  1. I think there’s an argument to be made that Disney films feel more homogeneous than films from the other major studios. That has sort of begun to change after they acquired 20th Century Fox.
  2. Assuming MI7, Barbie and Oppenheimer manage to coexist in July, then I don’t think the November date will be much of an issue.
  3. Lex Luthor in BvS doesn’t hate Superman because he sees him as a threat though. He hates Superman because he’s an egotistical manchild who can’t stand having his worldview challenged. He simply takes advantage of Bruce Wayne’s fears.
  4. Once again, I must point out that BvS was in development before MoS was even released. Its existence was not a response to MoS being some financial disappointment. They already began storyboarding it by March of 2013. I also fundamentally disagree with the notion that BvS was made “too soon.” Batman did not need his own movie before that.
  5. Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor has gotten better with time if you ask me. As far as modern updates of tech billionaires go, he’s actually pretty relevant.
  6. Ryan Gosling’s (probably) gonna be pushing 50 by the time BatB comes out. Just putting that out there.
  7. It would be distinctly ironic if this becomes the highest grossing DC movie of the year after how the scoopers kept saying it’s a piece of crap, while propping up Flash.
  8. Regarding the Spider-Man comparison, Homecoming benefitted from being part of the MCU, which was something people had been clamoring for, so that certainly helped. Plus, Spidey in general has never really had a problem maintaining relevance in the 21st century.
  9. Backlash from those people is unavoidable anyway. They should just be thankful this isn’t a Disney film.
  10. I don’t feel any need for Lex Luthor to be some imposing alpha male badass, but Alexander Skarsgard and Bill Skarsgard are both around 6’3/6’4, so it’s not like either of them are on the small side.
  11. I’m just saying that Lex Luthor isn’t always depicted as the perfect physical specimen in the comics. Personally, I actually think it’s more interesting if he’s someone of average build, since it further emphasizes how inadequate he feels compared to Superman. That’s why I kind of like the idea of Nicholas Hoult playing him.
  12. I wouldn’t call it a defining characteristic. Lex Luthor was initially portrayed as a mad scientist, and plenty of artists have drawn him as fairly slim. Eisenberg’s Lex in particular resembles the one from Superman: Birthright. Sure, Lex has been depicted as physically imposing before, particularly in All Star Superman and the DC Animated Universe, but it’s not really a constant for the character.
  13. Pretty much all of Gunn’s superhero projects thus far have followed a very similar formula, so I don’t know if he’s really in a position to talk about how lazy the genre has become.
