  1. Correct, that the kind of movie that feel global 35/65 ratio without needing a big China performance. Rampage opened around 70m intl minus China (not including France, Japan, Germany, Poland, Hong Kong), Tomb Raider was around 43m if I remember correctly. Even using worst case scenario, a terrible 2x multi for the first markets release, adding those 5 major market should easily put it above 165m. I imagine 165m + 145m china + 90m putting above 400m is easily achievable, could get to 420-425.
  2. Except for those stars wars and SH movies that sell a ridiculous amount of ticket before anyone even seen the movie or have any clue if it is any good, that get really close to hit by default. That said if that rumored price tag is has low has those rumored 70-75m, it is really close to that outside of those.
  3. I think the day count clearly show that she became pregnant before they knew about the monster invasion, human pregnancy is about 40 weeks/280 days. They lost Beau occurred around day 86 and the rest of the movies occur around day 275/276, if I remember correctly. For the movies, I feel a nice high concept that do not land to something, way too many jump scare (maybe it work with a large crowd too, but I watched it yesterday), I preferred It come at night. Still the world building, the characters, the execution make it a very engaging and fun watch for the most part of it's running time, acting is solid all around. The rules were hard to make so I went completely with it without problems, I did not feel much issues while watching but I was happy they waited to the end to show that guns work really well against them and for them, you have the trade off to attract many of them while using them.
  4. Maybe those avengers have higher demand regarding exhibition ? Civil war had 4,226 vs 4,347 for Guardian 2 with a very similar date just one year apart. One other reason could be the number of drive through open for those summer release vs next weekend in the north and Canada I imagine many are still close ? Last Jedi got 4,232, Force Awaken 4,134
  5. For which people ?, who saw the movie and didn't find it funny that was not believed by who ? I don't think I read even one reference that the critics are biased because it got rotten reviews.
  6. Yes it is easy to read that, specially with the Internet screaming they did, misquoting them an even misquoting old statement from before the movies. But that is quite different, specially when they went out of their way with public statement denying that they are doing that. We tend to use rank from time to time, but only absolute numbers matter and 1 million is the same than a 37 million movie studio release like Game Night and 66% of Blockers, and that is for a small 15m acquisition independent release from STX, I am not sure why they would be embarrassed from that: http://variety.com/2018/digital/news/ready-player-one-tops-studios-tv-ad-spending-1202712240/ Game Night tv spending before release: Est. Lifetime TV Spend: $21M I feel pretty Est. Lifetime TV Spend: $3.73M Much bigger production budget, not in the same category way larger WB P&A budget, 82% rotten tomatoes, same Thursday night numbers. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/studio/chart/?yr=&view=company&view2=allmovies&studio=stx.htm&sort=opengross&order=DESC&p=.htm Specially considering that it has an chance to be there second best opening in history if it beat Valerian 17m.
  7. Not a lot of precedent of a third weekend movie with such a similar audience: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/?yr=2018&wknd=07&p=.htm During black panther OW: Maze Runner: -58% (Week 4, lost 1000 theater) For Civil war: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/?view=main&yr=2016&wknd=19&sort=change&order=ASC&p=.htm BvS: -73% (lost 737 theater) week 7 Keanu: -65%, week 2 Huntsman: -59%, week 3 During Ultron: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/?view=main&yr=2015&wknd=18&sort=change&order=ASC&p=.htm Fast 7: -63% Kingmans: -65% Get Hard: -68.4%
  8. All those musicals comedy about trying to balance life with works, those western about reverse mortgage, team of priest trying to find a colleague in anti-Christian Japan, Space station disaster movie, very similar to 19th century slavery, life of a young Black gay and Tarantino 70s movie industry movie.
  9. True that it is a bit of a strange multiplier, last weekend it did 3.65 time it's true friday I think (33.35 for a 9.14 friday) Why would it get to a 3.2 now, a 18, 18.5 make more sense ? if it really reach 5m friday. Last weekend had strong weekend days for is Friday, not sure why it would change this weekend, there is no competition against it opening at all.
  10. Those 2 weekend numbers are quite quite high, considering the marketing spent on them: http://variety.com/2018/digital/news/rampage-tops-studios-tv-ad-spending-1202754657/ ST2: Est. Lifetime TV Spend: $2.06M IFP: Est. Lifetime TV Spend: $3.73M That is has low as it can get.
