(WK 3) Little Women - $70,000 (1,000) - Total: $4,500,000 Entering the Lunar New Year holiday, Hong Kong will see 6 new wide releases and 1 semi-wide release which is a Japanese anime. The Grand Grandmaster is expected to rule the box office of this period, expecting a HK$40 million-plus finish. The movie is starred, written and directed by stand-up comedian Dayo Wong, who is often seen as making fun of the one-party ruled China in some of his standup performances. In a week-old video to defuse allegations that his movie was a co-production, Dayo Wong claimed he self-financed the movie to make it purely HK and not succumb to Chinese rules and censorship. This seemed to have strengthened the support of his fans for the movie. With the outbreak of coronavirus looming in central China, Hong Kong, located south of mainland China, is bracing for the worst to come. The city has seen 5 confirmed infected cases so far. Some large public festive events have been cancelled. Cinemas are largely unaffected for now. Opening Jan 23 1. The Grand Grandmaster (HK) - comedy starring, written and directed by stand-up comedian Dayo Wong 2. Enter the Fat Dragon (HK) - action comedy starring Donnie Yen and many Japanese actors 3. Dolittle (US) 4. Spies in Disguise (US) 5. Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion The Movie (Japan) Opening Jan 25 1. All's Well, Ends Well 2020 (HK) - comedy adopting the formula of the same-titled 1992 classic ensemble comedy 2. You Are the One (HK) - rom-com
  4. 1. Tenet 2. Portrait of a Lady on Fire 3. The Turning 4. The Lodge 5. The Invisible Man 6. A Quiet Place: Part II 7. Les Misérables 8. Gretel and Hansel 9. The Rhythm Section 10. The Gentlemen
  5. The Futurist sounds like the man in the basement worshipping the house and the family. I see many similarities between Parasite and Joker+Us. All three films have the rich going on with their own lives and being oblivious to their surroundings and society as a whole. But Parasite goes a lot deeper than the other two thematically and nails the sociological and psychological dynamics.
  6. 1. Tenet 2. The Turning 3. Portrait of a Lady on Fire 4. The Invisible Man 5. A Quiet Place: Part II 6. Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway 7. The Woman in the Window 8. Scoob! 9. First Cow 10. Dolittle
  7. Filming started January 7. The first one was fun. Some of the escape room designs (esp. the upside down billiard room) were quite creative.
  8. As a family film and a non-sequel, Dolittle will see more walk-ins. But that Jumanji will still do around $10 million on the 4-day MLK weekend is not good news for Dolittle.
  9. This looks good and atmospheric, but are the kids too creepy for general audience?
  10. 1. Just Mercy 2. Tenet 3. 1917 4. A Quiet Place: Part II 5. Portrait of a Lady on Fire 6. The Woman in the Window 7. The Invisible Man 8. The Turning 9. Scoob! 10. Dolittle
  11. Han might be too high on Death on the Nile and Venom. Both are too optimistic about The Trial of the Chicago 7.
  12. October would not be a weak month at all based on you guys' predictions. It would be second only to 2018.
  13. The second trailer for Dolittle is playing in theaters only (for now).
  14. Regarding Peter Rabbit, there is some uniqueness in the animation and humor that other kids movies can't replicate. I think people who fondly remember the first one will be ready to see this.
  15. 2.7 million trailer views after two months. Isn't it a little low for a franchise movie? I guess Sony is not putting money in advertising on Youtube.
  16. 1. Tenet 2. Just Mercy 3. Portrait of a Lady on Fire 4. The Invisible Man 5. The Woman in the Window 6. Uncut Gems 7. Spies in Disguise 8. Scoob! 9. Little Women 10. 1917
  17. With TRoS and Jumanji not doing as big as expected, will January have enough breathing room for this to do well?
  18. 1. Tenet 2. Just Mercy 3. Portrait of a Lady on Fire 4. The Woman in the Window 5. Uncut Gems 6. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker 7. Bombshell 8. Spies in Disguise 9. Cats 10. Little Women
  19. I think this will take advantage of Cats being outside of mainstream and Little Women lacking physical action.
