WTF is everyone on about. Where is this 500M doom and gloom coming from? Dune 1 made 2.6x its OW domestic while being widely available on streaming Day 1. Dune 2 at minimum opens with 75M and 2.6x of that already 200M. I am willing to bet that it hit 3x for like 230M or so. Dune 1 made 300M OS. This one is opening at least 50% larger in every market, some even doubling. Same legs send it almost 450M OS already. Personally, I see it hitting 500-550M for much better reception. Even at lower end for both DOM and OS, it is making 600M WW, and high end 750M+. That's is blockbuster level for sure, especially with a very reasonable budget of under 190M. This movie is literally firing on all cylinders from quality to reception of critics and audiences and box office number alike and some of you guys are still like puff this thing flops eck so meh. WHAT???

I just saw I Tiktok guy saying "his body levitating and his soul rising" as he watched the movie so idk man maybe it is.

I'll be seeing the movie tomorrow but it will be my longest trip to a movie theater ever. No IMAX theater in my little hometown so I'll have to be flying 900km over to the NYC equivalent of my country to catch a prime time showing Saturday night 7:00PM. And since the trip already made I already book another showing 9:00AM the next morning and fly back home that afternoon. Luckily I've spent a good part of my life in that major city before moving back so it's all familiar.

I think his point is simply about "show don't tell" over spoken exposition. Like, if something can be conveyed through visual then that should be preferred over describing the same thing in dialogues. Seen a lot of that in his movies.

I have circle back to many universally acclaimed movies in the past years and dare I say only Oppenheimer seems to match Dune 2 level of praise, at least in social reactions.

Granted Marvels still opened with 46M, which is not that far off from Dune industry tracking of 65M only recently. Now I believe Dune will open bigger, maybe much bigger, but if it keeps the November date, both movies would have been hurt.

Yes, although I've seen similarly praised movies before, I couldn't remember one firing on all cylinders from being epic, action-packed, thematically resonant, emotionally riveting and like 10+ more aspects. Most will fail to deliver on some fronts (story/action/acting/...) but like some critics say, this one is as close to a perfect movie as possible?

Heard presales is better than Oppenheimer.
