  1. Arnolds highest grossing and arguably best movie, opened with second highest OW of all time and was the first movie to gross over 300m OS. Even today it lives on as one of the most iconic summer blockbusters.
  2. Dont know why people hate this movie so much.... Sure its cheesy but I always found it to be a fun intriguing movie. The premise is certainly very interesting, and admittedly they could have done a little more with it but its enjoyable for what it is. I'd argue that the postman was far more damaging to costner's career as that movie was a complete flop.
  3. Cant believe people though this would do 150m+. It should have been obvious that this movie was never going to do more than American Gangster, another long talky R rated movie. But that one had actual star power, and this one didnt.
  4. The beginning of the movie is a bit wonky with the editing but once the story gets going it gets good. B+
  5. American Assassin is fucking screwed at this point, but american made should have enough breathing room to be a minor breakout. The reviews are solid and with the popularity of the show narcos there's certainly some interest in a story like this. I could see American Made making about 50-55m
  6. Even after 27 years it still holds the record for highest grossing western, which shows just how impressive its gross is and how pitiful the western genre is in terms of blockbusters. Although Costner had a couple of successful movies before this such as Untouchables, Bull Durham and Field of Dreams, Dances with Wolves is what made him one of the biggest movie stars in the world at least for a while. Unfortunately he never lived up to the potential he reached here and with a few years the public had already turned against him. Dances With Wolves is what film making should be all about, taking risks. Costner had approached several people to direct and everybody had turned him down. But he didn't give up on it and decided to direct it himself despite not previous experience. He not only made a great movie but he also revitalized the western genre.
  7. Looking back I can see that it used to be quite popular, but it seems in the past few weeks it has died out. Sure a lot of good movies were discussed, but theres literally decades of films to talk about and potentially 20 films to be discussed per year. I think its unfortunate that nobody seems to interested. Even a thread about Back to the Future didn't generate a single reply, which is shocking for such a classic and successful film. What can be done to bring its back to life?
  8. Can we all just admit that the Costner version was the best? Cant accost the Costner
  9. Although some of these actors have done forays into genres like drama I have primarily tried to focus on actors who are most well known or had their biggest boxoffice success with comedic roles. For me the answer is and always will be Jim Carrey, I grew up with Ace Ventura, Dumb & Dumber, The Mask, and Bruce Almighty and in my opinion no other comedy actor has a comparable screen presence.
  10. I liked the comment about Stallone having negative body fat, that was funny
  11. Sad to see this fail, it was quite enjoyable. Plus it was nice to see the comedic side of Daniel Craig, he's always so serious in the bond flicks.
  12. I severely doubt Blade Runner is going to break out. Both times when it played the audiences I was with were very confused.
  13. I really feel like Bowfinger would have become a big success if hadn't dealt with the sixth sense. Of course nobody could have seen it coming but it opened in Sense's second weekend and was never able to really take off. Also this thread seems to be really popular but hardly anybody posts in the classic boxoffice runs thread which is really dissapointing.
  14. Its funny because at a certain point people were seriously saying that Zoolander 2 would defeat Deadpool.
  15. While Star Wars is impressive for its sheer size, it did largely what it was expected to do. Its the largest franchise on earth, it would have taken a miracle for it to not break the record. Which is why I mostly tried to include movies that overperformed relative to their genres/budgets/predecessors.
