  1. I'm thinking this is where the sequel is headed. Maybe a secondary villain in the first act with the Supreme Intelligence as the main villain. They still need to fill a lot of gaps between this and GOTG1. (Also I saw a lot of interesting stuff about Deathbird/Shi'ar empire, maybe for the third one, Secret Invasion would be better as an Avengers movie but they can always pull a Civil War)
  2. How would that be different from decades of "black films don't do well overseas"? Or "female SH do bad because Catwoman/Elektra"? (Hell, everyone is still on the female movies might not do well OS because THG/WW ratio wasn't as good as expected, which is why people were extra cautious with CM OS predictions) Times change and so do analysis.
  3. It doesn't hold as well on rewatch. I thought it was an 8 and now kind of just under a 7. I do see now how exposition heavy and some pacing issues. Also is it me or does editing feels a bit off? Like they were trying to insert as many charismatic shots as possible? I don't wanna say reactionary because I might be looking too much into it. The cast and VFX are still great and the fights are still underwhelming. I'd say JLaw looks more like a secondary villain and not a main one (similar to Baron Mordo in DS).
  4. Your reasoning implies that Phase 1 movies were bad, which if you wanna talk about "objectively" it isn't true. Since they were well received commercially and critically, there's nothing that indicates that they're widely perceived as "bad" (Just because I hate IM2 it doesn't mean that it's "objectively" bad, just that I think that it's trash). Even Thor 2 (Phase 2) which has Marvel's worst reception is still on the mixed-positive range and increased nicely from Thor1 (and I'm not seeing the consensus being "this is the worst marvel movie ever" or is it?) Also, I was talking about that there's literally 0 reason in the actual movie for the whole "CM is anti-men" controversy in some circles. The most outrageous "feminist SJW" thing is that montage which is a standard empowerment scene which just happens to feature a woman (in the same way that we saw Captain America's "I can do this all day") So it looks that you're arguing for the sake of it, which seems common around this movie for some reason (but SH movies come with a lot of unnecessary arguing, don't they?)
  5. $150m with 2.3x legs as the worst case scenario is still pretty amazing (and far above what anyone could've predicted before BP broke out last year)
  6. Funny that after all the crying and whining there's nothing preachy or on the nose about feminism in the movie. The only thing that I could think it might turn some men off is when she unleashes her powers and there's a "little girl standing up montage" ("I can do this all day" vibes) and that's a HUGE reach. It's a sweet "little girls will feel so good about this" moment, I can't really imagine what kind of person would get honestly upset about that.
  7. This was wonderful. I was a little worried about the pacing in the first act but that was my favorite part. I got a little bored with the non stop action in the third act, it could've been better but it wasn't BP/WW bad at least. The whole cast was great. I loved Maria/Monica/Minn-Erva. Wish JLaw had a bigger role but he was a nonfactor villain because there isnt really any kind of confrontation until the very end. And even then it's still just kinda there. I was not expecting the tesseract, Mar-Vell or the skrulls being good. I thought it'd be a both sides are evil situation but maybe that's coming next. So I would rank it just below IM1, on par with The First Avenger when it comes to origin solo movies. Also below Ragnarok and The Winter Soldier when it comes to solo movies. I absolutely love the team movies (3 Avengers, 2 Guardians and Civil War) so no competition there.
  8. So when they don't work, like Solo, the media says it's a failure. I think it was a pretty good movie. It didn't resonate as much as we'd hoped it would, but the press writes it up in a more negative way than I would. These are very high-profile movies. If Aladdin, which I happen to think is a terrific film, doesn't work somehow, that's big news and much bigger news than if a movie somewhere else, like The Kid Who Would Be King [at Fox,] doesn't work. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/alan-horn-talks-disney-fox-merger-streaming-pixar-post-john-lasseter-1187054 Are they writing this off already? Lmao.
  9. How many Disney princesses are lesbians? Is it 10%? Or are you basically saying that we need more lesbian princesses to represent better the world we live in and fill that 10% quota you speak of? So you basically agreed with that poster and actually asked for more lesbian princesses? - I couldn't care less about Elsa being gay or not, it'd be nice at most for me, but I'm sure it'll mean a lot for a lot of people so I at least hope they don't give her a random male love interest.
  10. Saw this and loved it. Why is it bombing? I really liked the first one and would say I liked this even more. The only reason I can think is that horror is so good right now that this kind of movie being just enjoyable pales in comparison (I would say that the Nun also suffered from this, it was a meh movie treated as the worst horror movie ever)
  11. Whoa I thought that tracking was good. Maybe people have crazy expectations? Wouldn't 170m DOM / 450M WW be good for this?
  12. You probably think this is just really funny but there are some people that actually think like that.
  13. Maybe I havent been paying enough attention but hasn't there been 0 controversy about Gunn directing this? Like literally 0? Just shows how all of it was just fake outrage and Disney really messed up a potential billion dollar grossing movie lmao.
  14. BR over ASIB DOM is definitely one I didn't see coming
  15. This has a chance to go over Ragnarok, Venom, GOTGv2 and even BvS. What. The. Fuck.
  16. If it's a "time" issue, why not do a medley? Not getting Gaga, Kendrick, Hudson and Blunt on stage at the same time is such a wasted opportunity.
  17. I do wonder, what if they had switched TF actresses categories and pushed Stone and Weisz for lead and Colman for supporting. People would still bitch about category fraud, but Colman would have it locked and Stone and Weisz would probably still had been nominated given their previous winner status (+ obviously great performance) Now Colman will lose and the girls will split votes so they're not even in the running.
  18. This, to be honest. I've seen that random "You" series all over social media and billboards plastered all over my city. I guess it must be unappealing since it doesn't seem to have much attention.
  19. If they had ignored that, Twitter would have complained about erasure and sanitization or whatever they felt like it.
  20. Exactly. I would imagine that the Marvel crew handled most of that stuff in Ragnarok and most of the movies directed by indie directors that have no clue about a +$150m movie. The fact that she thought it was about her being a female is the only sexist thing about it. Feige did talk about how it was so unusual that Coogler brought his whole crew for Black Panther. And God knows Marvel should've helped him more with the fight scenes.
