  1. Having so much success and giant pile of money with your art with shock completely removed from it can change your attitude about using shock in your humor. Habit and acting a way do have a way to change the brain according to many: https://www.cell.com/neuron/pdf/S0896-6273(15)01134-4.pdf Specially with that crazy high level of reward he got from them. What does the tweet reflect about the person: Person that like to make grass/dark humors and does it in public. Is it laughable to think he does not do it now ? Or what are you suggesting dark humor is supposed to reflect about someone ?
  2. Was it not after the second weekend -61.6% drop the peak moments of the talks about not making 200m dbo ?
  3. They call it harvesting now, not hunting. Some are getting so crazy that it would not surprise me.
  4. In the scenario where he would have not wanted to participate I am really not sure if being the only one not signing would have been less courageouss than signing it. There is so much time between now and when a hard decision need to be taken (in term of news cycle), that both scenario are still well possible imo.
  5. Well there will be a use, calm down and excite less the people that want to weaponize social media outrage mob mentality by giving them less power. Has for what would Disney would look, why should anyone care about that ?
  6. Well caring about box office is really strange and amazing that people (without any link with the movies) care so much about it. It is not like any of this (talking about box office) is not just a giant waste of time for all of us doing it.
  7. They seem to be doing that very well since MI-3 debacle no ? They are probably in reality much cheaper the last 3 than the third one released in 2006, unadjusted. They are sold so much if not completely on spectacle and nice location/production, that they will need to up it a little bit.
  8. Also 1 Skyfall Sony $1,108.6 $304.4 27.5% $804.2 72.5% 2012 2 Spectre Sony $880.7 $200.1 22.7% $680.6 77.3% 2015 21% drop.
  9. Were they counting Marvel merchandise as non-Disney ? Because that impressive.
  10. And HBO has 142m subscriber around the world..... in 2013, Tv from cable subscription alone was a 100 billion in revenues in the United states, it is not like box office was close to TV since TV became popular. Netflix is much more competition to traditional TV (and still a very small player there) than box office normally, every innovation post the 50s since television destroyed cinema attendance didn't seem to have much effect on cinema attendance, hard to even see when did VHS or dvd became popular looking at this:
  11. "Record" like those will always be a bit fuzzy, Sam Jackson was in 3 movie released in 2017 in China, Hitman Bodyguard, Kong, xXx. Morgan Freeman in 2016: Ben Hur, Now you see me 2, London Has Fallen. For actor taking a lot of supporting actor gig in franchise, we could probably come with a small list.
  12. Never heard of Hill loosing or gaining weight for a role before, isn't not just real life weight gain/loss without any shenanigans ?
  13. You know very well it is not just about that, see how many time a movie net budget is mentioned on this forum (something that has nothing to do with the box office). Do you have good data that achieve to take into account some streaming spending correctly (like Amazon Prime membership), because the data could be inflated but apparently US home videos revenues are soon to get back to the biggest unadjusted ever and are bigger unadjusted than when he started Transporter in 2002: https://www.statista.com/statistics/188944/us-consumer-spendings-on-home-entertainment-since-1999/ I suspect a major SVOD inflation here to make the numbers look better than they are (and how can they divide revenues that are for tv product vs movie product on those)
  14. There is a world of gray between people finding a movie boring and thinking people are wrong for loving them.
  15. AMC Theatres are not franchises. They are all owned by a single corporate entity American Multi-Cinema, Inc. http://investor.amctheatres.com/investor-faqs Does AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc. franchise its theatres? Presently, AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc. does not offer franchise opportunities for its theatres. So I imagine it just need to work as a whole ? But the concession sales going to them like mentioned could still make it work
  16. And easy to see it fail like it did with RIPD and I imagine the long list of movies that try to copy it success (apparently the make it like the Men in Black/but who are the men in black in that story was a common studio note for a while)
  17. They certainly do (Imagine being so free speech to be angry about Disney but not respecting those actor free speech to say nothing), with Disney getting close to 50% of the box office now that it acquired Fox, they will have a lot of control, including the voice of people wanting to make a lot of money in that industry.
  18. Depend of the price points. My guess would be that Sony did a bit like they did for Inferno after Angels&Demon loss them money. Angel&Demon had a 160m marketing budget and a net production cost + participation bonus at break even point above 255m, for Inferno it went down to 75-80m. Men in Black 3 had a crazy net production budget + participation bonus at break even point of 339m, with Tom Rothman in charge I would not be surprised if he went for 0 first dollar gross and a net budget of 120m for an almost 65% cheaper project . Not really compatible with what Smith would be asking (if it look like anything he wanted for Independence day)
  19. Sometime deadline will tell them: https://variety.com/2017/film/news/box-office-dunkirk-international-1202510518/ Imax screens alone are responsible for $12.3 million of “Dunkirk’s” global box office this weekend from 710 screens in 68 markets. The worldwide Imax cume for the movie now stands at $40.1 million. For 3D domestic it is easy to find: https://www.mpaa.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/MPAA-Theatrical-Market-Statistics-2016_Final.pdf Domestic market 3D is around 15% of the box office after 2013. 3d/PLF screen by market in 2016: domestic: 16.745/945 Europe: 18.278/295 Asia: 47k/859 Latin America: 5.2k/231 Total: 87,176 / 2,330 There is around 164k screen worldwide, a bit more than half support 3D, 1.5% are PLF
  20. No comparable movie doing 15m during it's opening weekend, nothing is weekend #2, there is only the Meg on is way and that could be a non factor in some market. True that a good window for it.
  21. Gravity picture yes and they will release it in China themselve I think, Flagship Hong-Kong based is also participating in the financing. http://chinafilminsider.com/tag/gravity-pictures/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flagship_Entertainment That, Statham and the Binbing's casting do show an obvious effort for an intl business and not counting on domestic. It could obviously do 100m-150m Rampage like there, I would imagine. Lorenzo di Bonaventura production with the Transformer franchise have probably a good sensibility/awareness for the intl markets.
  22. Lower the competition almost always the better. But I feel it is more Skyscraper and Equalizer than got hurt by Mission Impossible buzz (they lifted the embargo the first day or just before Skyscraper went to theater I think) than the other way around and could be why Skyscraper was so much Johnson fan driven and Equalizer 2 fan of the first/Denzel fan driven, with bad legs after the first couple of really core fan driven days.
  23. I thought they already did (do not have any 3d screen).... Ah, they did in the past: Is 3D streaming available from Netflix? We no longer offer 3D streaming. In 2012, when we launched 3D streaming, we were excited and moved by the efforts of our industry partners who made great 3D technology and began to make movies and shows in 3D. Despite that early enthusiasm, 3D viewing at home failed to captivate consumers. In recent years, many major TV manufacturers have announced that they will phase out 3D TV production. Many studios have also announced their move away from 3D production. Due to these factors, we no longer offer 3D streaming. So I imagine they could yes, but there is about no one watching 3d movies at home. Maybe some special IMAX 3D release day and date with streaming.
  24. Statham is more a big home video star than a box office one usually (and is projects tend to be built in consequence). Can see that happening a 150-235 box office do look possible, but so is making 140m in China alone and 290m WW.
