  1. The idea that this is meant to be the first of a new trilogy always seemed like a really flimsy idea. How exactly is that supposed to work? Is the third movie supposed to bring back Regan or something?
  2. They wouldn’t need to do price hikes if the CEOs agreed to take a pay cut. Oh, but then they would each have one less yacht, and that would be just plain torture!
  3. The owner of Threads is comparatively less irritating than the person who owns Twitter (I will never call it X).
  4. I’m assuming that none of the Justice League actors are coming back, outside of Jason Momoa playing Lobo. It looks like the DCU is taking the New 52 approach, where it’s meant to be a reboot, but certain aspects of the old continuity will be kept in a broad strokes sort of way.
  5. “Funniest joke ever” Is it really though? This comes off like a joke from 20 years ago. In fact, this is basically something straight out of Fairly OddParents.
  6. I guess they’re just conveniently ignoring the Latina woman and her daughter, as well as the diversity of all the other Barbies, one of whom is played by a trans woman.
  7. This felt uneven. As everyone has said, it’s undeniably great on a technical level, but I don’t think the emotional beats worked especially well. I think I can also officially say that I agree with the notion that John David Washington isn’t an especially interesting leading man. I don’t regret watching it or anything. It’s about what I would’ve expected. It’s not terrible. I just think it’s missing something.
  8. I thought the highest grossing OW for a black woman director was A Wrinkle in Time?
  9. If you look earlier in this thread, you’ll notice I clearly said that this doesn’t look like anything unique for a sci-fi premise. All I said was this movie isn’t part of an established brand, which is objectively true. It’s not an adaptation of any pre-existing IP.
  10. I’m guessing this movie won’t fare all that well with the general audience, which would be a shame, because it flopping would only serve to further convince Hollywood that they shouldn’t take chances on anything that’s not part of an established brand.
  11. As long as the strike ends before November, this doesn’t need to be a December release. I don’t even know if a Deadpool movie is very Christmasy to begin with. Yeah, WB released Matrix 4 in December a couple of years ago, but that bombed spectacularly, so it’s not like anyone would want to emulate that.
  12. That would explain why Disney hasn’t moved The Marvels to the first weekend of November, despite that spot being vacant now.
  13. The animation style is weird. At first I thought they were trying to copy the Spider-Verse style, but now I think they’re trying to make it resemble hand-drawn animation? If so, they might as well have just made a hand-drawn movie.
  14. That’s probably the most clear answer he’s given on the subject. I still think it would be much easier if they didn’t bring back any of the past actors, but I guess we’re just gonna have to view it as a Judi Dench M situation.
  15. Rotten Tomatoes is a review aggregate site. The Tomatometer simply reflects the percentage of individual critics who recommend a movie, not how much they love it.
  16. Most of the praise seems to be for the technical aspects of the film, rather than for its story and characters. That sure sounds like a Gareth Edwards movie.
  17. Again, how was he being singled out? The Internet has been mad at Bob Iger and Ted Sarandos too.
  18. I’m pretty sure Lionsgate isn’t part of the AMPTP, although if I’m wrong, then feel free to correct me. Anyway, it wasn’t just WBD and Disney that people were calling out. Companies like Netflix and Universal got plenty of heat too.
  19. FFS, it’s been four years and journalists are still trying to milk Scorsese’s thoughts about superhero movies?
