  1. Think about how Villeneuve Sicario did it and how much of an issue people had with it.
  2. Nah it is a delicate balance and that narrative help to keep it alive, it is not like we will not have marketing study/toy department/studio exec influenced affair to see in theater when we want too if that narrative do not die (and it is not like those supposed Studio did leave it alone movies will not continue to receive a tons of notes). Maybe balance it a little bit more (like say if the studio took Ad Astra from Gray hands and still get good reviews/nice festival run and you do not release the story when you know very well it would be everywhere if the movie was trashed by critics like for Suicide Squad, just to reinforce this narrative, then it is cheating), but keeping it a bit alive so the healthy tension between creators and financier do not get too one sided.
  3. Judging by the trailer/poster I guess not at all, I thought it would milk a connection way more than that. I think it could have virtually 0 effect. Trailer isn't bad (seem to have some nice on location production value displayed), but I wonder if there is any hook there and the remake/use of the song isn't the best one we saw.
  4. That a purely social/cultural construct that make up to reproduce a skin color in costume is a good or bad thing (it is not like there is anything inherently wrong with it) to do with being a moron, it had yet to have reached a large portion of the world by 2001, it is a norm that the giant Anglo-Saxon hegemonic culture is exporting, not sure it was a concept that existed in French Canada when Trudeau grew up. Has recently has 2010 before social media caught up it was still common here on mainstream television for very progressive comedian to use black face in parodies here.
  5. What popular mainstream Hollywood filmmaker would you put on the cold side of the hot-cold divide if not Nolan ? From the place love stories take in is filmography, is protagonist personality, is general humor, to is color palette/production design, how cerebral and on the nose exposition via dialogue he can be, how a death wife seem to often be a plot device, how much energy is put on the "technical" storytelling device he often develop in is new project, he seem on that more cerebral and cold side in every way. Not that he is incapable too on both aspect, Interstellar is very high on emotional moment (and use of music) for sure, but it will show a father never talking again to is son and wanting to look is grand children without finding it odd at all, Dunkirk let go of the making sure everyone get everything explained via cerebral dialogue.
  6. If 25 happen it would show little comparable for trackers that had ? Rambo being more dead on in comp.
  7. Pretty much themselves on their annual most profitable blockbuster annual round down..... Will see if they remember to put above 120m from just domestic home ent. in their annual round down, they didn't gave 70% of that to a movie like Jurassic World or half of it to Bohemian Rhapsody
  8. It is damning that the most impressive aspect of Rambo: Last Blood is that Bulgaria doubled for Mexico. Then again, given the sequel's content and delicate state of US-Mexico relations, it is no surprise they chose another location. That movie was planned to shoot in bulgaria since at least 2008, shooting was supposed to start in 2010 (https://web.archive.org/web/20080323173248/http://www.moviehole.net/news/20080320_rambo_5_to_film_in_bulgaria.html😞 http://www.nuboyanafilm.com/ Filmography List This list contains a small sample of projects over the last 10 years. UPCOMING YEAR STUDIO/DISTRIBUTOR Kane & Lynch 2010 Millenium Films Rambo V 2010 Millenium Films Like most Millenium film do: Angel Has Fallen (2019) Filming Locations Sofia, Bulgaria Hellboy (2019) Filming Locations Nu Boyana Film Studios, Sofia, Bulgaria Hunter Killer (2018) Filming Locations Bulgaria That where Stallone made all is expendable movies as well, I would imagine they offer good expertise, installation at a good price.
  9. I imagine you can still very easily flop, they will just be able to hide it if it happen (streamers tend to be quite vocal when something do not flop), that still a lot of extra months to get from customers for it to not be a flop.
  10. $90M would be quite the good food, but yes what is called big budget is often not even near half of those Avengers one now a day.
  11. I imagine it explain that price tag and that move: https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2019/09/seinfeld-netflix-streaming-deal Netflix Nabs Seinfeld Streaming Rights in $500 Million-Plus Deal
  12. Looking at the list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primetime_Emmy_Award_for_Outstanding_Casting_for_a_Drama_Series the same show get nominated many time, does not make much sense, but maybe this is a clue: location casting director Those shows can have hundreds of very small part being cast ?
  13. That a bit much, never been a movie that made a lot domestic but at least a couple of successful story: https://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=gifted.htm https://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=snowpiercer.htm Feel like this could easily go between Logan Lucky and The Nice Guys type of run.
