  1. stuff like The Crown or Downton Abbey generally got more praise and awards from the US compared to the UK. that's the kind of stuff that's for whatever the British version of a weeb is. Anglophiles.
  2. Yeah, I guess i know too much about movies i see beforehand that I've never been surprised like that but I know I'd like it. If i saw Aquaman 2 next week and it was a musical, i think that'd be nice!
  3. Ocean Waves is pretty good imo. Kind of a normal high school romance thing but I enjoyed it.
  4. Eh, i think they're also more resistant to big budget movies that kinda suck. there are a couple examples of those you could pull out but far less than the globes. they're definitely a lot more generous to indie stuff. Like i said I totally expected Mario to show up there. changes nothing to me. Still gonna miss here. It's too competitive a year for Mario.
  5. I dunno stuff that got nominated at the Globes that missed at the Oscars are like; Frozen 2, Sing, the first Despicable Me, Hotel Transylvania, Cars 2, The Simpsons Movie, The Good Dinosaur, Lion King 2019. Mario makes sense to join that group to me.
  6. The golden globes have usually nominated trashy big studio animated movies that the Oscars ended up ignoring. I am not surprised at all they nominated Mario, still don't think it'll get an Oscar nod.
  7. i had no idea Arriety was the biggest ghibli film in the US. that's kinda weird. I've never seen it. I feel like nobody ever even talks about that one.
  8. The whole top 3 actually you've got anime, a godzilla movie and a prequel to a Battle Royale knockoff. huge W for Japanese cinema.
  9. The thing is the Golden Globes are usually less friendly to foreign animations and are more likely to nominate big studio stuff, this is actually Miyazaki's first nomination there too. So take out Mario and Wish and put in like Robot Dreams or Nimona or something and that might be the line-up.
  10. Suzume just got a golden globe nomination and Nimona didn't so there's def still life in it.
  11. If we're counting The Boy and the heron as a non-english language #1 might as well count Demon Slayer and Dragon Ball too since those both had sub and dub showings.
  12. Probably has to do with Heron Boy getting a slightly muted reception in Japan. Perfect Days did get a strong response out of Cannes it's not a bad pick good chance it still gets them a nomination.
  13. it is kind of a dated rule from back in the 50s when basically only french and italian films got real traction among critics. but i kinda like it i dunno as a film olympics sort of thing. it's always interesting to see what film a country's selection committee will pick to represent themselves. Interesting that this was the first year ever Japan picked a film from a non-Japanese filmmaker to represent them.
  14. these Japanese films doing well this is all setting the track for Kore-eda's Monster to open to $50mil when it expands into 4000 screens, right?
  15. well i'd hate to be a part of the whole "Oh you guys are sooo negative about everything" grousing so i'll just say... monkeys!😀🦍🐒🐵🙈🙉🙊
  16. i think it can be a hit. I'm just assuming it's going to be a straightforward slasher flick with no strong lore ties to other stuff.
  17. judging by his other posts here He just wants everyone to be talking about how badly the apple movies are bombing or whatever. Edit: lmao.
  18. There are a few shots in there that are verbatim from Fury Road (it's like poetry they rhyme). I just hope it doesn't feel like a retread papa george has been so good about introducing insane new elements in each of these movies.
  19. alien resurrection is a fun watch. i appreciate it as 90s shlock. I also like it more than 3. and it has my sweet baby adorable❤️
