  1. You can't just force people to see a movie they have no interest in. The family went to the theater to see Venom. No Venom = no movie. If they were just going to see a movie (any) they would've looked to other options. There's always a most-deserving movie out. Why even bother going to the theater when you can buy a more deserving classic movie on BR? (Not even going to mention Netflix or illegal downloads). In my experience people don't go out to see any movie anymore. Something catches their attention and they plan on watching it sometime (more and more people go out on OW than before, hence the front loaded nature of this decade blockbusters and other people just wait until the theater isn't as crowded) but it's because they are interested. If I like a trailer for a movie that might look good, I just wait and watch it at home (for example JW2, The Meg) or just forget about it if doesn't hold my attention that long (The Boss Baby, Ninjago, Trolls) Which is why (IMO) mid-budget hits are becoming more rare and must-see event blockbusters get bigger each year.
  2. Oh God! Here they come with all the "trailer views are meaningless" posts. Despite being proved wrong every time.
  3. Half of SW main saga is completely despised by everyone, even fans. It didn't exactly help that of the last 5 released, 4 of them were hated. Solo was just a bomb waiting to happen. It had meh marketing, but let's not pretend that's the main reason it bombed the way it did. Marvel has been on a roll, with each movie being universally praised by fans and well-liked by general audiences since Age Of Ultron (which had underwhelming reception but still positive). With only The Dark World having mixed reception since The Avengers broke out (and most of the misfires in Phase 1) It can still be real bad and/or flop real hard but it's not a good comparison.
  4. I'm lowering my prediction from 580m to 450m DOM because the trailer wasn't out of this world. 1b WW is still happening, though.
  5. I know BvS is trash and everything, but at least Snyder had a vision. I think it's really sad how JL destroyed everything he had planned and at the same time couldn't please anyone that hated his vision. It was a complete lose-lose situation that WB led themselves into, dragging both Snyder and Whedon with them.
  6. I think WW will end up making WB lose more money that it would have if it bombed. Gal Gadot's WW is so universally loved that they literally can't reboot the whole universe, thus losing billions of revenue that a well-received DCU would earn. So they just gotta stand there watching her conquer the world while their other properties stay in development hell.
  7. Just saw this and don't understand the reception. It's a great movie, with good execution and a really interesting concept. Of course, it had potential for something better but that doesn't make it a bad movie. I think that was its biggest sin, being released after so many genre-changing movies but it's not its fault that horror is on a renaissance.
  8. Dave is not letting this thing go, which is interesting because if he's so vocal about it, he must have some support from his fellow castmates (which seems like it after that letter). So it's definitely going to be interesting how Disney handles this PR nightmare while also battling against a whole cast. Keeping in mind that this is not some Ant-Man or Dr. Strange and there are several A-listers in this that will take part of A4 press tour. They should've gone the Lasseter way but oh well, still think there's a whole bunch of BTS stuff that we'll probably never find out.
  9. One of the rules should be getting at least another nomination. That way you'd see studios campaign hard for the tech categories (and maybe even have them in mind when greenlighting them, aka better budget)
  10. Y'all acting like FS isn't eligible for most categories or like the franchise hasn't been nominated already. The Oscars have been a joke for years and the ratings freefall keep proving it. But MCU is killing cinema amirite? (I've never seen a FS movie but y'all trying to discredit every movie that's somewhat a hit or has over $20m budget is not cute)
  11. This will backfire SO bad if they don't nominate BP in both. And you know, they could've stayed relevant had they not been so snobby. Why not push for Zootopia or Inside Out, both of which are universally acclaimed, for BP? How many comedies have been contenders in the last decade? Get Out, Dunkirk and Logan did well for blockbusters, La La Land and Fury Road too. But there are some hits that are indeed better than the bland shit they choose to nominate each year. If they're gonna have them indie choices, they gotta settle for the small indie crowd. Also, fuck that they're not TV all the categories. If people wanted to to watch Jimmy Kimmel they would watch his show, not the Oscars.
  12. Yes, let's use a huge breakout (3rd biggest DOM at that) to say there's not a pattern. This is so smart. This also has never been used to mock another huge hits (It, T:R), right?
  13. I was sure this would be great and breakout. A shame tbh because that trailer was amazing.
  14. Yeah. The thing about "offensive" jokes is that you have to know your audience. You're not going to tell pedo jokes to someone who was molested. Is it ok for a director of 2 +300m blockbusters? Of course not. But back then, it perfectly fit his small niche audience. His only fault is not cleaning everything from before he directed GOTG. I do agree there's something going on behind the scenes. It's not like Roseanne who had a huge track record of being racist and everyone was kinda hoping she would mess it up.
  15. Disney current run (and specially MCU) has made people think every sequel increases. Fallout is increasing (though not a lot) thanks to great reviews (and RN/GO reception). That's a win itself. The fact that the franchise is not collapsing is good enough (though not the best case scenario)
  16. I've seen you post this kind of things as if having The Avengers on your mega-franchise (the highest-grossing of them all) isn't an achievement itself. I don't see any other franchise promoting their solo movies off their last team-up grossing 2b, I wonder why...
  17. Unless something else is coming or it is indeed a political move, firing him is a bit overboard considering he apologized way before doing GOTG. We need to wait and see how it plays out. Disney handled Lasseter and Roseanne really good (in different ways ofc)
  18. FX is a prestige network, Pose got renewed because of its critical acclaim and Ryan Murphy clout. It bombed with ratings, just like Versace bombed and got massive nominations. Not because there's a lot of people watching, but there seems to be a lot of people complaining for the sake of doing it https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/fantastic-woman-director-weighs-scarlett-johansson-transgender-casting-controversy-1125245 This is damaging and all these people complaining don't actually care about the well-being of the trans community, they just need a reason to complain so they can join the outrage bandwagon.
  19. You're misunderstanding the issue here. Shutting down this movie won't make Hollywood suddenly open for trans actors. All this fake outrage won't convince the studios to put trans actors as leads in their movies. If all these people faking the outrage actually supported trans actresses, Laverne Cox and Caitlyn Jenner wouldn't have bombed with their shows and doors would've actually opened, because CEOs are actually capable of swallowing their bigotry if there's a lot of money involved. Now we don't have Scarjo or a trans actor playing this role, and there's another missed opportunity for people to see a positive portrayal of a trans person, with studios likely avoiding this topic out of fear of backlash. That's why this is a bad thing and sets back activism for years.
  20. They are if they attack for the sake of attacking and claiming a fake outrage. None (99%, I know some do) of these people go out to actually support trans actor or trans people in general. They mostly jump on the hate bandwagon, even if it ends up harming the LGBT community representation. Does anyone really think this is a good thing for trans actor and they'll suddenly start getting roles? And not you know, become a touchy subject and get ignored for another decade. And yes, these kind of people are toxic and one of the reasons why the majority of the population doesn't take these issues seriously.
  21. Great. SJWs "won" so this film won't move forward and still no trans actor will get a job. They must be so proud.
  22. I love how Marvel is getting better at side characters. This, BP, Ragnarok and SMH did a great job at that, plus GOTGV2 & IW being ensemble movies. This was good. No "holy shit" moment, but it was hard after IW. Everything seems to work. I'm just mad at the lack of Pfeiffer and the fact that they were just chilling while the world was being attacked by Thanos. I know they HAD to put Scott in the quantum real (because A4 plot) but they should've found a cleaner way.