  14. It has indeed the lower return on the odds taker by an impressive amount, looking nearly locked....
  15. It won: Sound editing Visual effect Costume Make Up Stunts Title design Score Casting Sound Mixing Editing Was it not really high quality of craftsmanship on pretty much all of those ? At least it didn't win cinematography or script or best series, I doubt anyone will have issue with any of those win's
  16. With how high those 2 went on the bidding block ($100M a year for 5 year's a 500M deal for the Office, $85M a year-425M for 5 year's for Friends) we can suspect how big those 2 streaming metrics must just be in the recent past if their value in 3-4 year's is still that high, that also put in perspective a 250M deal for an Lords of The Rings show that you own I would imagine forever at Amazon. It will be quite the shift.
  17. I would argue that was during the 2010-2012/13 3D release printing easy money era and before VHS, it depend on much you spent on it why not pretty much all popular movie get some. But do we remember Dark Knight 10 year's special release, Lords of the Rings 10 year's re-release or Titanic 10 year's/20 year's re-release ? Even if it happen (like for those movies above), chance are it will be limited release to a specific chain (possibly IMAX exclusive), for a week type of affair. If it has no remaster, no 3D conversion it is hard to make any noise (and now even with those), Avatar has the chance of 3D to never having catched up on video and considered must see once 3D experience that people would probably like to catch on if they missed it that other title didn't had too.
  18. Not that far from each other by the odds maker at the moment, a Sam Mendes WW1 movie with that cast, those producer a studio release, Deakins filming, Newman scoring, that a lot going for it.
  19. There is no perfect metric but apparently that what the most watched show Netflix volume looked like during 2018: https://www.vox.com/2018/12/21/18139817/netflix-most-popular-shows-friends-office-greys-anatomy-parks-recreation-streaming-tv 1 ) 13 reasons why is featured on that list, with almost no Netflix true original higher outside Orange is the New Black and Bojack. 2) Has you see with what is popular on Netflix, volume is really really big, their value algorithm was loving the first 2 season of shows for their ability to gain people over their length it is true, but when they will loose their 2 big product, The Office and Friends that all are high and about volume/rewatchibility, they will probably show back some sign of liking volume.
  20. No Neither Liongates tend to be cheaper than a studio but 50M domestic run isn't particularly small or that different than ASIB: https://deadline.com/2017/03/la-la-land-box-office-profit-2016-1202047487/ If this is the source to go with, WWP&A isn't not used for liongates with deadline, considering they sales almost all markets. Studio oscar bait with a good shot at a good box office tend to get quite the P&A budget that look like the middle of the road big budget affair, they do not get usually the placement product promotions type blockbuster get. For example WW P&A (putting salt and Elysium for the middle blockbustery type) Salt: 118.4M Social Network: 110.4M Captain Phillips: 98.8M Elysium: 96.6M Moneyball/American Hustle around 50M domestic theatrical marketing were the same than a Girl with a dragon Tattoo. Those deadline figure tend to be pretty much the rules of thumb for that type of movie getting that type of release I feel like, more than something highly personalized by title.
  21. To put in context, in 2019 dollar the question would be: Would you pay between $2,500 to $5,000 to gain the opportunity to pay $22.50 to rent a movie ? $3,50 was more than a pair of ticket to the movies, most household were making less than $9,200 a year in 1971. I would imagine the result were a bit over enthusiastic , I doubt that nearly 12% of household had them at those price tags, it took from 1975 to 1987 to reach a 50% penetration of VHS. % of home with a VHS: 1975: 0% 1977: 0% 1978: 0.3% 1979: 0.5% 1980: 1.1% 1981: 1.8% 1982: 3.1% 1983: 5.5% 1984: 10.6% (got mainstream) 1985: 20.8%
  22. Source ? Looking at it, the one journalist she was involved with never reviewed any of her games. That became sleeping with reviewers with an s for better reviews of her game ? I cannot find good review of that game to begin with. From what I understand the scandal is born of a guy that had Quinn has a source in 3 articles: https://archive.fo/tUlkm https://archive.is/NeJis http://archive.is/WtK25 And they became a couple after or during that process, people suspected they become friend during said process and without being a couple if they started to hang out it was not disclosed. I mean maybe ? But how one would know that ?
  23. Name a significant one it would have ? Records at the time of release OW: $247.97M DOM: $936.66M WW: $2.79B
