I never said that they shouldn't have made a sequel to Captain Marvel. Of course they should have. They just should have never made THIS sequel. I don't want to get into it too deeply here because people get mad at you when you tell the truth about movie going habits. I'll just say, if you make a 200M movie for women and they don't show up to support it then that sounds like a movie that you shouldn't have made.

They are not firing Kevin Feige but say goodbye to movies with no audience like The Marvels. Disney aren't going to let him do that again.

If Marvel made this movie for us women then they failed tremendously because we didn't even show up. If we did that 63% number would be reversed.

Everything that could go wrong with the MCU has gone wrong. Genre fatigue but most importantly inconsistent quality during the age of COVID harmed moviegoing. People are celebrating a Marvel movie getting 61% on RT now. That would be unthinkable 3 years ago. That's how far everything has fallen.

The truth is, women don't care about Captain Marvel either. It's time to acknowledge that.

Seeing people on here trying to downplay the sequel to a 1.1 billion dollar Marvel film flopping is interesting. "It's just like Shazam 2." No it isn't because Shazam 2 wasn't following up a billion dollar film.

The suggestion that Marvel Studios, which is a studio mind you, just stop making movies was silly in 2019 post Endgame and its silly now. Studios make movies. There is no reason for it to exist if it stops making movies.

I don't always agree with anyone, including the mods but keeping the weekend thread closed until the actual Thursday preview numbers are released seems smart to me.

RT audience score means nothing. Post Track and Cinema Score do. This film screams B+ to me. We'll see.

You can believe it is overrated if you like as everyone is entitled to their opinions but Winter Soldier solidified MCU Captain America's icon status post Avengers. It made him cool to audiences. Captain Marvel desperately needed her own Winter Soldier but Marvel gave Captain Marvel her own Thor: The Dark World instead.

Probably a bigger mistake to even have television characters co-staring in the sequel to your billion dollar hit. Making the sequel to your billion dollar hit look like a Disney Plus series will never be smart. I honestly think this is the biggest blunder that Disney has made in a long time.

I keep having certain posters tell me that 69M of Captain Marvel's opening weekend came from female ticket buyers but I have a question? How come all of those 69M worth of female ticket buyers aren't interested in seeing the sequel? I'd like for that question to be answered.

I think the target audience was women but they thought it would draw in the men who always see Marvel movies in droves. Marvel movies have a good female fan base but they're predominantly directed towards men so I think that they should have had another male character in there that wasn't Samuel L Jackson and preferably in the 30-40 year age bracket. Hey I may be a Lefty SJW feminist but I have box office brain so I always think about these things. I know some people are going to hate me for this but I would never make a 200M action movie with an all female team and villain. I think female led action movies are already at a huge disadvantage and adding more disadvantages on there is playing with fire. Again I just think like a studio head when it comes to these things. Sorry. Lol

Yes. No Way Home had a stellar hook and great reviews. The Marvels and No Way Home aren't remotely comparable in any way.

I wasn't expecting Catching Fire level reviews as that's just a great movie and too much to expect but just a little better. Oh well, let's see where it lands when it has 100-150 reviews.

Overly positive early "reviews" syndrome strikes again.

Along with the oversaturation issue, I think The Marvels is paying for the sins of other MCU movies that disappointed people and yes Captain Marvel itself too. Captain Marvel because despite their attempts at a character arc, attempts that I'd argue failed, I don't believe that people latched onto Carol like they did Black Widow. I'm not even a huge fan of Scarlett Johansson but I believe she lended that character a likability and vulnerability that Captain Marvel just doesn't have.

And that last paragraph is why I hate how much credit people gave Marvel for its diversity. They waited until the last minute, 10 years in to do these films. They were not ahead of the curve and I will never give them that credit.
