Brolin has talked extensively with his battle with alcoholism and the instance you plugged out of Wikipedia happened more than a decade ago. You could do better than just repeating info withput context

Its not comparable at all with Miller who terrorized people as early as last year

Brolin is also a grown-ass man who should know better so it shouldn't matter whether his abuse was a decade ago??? He was still in his 40s at that point lol

  2. I'm really looking forward to The Flash and yet it's impossible to deny how much more appealing it would look if the CGI looked even remotely consistent! It won't ruin a great story, but it will diminish the impact of what I'm sure will be many action scenes.

So what was the critics problem here? Granted the critical reception is getting better than it looked at first, but certainly nothing like these audience reports in here. Though I mentioned last week this could be an audience/critics disconnect movie just bc I feel critics weren’t as praiseworthy of 2 as they should have been at a time when MCU almost never got “underrated” reception from them.

I just watched Guardians 2 for the first time last night and had a lot of issues, but I loved the first and hope 3 can recapture that magic for me.

I don’t know about that. How often do finished movies actually look noticeably better than the trailers?

Ordinarily I'd agree with you, and that still may be the case here. But I also doubt the VFX team said "the cut is unfinished," and all that was left to do was like 4 days of work. The truth is probably somewhere in between

I mentioned it in the GOTG3 thread, but with those reviews being where they are, and this seemingly getting similar or possibly even not quite as good of a response, we may only be getting a score in the 70s on RT which would be frustrating.

Yeah, it's a tough call. We saw more mixed reactions to Flash, but we also saw more hyperbolic ones like "One of the best CBMs ever" "One of DC's best". The only franchise-wide superlatives I saw for GotG3 was "Best since Endgame" or "Best since NWH". I could see the scores be close to each other, but a wider array of both euphoric and disparaging/neutral reviews for The Flash, instead of Guardians where many like it but few love it.

Shang chi has better reviews and audience scores than every dc movie in the past 5 years. Wakabda forever as well

The Batman and The Suicide Squad both have better critical scores than Wakanda Forever.

This thread has been feeling the toxic side effects of copium lately

best superhero movie ever hype might backfire

It 100% is and will continue to. Every blue checkmark from Variety included the "best superhero movie of all time" quote in their mixed or negative reaction. WB overcompensated for the Miller drama by saying it's one of the best instead of really good and a lot of fun or something.

  8. Yup, this feels like it has potential to be a huge hit with audiences but I think we're likely looking at a MC score in the 60s and an RT probably in the low 80s. Feels like something that could've easily been 90%+ before Endgame and general superhero fatigue set in with this recent phase. I don't expect this to garner The Batman levels of critical reception.

They're comic bloggers, not major outlet critics. Supes saying it's the best of all time means absolutely nothing about how actual critics will respond.

The Playlist, USA Today, and several other outlets that are either apathetic or a bit dismissive of CBMs really liked it. Not expecting David Erhlich to call it a masterpiece, but it's a good start lol

Wasn't just him, there was another negative reaction earlier and Borys Kit implied he's getting mixed bag reactions from people he knows. Not really that Top Gun: Maverick tier unanimous praise/love.

EDIT: And while there's some surprising positives, a lot of the positives to me (At least that I recognize) are absolutely the types to be vitriolic about superhero movies.

Your edit confuses me a bit, so I just want to clarify: you're saying it's surprising that some of the people who are really positive on the film are typically apathetic toward superhero fare? That's at least what I'm noticing from USA Today, The Playlist, etc.

This looks like a pretty good superhero movie, but in no way capable of transcending the genre the way the true "best superhero movies of all time" can; ie I expect this to be an excellent superhero movie, but just a good movie movie

I think this is probably the most reasonable post in this entire thread tbh

what time do reactions start pouring in?

please dont say when the movie is over as I dont know when that is

The screening takes place from 7:45pm-10:15pm EST, so reactions should hit twitter very shortly thereafter.

  13. I'm really not sure how you can watch this trailer and say it looks the same as Quantumania, Black Widow, The Batman, Shang-Chi, etc. in recent years. Even Multiverse of Madness, which I personally disliked, had a completely different approach to multiverse shenanigans.

I truly do feel the trailer's (and movie's) emotional core is/will be strong in a NWH-esque way, while hopefully providing more inspired action than that film. Good thing is we only have to wait a few hours to gauge some reactions -- which, reminder as always, are not to be taken as pure gospel.

  14. I thought this was a great trailer with inconsistent CGI. That shot of Supergirl and both Flashes on the battlefield is horrendous, while other sequences look terrific. This trailer has a clear, compelling emotional hook too.
