  1. Bravo. When did it become sinful and un-feminist to give female protagonists a love interest? That is the biggest crock of shit I have ever seen. A female protagonist having a love interest isn't inherently sexist, and it doesn't inherently mean that she "needs" someone to be complete. At the end of the day, I am happy that Jenkins doesn't adhere to that odd strand of feminism that equates celibacy with empowerment.
  2. This is always a stupid response. They could specifically look for a gay Asian and STILL get the actor who is best for the part. The assumption that those two things are mutually exclusive reeks of...
  3. Sucks that this tale was so wasted. The Mexican folk tale La leyenda de la Llorona has so much potential to inspire a supremely creepy, supremely scary film that could have tap into a primal fear of many women (and men): losing their children to horrific circumstances. And I don't care what others say, the film should have cast a Hispanic woman as the social worker that Cardellini plays (although it is obvious that she is not the reason this film is apparently so bad).
  4. It is always exciting when people of color (particularly women of color) make it as screenwriters (and producers, like Cooper is) in Hollywood. It always helps to have diverse voices behind the scenes because it usually leads to more diverse faces and stories onscreen. So...how long before Akela gets a gig writing a superhero movie? Vixen anyone?
  5. While the haters keep lamenting her Hollywood success and clamoring for her to remain in the 2000s (all while they sitting in front of their laptops in their sad studio apts or basements), she continues making insane amounts of money and enjoying her fame, wealth, and success. Oh, and they know who she is, but she has no clue that they even exist.
  6. Good thing that Patty also gave Wonder Woman something that a billion dollars could not give Captain Marvel: a good film (93 % RT versus 78 % RT)....
  7. She is so talentless and irrelevant that, like you said yourself, she has all kinds of projects coming up (and still continues enjoying not just her 300-million-dollar-plus fortune but her fame) while you and Tombraider are sitting at home, furiously typing away, bothered by her "irrelevance" and "lack of talent"
  8. Yes! If anything because I would love for Wonder Woman to get a whole trilogy with Gal and Patty (we all know that eventually, the character will get reboots, but I love what Gal and Patty have done!), and because I want to see how Carol's future films integrate her vast comic book history (I want to see Deathbird antagonize Carol, like in the old Ms. Marvel book!!!!!)
  9. Exactly! Even if you and I may see these fake fights as what they are, there will always be fans of both parties who will truly believe that the "fights" are real, and they will continuously perpetuate those non-controversies as if they were real. Now, we have all seen, with Captain Marvel's gigantic box office success that those stupid incels opinions and campaigns really have no power to impact a film's box office, but I still would hate WW84 to open with any kind of negative narrative around it. I want it to have all elements in perfect alignment for it to be a box office smash.
  10. I really hope it is just them being silly with each other. I don't want any controversy or "fanwar" to taint Wonder Woman 1984's opening. Both Gadot and Jenkins have been such positive figures throughout this whole Wonder Woman cinematic journey; I want them to continue spreading light, love, and kindness.
  11. The MCU box office is phenomenal; the quality, on the other hand can be...um... with Captain Marvel being the latest mediocre MCU film to achieve gigantic BO thanks to the amazing reputation that the Marvel Universe has amassed (and thanks to riding the IW/EW coattails...)
  12. I thought the same thing. At first I thought Patty was joking and Murphy misinterpreted her joke as being a serious dig at him, which made him then throw real shade at her. But now, I am not sure. Maybe it is all a stunt to drum up some controversy...but we are so far from the film's opening, that it would be silly to do that now... However, now all I can think of is "wouldn't it be great if Lily Rabe were cast as a villain in Wonder Woman 3????"
  13. Sure, because we all know that it was global box office megastar Constance Wu's presence (and not the immense popularity of the book "Crazy Rich Asians") what powered the box office of CRA, the film. By the way, care to make a prediction for this too, like your "triumphant" prediction/club for Second Act?
  14. The immense financial success of CM is a testament to the brand potency of the MCU, the markeing genius of Feige and Co. and the audience loyalty that Marvel has cultivated over a great run of mostly critically acclaimed films. If CM had gotten a Wonder Woman-level of critical acclaim, and had it had any scene even half as memorable and emotionally resonant as WW's No Man's Land, I am utterly convinced it would have grossed 500 million in the US. As it stands, it will be soon forgotten as the kind of MCU film (Thor 2, Dr. Strange, Ultron, Hulk) that all MCU stans have in their collection but that they never re-watch.
  15. The reviews that CM got are well-deserved: it is lower tier MCU that got higher tier box office thanks to being perceived and marketed as a must-see bridge to Endgame. There is no shame in being mediocre; at least MCU stans can rejoice in the fact that it grossed a billion dollar, despite being utterly forgettable.
  16. LOL Now I really want this to become a box office smash just so the "edgy, supercool" genre fans who look down on this property (which was never made for them anyway) shut their traps.
  17. Yes it can. Wonder Woman and Aquaman prove that it can, but clearly the DCEU has to have the right movie at the right time. Shazam! is certainly the right movie, but it was not released at the right time. Unfortunately (and it pains me to say this), I am going to have to admit that yes, being sandwiched between the one-two punch of Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame did Shazam! no favors.
