  1. Also yuck at the The Prestige with a B CinemaScore. Arguably Nolan's best film (for now I can't decide between The Prestige, Memento and Oppenheimer as his best one).
  2. I don't really consider franchises that had continuous releases to be "nostalgia bait" in the same way as say TFA or Jurassic World. NWH is the exception as that was obviously relying on nostalgia for Tobey and Andrew despite being part of an ongoing series.
  3. Better late than never but glad to see some good news coming from what has been overall a disappointing summer so far. Enjoy this while we can cause I don't see this perfect storm of events happening anytime soon for two movies that are as different as each other yet oddly connected in a weird way. Add SoF's remarkable run and Elemental's comeback the summer is seeing some good stories towards to the latter part.
  4. Peter Sohn's parents died during the production of this film so it's very much a love letter to them and it's heartwarming to see it connect. Also he really shouldn't be blamed too much for The Good Dinosaur that movie had so much production trouble.
  5. Depends how big your break is in between films but if it's only a couple of hours or under Barbie then Oppenheimer is the way to go. I surprisingly found the experience not as draining as I found watching Your Name and then Arrival (the last time I watched movies in the cinema back to back) considering how time is handled in both movies and they're pretty emotional too.
  6. Yeah the bomb sequence itself was good but nothing out of the ordinary for me (though I did hear some gasps in my cinema). It's the stuff after though that I think will leave people with a big impact and it's my favourite part of the movie.
  7. I hope Nolan got his Bond desires out of the way with Tenet which is essentially his spy film. I wouldn't mind seeing him going back to sci-fi or go to film noir but contemporary.
  8. Movies in cinemas for me this year Puss in Boots 2 The Fablemans Ant-Man 3 John Wick 4 Dungeons and Dragons Mario Suzume GOTG 3 Fast X Across the Spider-Verse The Flash Elemental Indy 5 MI7 Barbie Oppenheimer Need to check but pretty sure I've already met the total for 2022. Might be a bit of a dry spell though til November for me.
  9. Happy to say I survived Barbenheimmer and enjoyed both quite a bit. I was surprised with how big the male demo was in my Barbie screening and how young the demo was in my Oppenheimer one. Think both will be set up to have very good legs.
  10. For me it took a while for it to get going but once it did I was fully engrossed and the last hour maybe the best thing Nolan has done. Everyone has mentioned Cillian Murphy and RDJ but I also wanna say I very much enjoyed Jason Clarke in his role in the film. I do have to say I did find maybe 10% of the dialogue hard to hear unfortunately but at least it wasn't as bad as Dunkirk or Tenet. Can't wait to rewatch this in IMAX.
  11. It's funny because this whole discourse about Greta Gerwig actually plays a bit into the themes of the movie. Really enjoyed it I definitely can see how it plays in a similar sandbox to Lego Movie but more upfront and adult about it. This movie ain't being subtle and I dug that.
  12. Quality isn't the issue here thr audience scores indicate it was liked as much as the last couple of MI films. Paramount just made some really unforced errors unfortunately which they'll need to take a hard look at themselves about.
  13. Rewatching alot of Nolan films and the only one that I've changed my mind on is Interstellar. I always liked the film but considered it lesser among his works but I definitely love it now.
  14. Yeah with the $300M mark breached the Elemental comeback story will gain much more traction online like Puss in Boots did when that film started to improve.
