God, this whole thing is a train wreck, and that delay is just going to fuel the conspiracy that they’re going to replace Rachel Zegler.
If nothing else, one would hope this whole mess will finally kill the trend of Disney live action remakes, but let’s be honest, that’s unlikely. They’ll just make a live action Frozen.
That interview seemingly confirms what we already figured out, that J.K. Rowling fell too much into her own hype.
Of course, certain individuals will continue to insist that Fantastic Beasts failed because a certain actor was recast for the third movie, as if these movies were doing great before that.
I see no reason to assume bad reviews would hurt a movie like this. I still can’t comprehend why they decided to do a hybrid release, though. They didn’t do that for Exorcist.
MCU movies have incredibly hectic post production schedules in general. Wakanda Forever finished filming less than eight months before it was released.
That’s my point. KotFM is not the kind of movie that would appeal to a mainstream audience, so taking that into account, these numbers don’t seem too bad. Compare this to how The Last Duel did two years ago, and the difference is pretty significant.
KotFM is looking to have a bigger OW than the latest Saw movie. Regardless of cost, that seems pretty solid for a three and a half hour Martin Scorsese movie with this kind of subject matter. Martin Scorsese has never been a box office darling anyway, and I’m certain that Apple wasn’t expecting the movie to recoup its massive $200 million budget in theaters.
I can safely say that I don’t recall Ant-Man 2 being promoted as a big event that you absolutely had to watch in the lead-up to Avengers 4. As I recall, it was just marketed as a low stakes action comedy. CM was marketed as the new face of the MCU, and the movie was released right as the hype for EG was really kicking into high gear.
Given the rather dire state of movie theaters right now, the idea of a three and a half hour Martin Scorsese movie with an uncomfortable subject matter opening to over $20 million might as well be taken as a win.
I’ve been thinking about this recently, and it’s occurred to me how insane it is that this is set to come out a full five years after principal photography concluded. I’m still not entirely sure what the nature of the most recent delay is. Was it just because they needed more time to work on the VFX or was it because of the strikes?
