  1. So the point is that it's not the fuckin name of the product, it's the promo surrounding the product itself. I.e. sell the image of Batman and sell the image of Captain Marvel.
  2. Which begs the question...why is this not a 50-80 million budget movie then? I dunno. It seems like it COULD BE a turning point with this - the pile-on for a Goliath that finally finds itself in its knees. Everyone might be going "yes, finally we can let it rip" and it gets trashed. I think it's gonna be a mediocre movie and reception, but I wouldn't be shocked if the level of panning is beyond anything the MCU has seen.
  3. To be fair, I dunno how much good DaCosta being out to promote it would do. She's obviously not Cameron, Nolan or even Raimi - who even on an MCU project, still attracts interest on his own. And considering the mess after the interview where she said it's not really her movie (regardless of how accurate that is, what the context was etc), there might even be apprehension of it making things worse. At this point, it does seem like they've sort of given up on any promotion outside posters, billboards and clips/trailers. The issue is all of these have bene uninspired at best. It really is just the MCU brand that's a selling point.
  4. I would assume that "The Avengers" for most casual audiences means the original line-up. Calling Captain Marvel the leader of the group means fuck all if audiences just don't give a shit about her character. Maybe The Marvels will change that...
  5. IMAX re-release is likely, but it's not going to add more than a few million. Even if they do a two week run worldwide in IMAX, I still can't see it adding more than 10 million or so. It's a giant movie, not an indie drama no one saw. Those movies usually get exposure with awards season and people might go check them out. With Oppenheimer, pretty much anyone that wanted to see it did so. A re-release will get repeat viewers in as well as a small handful of curious people if the release happens after Oppie gets like 12 Oscar nods, but it's not going to do big numbers.
  6. What does KOTFM have to do with it? I'm just saying Argylle doesn't look good or particularly unique for the market (the hero straight out of the novel thing has already been played out recently in Lost City and that had MUCH bigger stars). Given what we've seen in recent years, this just doesn't seem like the kind of project that will get people out to cinemas in February, as opposed to waiting for it on streaming... We'll see, of course, and I do hope it does well, to keep the market going in a week season, but I am not optimistic.
  7. Ya, good luck with that. I'd be surprised if that didn't also flop.
  8. Meh. I was very hopeful for a 30+ weekend for KOTFM a while back. And I guess the low 20 isn't necessarily bad by itself, but obviously the budget is immense and even worse, the weekend multiplier isn't really pointing towards good legs. Its runtime and subject matter will mean it completely collapses on the weekdays. Oppie at least had summer weekdays to help. So there's hope for a good Fri and very good sat bump next weekend, but I'm not holding my breath for insane legs on this. I'm thinking 65 million total as of now.
  9. Never thought my 50 million expectation for Napoleon would be an optimistic take compared to others here lol. But I gotta say, Scott's schtick with the director's cut is wearing thin and has seriously killed any and all desire I had to see it in cinemas. Not only does it make me think "well why the fuck should I bother if the better version is gonna be on streaming?", but it just overall makes me wonder about the movie and Scott as a director, if he constantly has this issue. It's not like his movies are short, so if he repeatedly can't get his vision out there without an extra hour or two of content, then I have to question his ability.
  10. Scorsese is a master, his movies are pretty much all AT LEAST good-to-great, and obviously Apple will not give a shit, but... Marty does need a good slap across the face with his budgeting. Jesus Christ.
  11. I'd be shocked if one of the two massive, heavy - and heavily-favoured - epic period pieces actually wins BP. I think BD is between Nolan and Scorsese, but Picture goes to something smaller. I would love to be wrong, with the indicated split happening, but I have serious doubts about that outcome.
  12. I don't even know where this supposed discourse is. Look at how long the highest grossing movies of all time are. Like...what?
  13. "Predicts that it has a shot"...lol. It's basically saying that, a if it got two supporting actors and two supporting actress nods, it could do it. But obviously that's not gonna happen. And the more these types of titles get pushed out there, the more it will become the overwhelming studio juggernaut that can't be allowed to win. Realistically, I see 11-12 nods, with maybe 3 wins.
  14. I don't think Blade is getting axed rn, but having new creatives brought in doesn't necessarily mean they're committed to it. Movies can and do get scrapped very late into development. I'm not talking about the crazy shit like Batgirl, but if things aren't working, the delays from the strikes are hindering production and in the meantime the studio pivots on its direction due to an overall poor reception to its products in 2023 (both in cinemas and TV), it really wouldn't be insane if Blade got cut eventually. Fact is, the strikes have given the studio further time to re-evaluate everything and The Marvels potentially being a massive flop could be the final straw for a change of direction in the theatrical side, not just the announced shake up on D+. We'll just have to wait and see, but I would just be wary about taking the current announced slate as set in stone.
  15. Taylor Swift cast as Captain Marvel in Deadpool 3, with a new backstory of having had a relationship with Wolverine. Following the break-up whe is exposed to an alien jukebox, giving her superpowers and only allowing her to talk in song form. Will be the new leader of the Avengers moving forward.
  16. Sure, but I very much doubt this is reaching the kind of casual moviegoers that would be shocked by this behaviour (or not go along with it).
  17. I think the first trailer is cut very much like a crime drama one would expect from Scorsese, and makes it look accessible. Whether or not that's true (I have completely stayed away from reviews for it) is besides the point - I think the trailer makes it LOOK like a well-paced, entertaining drama. I definitely think it can open fairly high, but legs are a bigger question for me (with films of 160 minutes length and longer, the big discussion can quickly become "do you really FEEL that length?").
  18. I think the issue is they used that trick once already... with the first Captain Marvel. Yes, Strange is a more likable and developed character, but the hook after NWH wasn't Strange himself so much as the opening of the Multiverse and the potential therein (which was squandered, leading to the massive opening and mediocre-to-bad legs). Similarly, Captain Marvel was the big sting post IW. They literally dangled her as the last resort that Fury goes to in the most drastic situation ever encountered. Then she's basically a tow truck for Iron Man in EG and disappears for 2.5 hours after. Audiences have been burned on the perceived importance of the character before. And I have serious doubts Larson can make the character likable in any movie, even as a supporting character. I honestly think Larson just comes across cold in most of her roles, and I think she is horribly miscast here. I do actually hope The Marvels proves me wrong and she makes me want to see more of the character.
  19. I dunno. This whole notion of a concert movie is beyond me in the first place, so nothing about it makes any sense haha.
  20. Which is why Cineworld were being iffy in the first place. The writing seemed on the wall with this one - it's an event where people want to see it as soon as it's out, along with loads of other fans. It's unlikely people will be going deep into its run. I suppose the idea of the sets being slightly different each time can help with that, but overall it seems like it would be huge upfront and then drop like a rock.
  21. The problem is the overall announced crew doesn't present better options. Setting aside any issues you have with his charisma and sticking to a narrative perspective (as in, who leads the team, not necessarily who is the actual lead of the movie), Yelena is too much of a lone wolf type, Walker is a psycho, the others have way too little presence in past films and Bucky was fighting alongside all the Avengers in IW and EG. SO it makes sense for him to lead the team (even if, as I said, he is not the actual focus of the movie).
