  1. Except that's what he's been saying since the start. Focusing so much on one property or trying to dismiss a certain genre just because it happens to be the most successful doesn't help his argument in any way. It won't change a thing.
  2. Then why not make this the focus and drop this delusional idea that he gets to decide what cinema is? Just makes him sound like a bitter old man.
  3. Who's suggesting that they will or should do that? Once again, my point wasn't that Cynthia should be excluded, merely that she has received more attention for her comments than her performance.
  4. Umm, the Joker gained much more attention because it's the Joker, because it's a more mainstream film and because of the nature of the controversy. In any case, the controversy with Erivo garnered enough attention to where she and the director were asked about it. You not hearing about it doesn't change that.
  5. If you haven't heard anything, you aren't paying attention. It's been all over twitter for months now. Cynthia has been asked about it multiple times, so has the director and neither has done a good job of addressing the issue. I never said the controversy would affect whether or not she gets a nom. This is the kind of movie the Academy usually falls for so I wouldn't be surprised if it happens. I'm simply saying that there has been more talk about her comments than praise for her performance or her getting an Oscar nom. Awkwafina, Renee Zellweger, Scarlett Johansson, Lupita and Alfre Woodard have all gotten more buzz and the latter is in a movie that hasn't been released yet.
  6. I hope to God they do not. Given Cynthia's ignorant comments about Black Americans and the way she gaslights anyone who raises concerns about said comments, I don't want to see her play any more Black Americans. Harriet may be doing relatively well but I don't see much buzz for Cynthia's performance. (It doesn't look particularly impressive from what I've seen.) She is getting more negative attention for having been cast in this movie than anything else.
  7. The constant need to compare everything to the MCU (as opposed to CBMs in general) is both hilarious and ironic. It's the highest compliment to the MCU, really.
  8. Been reading tweets about this movie on twitter and all I have to say is that I feel even better about not supporting it at all.
  9. I don't watch Doom Patrol but lol at Titans being better than Watchmen. I'll give Titans credit for having better production value than what we see on the CW shows but the writing is only slightly better. I'm about ready to quit watching given the obsession with flashbacks and focus on everyone but the main Titans. It certainly isn't on Watchmen's level, as I can't think of a single episode that comes close to being as good as the first two episodes of Watchmen. Given how much praise Watchmen has gotten, I can't see it not getting some love during awards season...unless Lindelof really does screw up the ending and that's certainly possible. But even then, I think acting noms are still very much in play.
  10. I will agree with that. If Lindelof can stick the landing, it will probably end up as number 1 on my list.
  11. The fact that people keep posting these comments is hilarious, as Lindelof wasn't exactly praising Snyder's Watchmen. This is basically the equivalent of saying the movie wasn't very good but Snyder did the best he could. I hear Lindelof and Snyder are friends (or friendly) which may explain why Lindelof chose his words carefully. By the way, after two episodes of Watchmen, I have to say this show has the potential to be the best live action adaptation of any DC property ever. Very impressive, very cool stuff so far.
  12. Queen Viola with the best take yet. Davis went on to explain that what she loves about superhero films is their ability to capture and expand the imagination. “Albert Einstein said that imagination is more valuable than knowledge. If I did not have my imagination, I would still be poor Viola living in Central Falls, Rhode Island, who is not considered attractive or whatever,” she said. “My imagination defined me. I could escape into a world that’s infinite, a world that I could create on my own, a world where I could redefine myself. That’s where art lives." She continued, “Art lives in that world of imagination. It’s a playground there. It’s God’s playground. It’s not up to anyone to say what deserves to be there and what doesn’t deserve to be there. It’s anything that you want to be in that place can live there. And that is why we have some of the greatest painters, some of the greatest actors, some of the greatest writers, and that’s why we live. So I do believe that there’s a place for all of it.” Davis did qualify that she loves all of Scorsese’s films. “I think he was voicing his opinion. I think it’s valid,” she said. “Everyone had a place, an opinion. But I like a good Marvel movie.”
  13. Just remembering that time people debated whether BP could gross 300M dom. To see the way it exploded, even when you take out China, is still mind boggling. Greatest and sweetest BO run for me. What's the correlation, exactly? No movie (save an Avengers movie) is guaranteed to gross 1B simply because another movie from the same studio did so. WW2 may very well do so but it's hardly a given.
  14. It matters because of the sudden pearl clutching over the idea of someone defending Bob Iger. It also shows how grossly ridiulous and hypocritcal Coppola sounds when he uses words like "despicable" to describe movies.
  15. People in here defending Coppola calling movies despicable when he's supported a child rapist. But we draw the line at defending Bob Iger (which I was hardly doing). Oh no... that is too much! Fandom never ceases to amaze.
  16. No more of a dumbass than either Coppola or Scorsese. Even if you think their work is far superior, Black Panther is no less an example of cinema. Indeed, it's one of the best examples of why Coppola and Scorsese are dead wrong about comic book movies.
  17. Uhh yeah. A show that wants to talk about race or tackle white supremacy in any truthful or meaningful way has no business painting a rosy or heroic picture of American police. Thankfully, I don't think that's what Lindelof is doing. I wouldn't go quite that far. I think Snyder has his strengths. He's quite good at crafting great visuals and action sequences. The problem is that he's not a very good storyteller. The fact that he gave us Cavill as Superman (with the best Superman aesthetic yet) and wasted him on dull, incoherent stories is a real shame. I wish he were as talented as his fans believe him to be.
  18. I would say the exact opposite. The last act is the only enjoyable part of the movie. The rest is an incoherent, boring mess.
  19. What do audiences expect, exactly? Because I think it's safe to say that Wonder Woman and Aquaman have more in common with MCU movies than a DC movie like Joker.
