$130M Aquaman: $100M/$340M Animated Spider-Man: $25M/$130M

  12. That's what I'm guessing. However the good news for WAG is that Smallfoot might be cheaper at a $50M-$60M budget.
