  1. Yeah, I think like many performances in Malick films there was a lot more of the character in the script. I remember reading that Penn was pretty pissed at his character not being in it much.I still think Pitt was amazing and his character was kinda sorta not a "symbolic cutout" honestly that performance reminded me of my father.
  2. I didn't think much of the film either (I thought it would be many things, but I didn't think it would be as forgettable as it was) but it can't be denied that Pitt is great in it.
  3. Could end up being The Artist vs. War Horse. In that scenario it doesn't matter which wins.... Jeff Wells is gonna be pissed either way.
  4. Yes, Clooney does already have one but the Academy seem to love 'im. And The Artist seems to me like a film the Academy will go gaga over (expect it to get more noms than any other film) so it wouldn't be that far fetched for them to award him, and I don't know if Pitt's old enough to get a career prize, they usually go for pretty old guys for that, and I think his performance, as brilliant as it is, lacks that "oscar clip moment" it usually really helps if you have one of those. But there's always Michael Fassbender! #wishfulthinking
  5. It's up there as one of his best performances, if not his best. But I agree. He won't win. Not Oscary enough.
  6. The rest of that list confuses me more than Seinfeld. I despise Seinfeld.
  7. 1. Shame2. Dark Shadows3. The Dark Knight Rises4. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo5. The Avengers6. Skyfall7. The Amazing Spider-Man8. War Horse9. Prometheus10. Gangster Squad
  8. Good thing: Anonymous, probably won't get nominated but those are some very impressive visualsBad thing: No tree of life. What the fuuuuuuuuuuuck.
  9. Not all of them, of course, but it's just guess work. If I said which one I wanted to win or deserved to win without seeing them all.... that would be stupid.
  10. Not good enough. See the whole film or GTFO with that noise.
  11. Apparently Hugo and Melancholia both came pretty close to winning BP for those guys.
  12. Did I say it wasn't incredible? It's fantastical.
  13. And none of Stuart Craig's work is as good as Dante Ferretti's work on Gangs of New York. ALL of that shit was a set that was built. Incredible.
  14. But it is more, well I haven't seen it, but it seems clear that this is the consensus.
  15. No, I'm totally against that way of thinking. A movie should just win for the the merits of that movie itself. (even though that rarely happens.)Basically if Hugo has better production design it should most definitely win.
  16. What race are you talking about? It was definitely between True Grit and Inception and True Grit was the one most thought would win. And Black Swan was soooooo much better than both those films photography wise, should've won just for that opening dance sequence alone.
  17. Black Swan should've won it last year obv. Though I would've loved to have seen Roger Deakins finally win.
  18. Huh? Neither of you have even seen Dragon Tattoo. Stop talking.
  19. Either Jean Dujardin or George Clooney, or maybe even Brad Pitt since he did just win with the New York Critics...
  20. Albert Brooks wins the first BSA award of the season. Can he go all the way? I think so...
  21. Plenty typos in that list...I'm surprised that JoGoLev missed out on a nomination despite all the 50/50 love.
  22. I can't find one but I'm sure there are sites that will report all of them when they come around. I'll try to collect them all for this thread...

  24. Haven't seen The Artist yet so I can't comment on that, but I'm VERY PLEASED with the wins for Albert Brooks and Moneyball. Hopefully they'll stay strong throughout the season.
  25. It's one of the best films of the year. Stars Zachary Quinto, Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons - it's about the banking crisis. Definitely recommend it.
