I don't get why they had to make Wakanda Forever when they did as well. What was the rush outside of quick profits for the studio? They could have waited and mourned and then decided whether it was smart to kill off the most important black character in the MCU. I still don't agree with the decision. Chadwick death was a horrible tragedy, I even cried but T'Challa is bigger than any actor. All of these characters are. I hate when people say retire characters that have existed for decades because an actor died. I remember people saying that the Joker should be retired from live action movies after Heath Ledger died. The Joker had been around for like 65-70 or so years when Ledger died and his death had nothing to do with the role and yet the character should cease to exist, why? Anyway, why was Thunderbolt Ross recast? Did William Hurt's death mean nothing? Marvel are really inconsistent on who they recast.

COVID has shrunk movie going, so Marvel movies wouldn't have continued to sell as many tickets as they used to but Quantumania's big opening weekend showed that there was still a big audience. Unfortunately Quantumania got a Batman v Superman level reception and severely harmed the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The trust is gone. People are not going to automatically show up for any Marvel character now. Marvel has to sell the characters again. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 opening post Quantumania shows you how well-liked the Guardians were. The Marvels opening weekend shows you how unpopular the Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel character is.

"The Marvels will be another Elemental and have great legs." "Talk show appearances add 100M to a film's opening weekend." "Ms Marvel is a beloved character and a draw despite her Television show and movie bombing." This is all 100% cope. Words cannot describe how sad it is to me that Ms Marvel isn't popular because I think that she is a great character and has been perfectly cast. I still won't live in a fantasy world about her popularity though. I guess being the fan girl of an unpopular hero kind of limits your appeal.

We'll see if the final number is slightly higher at 1.8M. Overall I don't see anything special happening. I'm just waiting for the 60+% second weekend drop so that MCU fans can let go of this Elemental legs fantasy. Elemental isn't even a good comp for The Marvels even if it did have legs. It's a PG-13 rated MCU movie while Elemental is a Pixar movie. I just despise that comparison.

Sue was an afterthought or dumb eye candy in the previous film iterations. I don't mind her being the lead. That sounds like a good idea in my opinion. Using a female version of The Silver Suffer instead of the more popular male version seems a bit pointless to me. I'm meh on the idea. If they want another prominent female role then just use a female character from the Marvel comics.
