  1. We had a question about Strictly Ballroom. Wikipedia, Letterboxd, and IMDb all have it listed as 1992. But the US release date was February 13, 1993. Do we want to count it or not?
  2. Shakespeare in Love is an excellent movie. Great, great script. So clever and funny. My tween self was so so so happy when that won, cause I loathed Saving Private Ryan. Harvey’s association with it actually makes me really sad, because I wished it wasn’t stained like that. Hard no. I just watched this movie last night for the 1993 list, and I spent the entire time wondering how the hell he got an Academy award for this performance. He’s playing the same character that he plays in every single movie I’ve ever seen him in. He’s fine, but How the fuck did he beat out LEO and FINNES and MALKOVICH?!?! It totally feels like a Gimmie. This feels like Nolan’s The Departed. He’s just gonna get it cause it’s his “time”. I don’t know if we’re going to ever get anything as funny as Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, and Francis Ford Coppola, randomly all showing up to announce who’s going to win Best Director, but it feels like we could get one of those moments again. Preach, girl. Preach.
  3. I was gonna save this for the end, but after some of those misses:
  4. I would be floored if it didn’t get (and win): - Best Production Design - Best Costumes - Best Original Son (“I’m Just Ken”) And if it didn’t get (and lose): - Best Hair and Make Up - Best Adapted Screenplay - Best Supporting Actor - Best Director - Best Picture
  5. He is SOOO funny!!! Let him be the straight man in some screwball comedy, please.
  6. It’s Barbie’s Dream House, not Jurassic World Ken’s Dream House
  7. I think he's super likable, tbh. Moreso than Driver. But I kind of get what you mean. My BIG issue with both of them is: There's no way in hell I'm gonna get lost in the movie, when I spend the whole time trying to figure out how The Doctor got in this scenario, and what's he gonna do when he meets Nebula. Not saying that actors can't play other roles, or be in multiple franchises. I mean, my bae is Steve Rogers and Johnny Storm. But He was Johnny Storm in a shitty movie that didn't have any real cultural impact. Whereas Matt Smith's the Doctor is .. He's The Doctor. 😍 He's My Doctor, sorry Ten. I think Matt Smith's a great actor, and I'm sure he could do it. I just think there's a better choice. As for Driver, cards on the table, I just can't take him seriously at all. Everything he does is unintentional hilarious to me. That said, if Sue was married to Kylo Ren, it would make it SOOOOOOOO believable for her to fuck off with Namor, which is #Endgame. So maybe we do want Driver as Reed. Hmm... ETA: Kirby would be fun for Sue. She was great in the MI7 flicks. Always interesting and captivating.
  8. Legit said out loud: “Good job, Barbie” at that number. My friend wanted to go see a Haunted Mansion discount day tonight, but she canceled on me. If it wasn’t for the dog, I would hop over to Barbie again. I’m thinking about it. 🤔 Gotta do my part to play Zaslav’s salary!
  9. You really need to prepare yourself for the dark knight winning by like 300 points 😂😂
  10. Looking to Catch Up? Here's a (partial) list of movies from 1993, and where they are streaming: Disney+ Hulu Max TBD Netflix TBD Paramount+/Showtime Peacock Prime Video (Included)
  11. I watched the Firm last night, speaking of Tom. Every 90s character actor is in that thing.
  12. I see we are at the point in the Misses of “I AM SORRY, EXCUSE ME?”
  13. One of these is yes please. One of these is fun. One of these is hard pass.
  14. Moderation: The Sound of Freedom discussion has been moved over to the Sound of Freedom Thread. No warnings have been given out, cause I get why it was initially posted here, but it really needs to go, and stay, in that thread. Thank you.
  15. wait wait wait how did I miss/forget this?!? Omg I quote this movie like four times a day. I would’ve totally Power Ranked had a known. one of my absolute favorites, ever
  16. I know this is Not The Point, but I Behalf of Eric, Phillip, and Beast/Adam, I want a written apology for that "Best Disney Prince Ever" bullshit. Signed "I am sorry for being a scab."
  17. That's kind of how this whole thing came about. I was talking to @Plain Old Tele about it, and went wait... those ALL came out in 1993?! He's SOOOOOOOO good in this as being SOOOOOO bad. Pure camp. Just love him.
  18. That's the spirit. That's the chutzpah we need for ranking around this place. Not the worse thing that could happen.
