  1. Not for them, the 2 Grown ups film franchise made them about the same money than the 3 Bond movie made in the last 12 year's.
  2. Must be quite the task counting GWTW all time admissions. UK apparently 35 million admissions Australia around 38M admissions (seem quite high....) France around 16.7 million admissions Netherlands: 3.3m Spain: 1M Domestic: about what 160M admissions ? (some estimate goes over 200 million but are probably inflated the first run, underestimating the roadshow ticket price) That 254M ticket from 6 markets (7 countries), we have some notion for how many more markets ? Do you have a breakdown by countries for GWTW ?
  3. And sprinkle a little bit of accounting fraud accusation ?
  4. Because people liked those, this is a bit similar to the person cannot be racist, the person has a black friend type of argument. The nature, intensity of the negative reaction can still differ.
  5. I do not imagine that it is quite impossible with today technology, but it is not an Elon Musk idea or a particularly strange one. I guess one more possible idea is that they would solar sails type of craft rotated once they reach mars so their sails is used to mirror and kept in place instead of going somewhere , like proposed by the Russians scientific: https://arxiv.org/ftp/arxiv/papers/1709/1709.05893.pdf That something that was tested on the night side of the earth in 1993, calculated and hypothesized, modeled, I am not sure I get the crazy uncle reference.
  6. That something nasa funded study suggested for decade https://www.newscientist.com/article/dn10573-space-mirrors-could-create-earth-like-haven-on-mars/ https://www.nextbigfuture.com/2019/08/terraforming-mars-in-50-years-with-large-orbital-mirrors-bacteria-and-factories.html Musk is a genius and a scientific, now sure who Doherty is and how is brain even start to calculate the possibility of something like this (I know mine does not know) https://science.howstuffworks.com/terraforming2.htm Here are three terraforming methods that have been proposed: Large orbital mirrors that will reflect sunlight and heat the Mars surface. Greenhouse gas-producing factories to trap solar radiation. Smashing ammonia-heavy asteroids into the planet to raise the greenhouse gas level. It is a very common thought out there, specially that giant mirror to propulsate craft (a bit like a solar sail) will have been developed for other reason by then. Can you explain what is dumb with that ?
  7. Vietnam war still had conscription going on (the franchise isn't quite coherence on that regard too, depending on the movie he enlisted or got drafted), I think it is quite the relevant change since then, veteran program, knowledge measure also changed quite a lot since. In percentage of people involved: In the nature of the people serving in combat has well. The part about modern american soldier being used as cannon fodder seem quite unfounded, statistically people in the military died quite less than the general american population even adjusted for age, vast majority of the death during the Irak-Afghanistan war among soldier were travel accident, not combat. American Soldier now a day come family that have an median income higher than the average American: http://www.ifn.se/wfiles/wp/wp965.pdf Table 2 shows that median family income was $68,000 for men and $71,000 for women who joined the military. These figures are higher than the median family income of civilians which was around $61,000. The average family income of those who joined was around 4 percent higher than that of civilians
  8. That a way to call paying billions every year for it to a fully consenting party, what will you call Disney using Pixar, LucasArt, Fox, etc... content ?
  9. With the participation bonus will see how close you end up being. As of june 2018, without marketing they had spend around 880m USD on them.
  10. Source ?, from what I read all the allegation are from the parks and resort divisions, it is reported has such; after MarketWatch reported that a former employee in the revenue-operations department told the SEC the entertainment giant had overstated sales at the parks-and-resorts segment to the tune of billions of dollars over several years. And seem to be understood has such by everyone commented on it I have read.
  11. Maybe, but marketing/product placement now is quite the online platform/video game affair (https://www.vox.com/2019/2/20/18232433/digital-advertising-facebook-google-growth-tv-print-emarketer-2019) I really do not know what a King Shark is, but would it have issues being marketed were it seem to really matter now a day, online ?
  12. 6 billion do sound like a lot to me if they are not laundering money, that a lot of tax to pay on false revenues for something that they would have had to keep up for a very long time (Park and Resort revenues didn't dip, https://www.statista.com/statistics/193221/revenue-of-walt-disneys-parks-and-resorts-since-2008/), for something that sound like a very short time fraud in term of sustainability, considering the claim are more than doubling the revenues..... A that could help make up for it: Kuba has made two additional whistleblower filings since leaving the firm, including one this past June. The most recent tip alleges some Disney employees reclassified guest revenue from high-sales-tax items such as hotel rooms to lower-taxed items such as food and beverages with the purpose of significantly reducing sales tax liabilities in Florida, California and Hawaii. MarketWatch has reviewed the three filings and supporting documentation that was sent to the SEC. That sound way more likely.
  13. The poster was talking about english sub for English speaking movies.
  14. Do you mean, dump because they do not do some careful type of roll-out (does the material go with that), because 2,300 is a lot for FSL. 15. Not sure about all those comp Specially Glass being a sequel in a very popular franchise and put it in a complete different category, Elysium was a much bigger movie(125M net budget, follow up to District 9 phenomenon director, Damon, $97m WW P&A), Upside a Kevin Hart in a often proven high concept. This is a upper echelon for low/lower echelon of mid budget adventure-horror-thriller with some star power assemble but not the first tier kind, the closest could be Gyllenhaal, Ferguson, Reynolds movie Life ? That was also horror-adventure-thriller type, not ideal release date, very similar budget range.
  16. Was on the cheaper side $65M (gross probably under $55M net)
  17. We are not Americans. Race divide in the US can be spectacular : 64% whites vs 9% black voted for a republican candidate in the 2018 election, opinion on the race situation was one of the biggest predictor of voting pattern: Among those who said whites are favored in the U.S., 87% voted for Democrats. By contrast, large majorities of those who said minorities are favored (85%) or that no group is favored (69%) voted for Republican candidates. The higher the income the more likely an American is to be republican, but it is not to the same degree: Rep Dem Ind (VOL.) 18. Really not sure I get the difference, bigger screen tend to be better for subtitle in general. Do you often go see small budget 2D style english animated movie in theater for your example to be relevant ?
  19. Except for the VHS, what medium didn't had subtitle ? All my dvds, bluray, Amazon prime, netflix, there was subtitle on TV for tv show for a long time (even for live sports event)
  20. Yes those drawback tend to be pretty much already in everyone mind too.
  21. True also for when you eyes are watching on added text on the visual, both are quite the compromise,
  22. It add paint on the screen, on very beautiful photography it is a bit of a shame, also it can make reveal timing hard (like you get the news before the character or after it) and by definition for a good part of the movie your eyes are not looking at the good place, there is at least 3 good reason for dubbing movies.