  11. Yes but that was not spent on the movie, 200m of campaign spent to push different product did put Angry Bird logos to help the product and the movie at the same time. I do not know if they sticked to the plan's but the leaked Sony plan was a very normal 130m worldwide P&A. Little bit of what was planned/wanted on the first by Sony marketing/budgeting team back in 2014. From Sony point of view they were a distributor only, like if Rovio paid 100% of the production (Exact share was not disclosed, but Rovio will invest in the film over €100 million, which would make it the largest budget in the film industry in Finland) Sony break even point was : 46 dbo, 76.7 ibo, 122.7 WW, that was just to cover their 133m releasing cost and the residuals+talent participation bonus they had to pay. They were paying themselve almost completely before giving the first cent to Rovio, that is not too uncommon for distributor to be the safest investor, see Blade Runner 2049. The marketing target was 150 dbo / 250 ibo, 400m WW for a 30m profits for Sony (with 164m going to the co-financier). They had no % on the movie merchandise. It came short of that: Total Lifetime Grosses Domestic: $107,509,366 30.5% + Foreign: $244,824,563 69.5% = Worldwide: $352,333,929 Using a mix of the 110m dbo revenue projection + international revenues projection with a 250 foreign box office must have done around 151m in domestic revenues and 206m in International revenues for 340-360m + merchandise revenues type of business. Just fund out how netflix paid for an animated movie between 2017 and 2021 while reading about Angry Bird.
  12. Today sales, Avengers selling 3.15 time Deadpool new into the selling place is quite impressive. Super Troopers still looking quite good here Avengers 9095 Super Tr 7598 I Feel P 4633 A Quiet 3518 Deadpool 2880 Rampage 2093 Ready Pl 1219 Blockers 1114 Traffik 1091 Black Pa 889 Bharat A 716 Isle of 586 Blumhous 584 Chappaqu 366 I Can On 277 Tyler Pe 255 Beirut 231 The Mira 173 Sherlock 156 A Wrinkl 92 Love, Si 83 Sgt. 13. Wasn't the story she asked for a raise after comparing to them, but not to get as much because she consider she is north worth as much as those legends ? According to Variety the actress, who became a hot property thanks to her Emmy-winning show Inside Amy Schumer, managed to get a 'significant' increase in her fee, despite the differences in their respective agreements. “I believe women deserve equal pay,” she said on Instagram. “However I don’t believe I deserve equal pay to Chris and Dave. They are legends and [two] of the greatest comics of all time.”, Amy Schumer
  14. Not sure people fully understand how a sitcom writing room work and of the hundreds of comics that stole jokes in their career if she did (and not one of the writers, many of the stolen jokes come from show that literally shared the same writers working on them, sometime under pressure they recycle their own material) the question fully stands.
  15. Yep and a box office giant success, I am talking about Lord Deep, why does he care even just the smallest bit about Amy Schumer if he does not like her comedy, I imagine like everyone there is hundreds/thousands of comics he do not find funny, why talk about her ?
  16. The fact they did put ST2 in Canada, could indicate that yes it could have been popular in the north of the US and Canada mostly. North Dakota and Vermont seem to have been the state were it was the most popular: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?geo=US&q=%2Fm%2F04hmvx Quite strong in Canada: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=%2Fm%2F04hmvx,%2Fm%2F02prqng With Saskatchewan (just above North Dakota) leading the way.
  17. To add to this, different ideology deliver very different extremist result. How bad having an extreme view of an idea is usually bad if the idea is kind of bad, making just more obvious when push to an extreme. An extremist Jashinist will push the concept of non killing so far that he will sweep surface before sitting to not kill acarines and have a filter in front of is mouth when sleeping to not eat bugs. That is extreme and would probably bad in some ways if everyone was like that, but they do not hurt anyone.
  18. Wasn't that completely made up (that tactic you describe above), no one ever said that. The campaign was people that make a big deal out of it and talk about it more than one time, not people that criticize.
  19. Well Mamma Mia is the most profitable movie in Universal history (at least it was before their 2015 year), it was a special home video phenomenon, not sure for baffling. Ocean 8, that quite optimistic.
