  1. Since Paul Giamatti beat Timmy, Kylie is leaving with him.
  2. standard giamatti performance still the best performance of the year that's my GOAT.
  3. Happy Cillian won over Cooper but I hope it is Giamatti for the Oscar. His performance clears those two pretty easily.
  4. well it's not a competition but in my mind yes Parasite's success was more impressive than Boy Heron's. Prior to Parasite the highest grossing Korean film in the US was $2mil. and it's not like the hits have been rolling in since then either. except on Netflix where people can watch this stuff dubbed.
  5. oh yeah I saw it in a full crowd today (kinda surprised how busy it was) and there was a whole chorus of "fucking hell!"s at that one scene near the end. that was cool.
  6. liked this quite a bit. can admit it didn't always hold my interesting. Basically any scene with Shailene Woodley I was clocking out. she was awful yeesh. But on the opposite end Penelope Cruz was amazing. Feels like Emily Blunt in Oppenheimer and Carey Mulligan in Maestro are getting all the "long suffering wife in the biopic" awards buzz this year but neither are half as good as Cruz is in this.
  7. finally saw this and I didn't like promising young woman so i thought maybe i'd be on the side of the haters but ended up enjoying it very much. I think the people mad about it are probably taking it too seriously. the whole thing is kind of a goof. Like a modern day Kind Hearts and Coronets.
  8. Anyone But You good legs just the beginning of the year of Powell. Twisters is making one billion dollars and he'll win an Oscar for this Hit Man movie.
  9. This is what I've got so far. Kind of a disappointing year. I've seen 59 movies from 2023 and I don't think i've seen enough to fill a full 25 with good quality stuff that I like so hopefully will catch up on good stuff throughout the month. 1. The Boy and The Heron 2. May December 3. The Holdovers 4. Suzume 5. The Killer 6. Anatomy of a Fall 7. Showing Up 8. Perfect Days 9. Beau is Afraid 10. Oppenheimer 11. Asteroid City 12. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 13. Blackberry 14. Godzilla Minus One 15. The Creator 16. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant Mayhem 17. Killers of the Flower Moon 18. John Wick 4 19. Call Me Chihiro 20. Are You There God? it's Me Margaret
  10. made it into 2024. There sure are a lot of birthdays today.
  11. I think Boy and Heron is expanding next weekend. I had to go out of town to see it a couple days ago only to find it's coming to my local on Friday.
  12. I'm with you on Mononoke and Howl's. don't vibe with either of those. I do hold Porco Rosso in high regard as his most purely entertaining film.
  13. I spent a lot of it like "this is cool but where are they going with this". but then I thought it tied together and reached an emotional apex. some of his movies show you a cool fantasy world and then just go like "ok time to go bye" at the end. didn't feel that here.
  14. saw today finally and yeah it is wonderful. didn't have an anti-climactic ending like some of miyazaki's movies do. Thought it all came together beautifully.
  15. Heat 2 is confirmed the next billion dollar legacequel according to Michael Mann. But I'll leave it to tele to start the club.
  16. i actually just watched blue beetle last night just so i could be fully caught up before attending the DCEU funeral today. It was certainly something that played in front of my eyes for 120 minutes. it's funny that susan sarandon was there.
  17. just got back and I enjoyed the motion picture 'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom'. Not shocked by the reviews, think It's about on the same level as the first one but that film probably wouldn't survive a fresh rating if it came out today. Same corny meathead vibe here and i like it.
