  1. 200M OW for Barbie? Where is that coming from? Lol 170M seems like a more realistic high for it. I was thinking more like 150-160M with that preview number? I've only just read the last few pages btw.
  2. Oh that would be a little disappointing after Friday’s number. Guess we’ll have to see what the actual number is.
  3. So are there any reliable saturday numbers in here? I didn’t see anything pinned and I’m not trying to read through a thread of bad takes.
  4. Sure but in terms in that particular speech, not many white male actors would have the self awareness or humility to say what he said. There was also some nuance to it that made it more impressive. The fact that he likely annoyed the "SJW" crowd (many of whom loved Joker) was a bonus.
  5. I'm late but I refuse to celebrate Joker in any way. That Phillips has been nominated for directing/writing awards is laughable. BUT I will admit that Joaquin's BAFTA speech was brilliant and made me soften to him as a person. I'm cool with him sweeping the best actor award this season.
  6. Best thing about this trailer (and poster) is how JDW is undoubtedly the star. Would have been easy (and the safe choice) to feature Pattinson more but he barely registers. Nolan giving me even more reason to stan.
  7. Even if The Hand plot in season 2 wasn't good, the stuff with Punisher and the Matt/Elektra relationship made it the most interesting season for me. Bullseye was the best part of season 3 and it's shame we won't get to see more of him but overall, I thought Daredevil was pretty overrated. Luke Cage was my favorite of the Netflix shows, namely because of how many great women characters it gave us. It reminded me of Black Panther in that way and how none of the other shows/movies even came close. Luke Cage also gave us the best version of Danny Rand...it deserves praise for that alone.
  8. I'm not even a big Lupita fan but the fact that she isn't a lock for a nomination in the same way Phoenix is considered a lock is both telling and predictable. The same applies to why Cynthia now looks like the favorite for the token black nomination. The idea that Harriet is a better role or that Erivo is a way more serious actress is laughable to me. She's in an awards friendly movie and a familiar role, re: black actors and what voters are willing to reward. It's that simple.
  9. Haven't had the time to respond to this since I watched but just wanted to say we are in agreement on this being a poignant episode, the best of the season in that regard. I can't quite place it above episode 6 because Hooded Justice's origin really is that good but it's right up there as well.
  10. Did I miss this being posted? I thought Black Knight was her love interest? Was that fake news, or are they going for a triangle?? 🤔
  11. Will be watching before bed. No spoilers but does it top episodes 6 and 7 for you?
  12. Lol What? Reading the comic gives you a greater understanding of the plot but no, it's not required reading. And I fail to see what it fundamentally misunderstands about the comic. On the contrary, this show is rather faithful to the themes of comic while elevating and expanding on it in such a way that Alan Moore himself would likely appreciate. Re: the trailer discussion, that WW trailer is very underwhelming imo. Every trailer from the first movie is better than this one. Wasn't all that impressed with the BW trailer either. Mulan and Bond are the best of the bunch.
  13. Trailer looks good to me. Lashana appears to be a standout. Excited to see it just for her.
  14. Berlanti and his shows are the epitome of mediocrity (at best). Sure he's successful but it's not as if the standards are high, whether we're talking quality or ratings.
  15. Came here to say Watchmen just delivered the best episode of any comic book show ever and one of the best episodes of any tv show ever. Ain't no way the Emmys could snub such brilliance.
  16. Well at least WB seems to have learned from handing the keys over to Snyder. The idea of Phillips having access to every DC villain is a scary thought. Re: this new film, I wonder which Scorsese film Phillips will "pay homage" to next? 🤔
  17. It still made over a billion. Wasn't that the point about BvS...that it failed to do so?
  18. I actually do want to see Snyder's cut just for the Barry/Iris scenes that were completly cut from JL. Plus, it would be rather amusing to see the very same fans who've been campaigning for this predictably whining about the inevitable criticisms and mocking from Snyder "haters." They want it out there so they should be able to take the bad with the good but I very much doubt that.
  19. Well I can't claim that this guy was high on my list but he looks the part, has cute dimples and a pretty good singing voice. I'll give him a chance. I noticed that he's a lead on a series called World on Fire, which has actually been on my watchlist for a few weeks now. More reason to watch now, I'd say.
  20. Well I can't say I'm all that surprised that this didn't open to bigger numbers, as it just didn't look particularly interesting to me. Seems Feig and company were at least partially banking on Clarke's GoT popularity and Golding's CRA buzz but the latter was the least interesting part of CRA imo and the former's popularity is much more a result of the character she played than anything else. I do think Emilia shines more in this type of role so I don't doubt that she still manages to be charming enough.
  21. Yes Green Book winning despite its trash narrative is all the evidence we need that even worse movies like Harriet have a chance at the Oscars. No one ever suggested otherwise.
  22. No it isn't, as there are other black critics who didn't like the movie and plenty of other black folks who don't even want to see it. Armond certainly enjoys being a contrarian but panning this movie is hardly proof of that.
  23. This is ridiculous. If audiences wanted Snyder's version of the character, why have we yet to see another Superman movie? Fact is, MoS did not live up to its potential because imo the movie was a bore, lacking any real personality or charisma from the lead. And I don't blame Cavill at all, as he's shown that he can be quite charismatic. The problem is Snyder and his failed attempt at being dark and serious.
