I'm enjoying my Three Stooges-esque run in the top 4. There's no reason the third worse average should be so successful , yet here I am. This is my peak.

That trailer was missing a slowed down cover of a Linkin Park or Evanescence song.

My parents struggled with money as a child, so watching movies at the expensive theater was a rare trip. The only time we saw movies opening weekend was if they were the biggest, most anticipated movies of the year. I remember watching only, in the "expensive theater": -Phantom Menace -Attack of the Clones -Finding Nemo -Spiderman -Spiderman 2 -The Incredibles -LotR: Two Towers -The Return of the King -Pirates: Dead Man's Chest -Revenge of the Sith It felt special watching a big blockbuster. Though, for some reason, we watched Ang Lee's Hulk opening weekend. Yeah, my parents weren't happy after that ended. Sadly, I never got to see the first two Harry Potter's in theaters. That was a heartbreak for a book-obsessed child.

The Incredibles 2 (2018)
GambitPool replied to baumer's topic in Review That Movie! (Spoilers Allowed)
Just got out of this. I really enjoyed it, but it is missing some of the magic that made the first film, well, incredible (pun intended). Jack-Jack steals the show, obviously. The family dynamic continues to distinguish it from other superhero films (Fantastic Four take notes). The opening action scene was everything I wanted since the 1st film ended. Placing Mr. Incredible in the family caretaker role was a great idea as it creates development for him, but even his development pales in comparison to the first film. Unfortunately, the rest don't get the development they needed. Elastic Girl/Woman is the focus of main plot, like Mr. Incredible was, yet doesn't change much throughout the film. Violet retreads her development from the 1st movie, though I like when she takes the inquisitive, leader role. Dash is wasted aside from comedic scenes. The villain is lackluster compared to Syndrome. God, Syndrome was such a great villain because he was a meta statement on lame super villains and sidekicks. His relationship with Mr. Incredible helped to establish the hatred he has for supers in general. The villain here feels too formulaic without the meta commentary. There's never a moment where the villain posed a threat or there plan was gonna work. Their plan didn't even make sense if you think about it. And yes, they do have a monologue scene. In fact, the conflict in the story is almost non-existent. There's a lot of interesting ideas in the 1st act without pay-off later on. What I loved from the 1st was the sense of progression and discovery with their power, particularly from the kids. There's no scene where Dash realizes he can run on water or when Violet understands the power of her force fields. Yeah Jack-Jack more than makes up for it with his random, spontaneous power-set, but it doesn't have the sense of wonder and triumph from the kids before. As the film winded down, I had the feeling that it hadn't kicked it into 3rd gear. The final action set piece felt like a 2nd act scene you'd find in a Marvel film. When the scene ended, I thought, "That was it?" The ending pales in comparison to the 1st as well. Honestly, as cliched as big world ending threats go, that would've been better than the minimal threat the villain posed. It's just needed something more. That's like my main thought after watching it. I'm trying not to rag on it because I still really enjoyed it and smiled and laughed throughout the movie, but it doesn't hit the height of the first film. Still recommend it. 7.5/10. My theater dropped Book Club and kept Action Point. They'll get what they deserve.
