I don’t understand who WB thinks they’re appealing to in regards to downplaying Mera at every turn. The Johnny Depp stans and MRA’s who hate her guts probably weren’t going to legally watch this anyway, and by actively downplaying her presence, they’re just going to turn away the people who like the character and/or support Amber Heard. It reminds me of how desperate J.J. Abrams was to win back the people who hated TLJ, even though most of those people ultimately still hated TRoS anyway.

Believe it or not, there was a time when the X-Men were the face of the Marvel Universe, and prior to the MCU, they were easily Marvel’s biggest property outside of Spider-Man. Yes, Spider-Man is more popular, but again, Disney doesn’t own the movie rights to the character. They do own the X-Men. Plus, Tom Holland has made it sound like he’s become disillusioned with the role since 2021.

Those rumors about what Sony wants for the MCU Spider-Man 4 make me even less eager for that to ever get made. At this point, I think they’d be better off giving Tom Holland’s Spider-Man a send-off in Secret Wars. Disney doesn’t own the movie rights to Spider-Man anyway, and they still have the X-Men.

William Hurt’s portrayal as General Ross was nowhere near as beloved or iconic as Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, and Ross is a supporting character anyway, so recasting him wouldn’t be nearly as distracting. There’s no comparison. Since you brought up the Joker, Nolan made the decision to not bring back the character after Heath Ledger’s death, much like how Marvel chose not to recast Chadwick Boseman.

It’s easy to see why the MCU would want to include Kamala Khan. Outside of Miles Morales, she’s easily the most popular character Marvel introduced in the 2010s, and on paper, she should be the perfect superhero for a Gen Z /Gen Alpha audience. I don’t think introducing her in a Disney+ show was such a good idea though.

I don’t understand the argument that recasting T’Challa would’ve been preferable to making Shuri the new Black Panther. A large part of the reason people gravitated towards the character was because of Chadwick Boseman’s portrayal. Getting a different person to play him would only be distracting, and would carry an unnecessary stigma for whoever the new actor would be, especially with how close the cast and crew apparently were to Boseman. On another note, Mads Mikkelson as Doctor Doom would not only be incredibly boring, but also painfully desperate. Is Marvel forgetting that he already played a villain in the MCU?
