  1. So this just — at worst — broke even on presales day 1. Nicely played, Taylor, nicely played.
  2. Yah my local Cinemark went from 4 to 7 on Friday and the original four are around 40-60% sold. 15 shows scheduled for Saturday and 13 Sunday.
  3. Over 10 million in presales already. https://deadline.com/2023/08/taylor-swift-eras-tour-movie-ticket-presales-box-office-1235533199/
  4. For whatever reason here in my corner of the Midwest, presales aren’t usually a big thing. But holy carp, I just checked my local Cinemark (all boring regular non PLF screens) and this thing’s four shows on the 13th are already 30-50% sold, and weekend seats are starting to sell too. And that’s at almost $20 a ticket (normal price tops out about $9.50 for prime time shows). They have it showing Thurs-Sun thought 11/5, with one Tuesday opportunity on Halloween. $100 million OW? Easy. Put me down for that and a $300 million+ total domestic.
  5. Well, the tweet was “favorite” not “best,” which aren’t necessarily the same thing. My favorite DC flick is Aquaman, which is not topping anyone’s best list. Anyhow good to hear some positive stuff about this movie. Sounds like something I will enjoy.
  6. Could be, but I’d think demand just burning off has got be a factor. Both films have been doing crazy numbers for 10 days and a cooldown is inevitable. I think the numbers are still good, just coming down to Earth.
  7. Finally caught this ahead of Barbie at the drive-in last weekend. Absolutely beautiful animation, fantastic voice acting…and a story so slight it’s hard to say it’s even there. I can see why it didn’t hit big and also why it’s 100% worth a ticket.
  8. Finally had a chance to sit down and watch this last weekend, and really enjoyed it. I’ve been playing D&D since I was a kid in the late Seventies, though it’s been a decade at least since I had a steady group and it was fun to catch all the references. The Time Stop spell, yeah, that’s how it works. TPK. The grasping hand spells, the wonky speak with dead spell, yup, check, check, check. Even the (barely) blur spell reference lol. And we got displacer beasts and intellect devourers. Intellect devourers for Gygax’s sake! And it’s set in the Forgotten Realms so of course Pine is a Harper and there’s an Elminster name drop…I can go on but you surely get the idea. As far as a D&D movie goes it was a massive improvement on the previous attempt and IMHO probably about the best you could ask for out of D&D flick. The fundamental problem, at least for me, YMMV, is just inherent to the concept: D&D itself is a huge pastiche of fantasy stories, novels, tropes, characters and races. Everything in the genre that’s been popular in the last hundred years has been ported in, statted out and folded/spindled/mutilated to fit. And while I like the game and I like the movie, at the end of the day I would really rather see the stuff that it’s based on. Give me a Three Hearts and Three Lions film, or an Elric miniseries, or just one decent Lovecraft movie. Anyhow, that’s my $0.02.
  9. I was thinking Snyder too, but a poster with “Who is Ken Galt?” above a pink Earth and below that, “Barbie Shrugged.”
  10. Well, WB and incredibly stupid go together like peanut butter and chocolate, so…
  11. Gerwig may not direct but I’d estimate that, on a scale of zero to 100 percent, the chances of a Barbie 2 are, roughly speaking, one billion percent.
  12. It’s a little bit like Indy. The movie has been in development hell since like 2010. I remember being excited about the announcement back then because GdT was supposed to write and direct. But he eventually dropped out and then there had to be a new script and new director and yadda yadda yadda all the usual stuff. And even then it was supposed to be out three years ago. So bottom line is the budget is bloated because it’s covering 13 years of spending.
  13. Yeah, Elemental has already left my local Cinemark while Indy still has five shows a day. Elemental is getting a double bill this weekend with Barbie at the local drive-in, tho…
  14. Yeah, I seem to have fixed the issues, took completely deleting the app and starting from scratch, but it’s working now.
  15. Yeah, unfortunately the chronological following feed doesn’t really work (you have to force quit and restart the app to get it to refresh and even then it only loads a few minutes of posts). But…baby steps, I suppose.
  16. Well, I did Oppy this weekend and Barbie is up next weekend, so my ticket money will be there!
  17. Probably, but the way these two films keep pantsing expectations I wouldn’t rule anything out.
  18. Well, FWIW I thought it was fine, there was no laughter in my theater and my daughter remarked afterwards that she wanted to see it, so as usual, YMMV.
  19. Saw Oppenheimer at my local Cinemark. This 1 pm show was in one of the smaller theaters (about 70 seats or so I’d say) and was about two thirds full. No reax at the end but there rarely is here. My wife, her mom and my daughter came along, everyone thought it was fantastic. Trailers were Marvels, Exorcist, Flower Moon, Haunting in Venice and Holdovers.
