I appreciate the time you have taken to respond. A quick google search indicated that Lightstorm transferred all the rights to Avatar to Fox in 2005. Google search pointed me in the direction that 20th Century Studios is the copyright and trademark owner of all products related to the Avatar franchise. The copyright and trademark owner is by all intents and purposes the IP owner. Go to avatar.com and see who owns that and who is given credit for the copyright and trademark. Compare that to Lucas, who kept the IP from Fox, and the trademark and copyright to all products related to Star Wars. In that situation Fox only owned the distribution rights. In the Avatar situation it is different, as far as the evidence shows me. That's the most telling sign. If all 20th Century owned was distribution rights then, at most, they would own the copyright and trademark to release film(s) they distributed. The copyright and/or trademark for any merch, videogame, website, et. al. would be either Lightstorm or James Cameron like JKRowling has on Wizarding World or Sony has on movie related Spider-Man merch. The case with Sony is actually interesting because they own the rights to the movies they produce and they own the likeness to the characters on screen hence why if you buy a Spider-Man based off one of the movies you'd see ©CPII. None of that applies to Avatar and Lightstorm or Cameron. This is very telling on the ownership of the product. Lightstorm is the production company, so contract going through them makes sense. If you can share the docs you have seen that'd be appreciated, otherwise a run of the mill greenlight doc between an executive producer at distributor and the production company is standard. Marvel Studios and Feige go through the same process to greenlight their 200MM projects. That does not imply ownership one way or another. That simply states that your project has been approved for the budget you asked for. For the ripoff lawsuits 20th Century Fox was always included in every single case, presumably as the IP owner, even though the lawsuit is specifically against Cameron as the original creator. I will agree that Cameron has creative control over the franchise. That seems to be the case and he's involved in every decision around the franchise. Doesn't mean he or Lightstorm owns it though. His estate will also not have any ownership claims to the franchise, but they'll inherit Lightstorm and possibly continue his work. Trust me I've gone down this rabbit hole quite a bit due to people saying Cameron owns the IP and whenever I ask for proof and no one can provide me with anything. I always need to have proof before accepting something as fact regardless of what the claim is. If you can't provide proof and google searches and all research actually is pointing me that ownership is actually opposite of what you claimed then that is the most logical conclusion to take. I know people would love Cameron to own the IP same way Lucas used to own Star Wars, but that doesn't seem to be the case and the evidence is overwhelming to that not being the case.

Yes, I am sure he has creative control. Still a missed opportunity on both Disney and Cameron to not have a cartoon adaptation of the comics, raising Avatar awareness to kids who maybe never saw the first movie and more content for Disney+ He's probably like Kevin Feige with possibly a bit more control over the franchise and Disney wouldn't do anything without Cameron's blessing. Doesn't mean he owns it though. All evidence points to 20th Century Studios being the IP owner of the Avatar franchise. Which makes sense when you think about it. Fox and Murdoch were pissed that they let the Star Wars IP slip away, even selling the merch back to Lucas in exchange to be able to distribute the sequels. They weren't gonna let that happen again.

"The Scarlet Witch" coming in 2025. After she discovers she has the X-Gene and meets her biological father, Erik Lensherr Wanda freaks out and resurrects her mutant brother, Pietro Maximoff. She is convinced by her father that the world treats her like a freak and tried to hide her true identity from her. The Avengers tried to hide her true identity from her. He wants to reconnect with her and welcome her to his Brotherhood with people just like her. Pay me Kevin Feige.

I've heard people make that claim quite a bit, but no one has been able to provide any proof. If you can provide proof then I'll happily take it. If you can't then I'll provide proof that Disney owns the IP and if you can debunk then I'll take that as well. Based on all research I've done Disney, through 20th Century Studios, owns the IP. I mean the comic books that you mentioned are ©2021 20th Century Studios. JAMES CAMERON'S AVATAR is a trademark of 20th Century Studios. All Rights Reserved. There's no mention of Lightstorm or James Cameron owning the TM or Copyright. Compare that to JK Rowling and Wizarding World where she clearly owns the publishing rights for the IP. TM & © WBEI. WIZARDING WORLD Publishing and Theatrical Stage Rights © J.K. Rowling. Conjecture on my part, but Cameron does seem to have creative control over the IP while not having ownership. It may have been a condition for Lightstorm to transfer all the rights to the IP to Fox in 2005. And because Lightstorm, a company, transferred the rights to the IP and not James Cameron, a living person, then Section 203 of the copyright law does not apply and Cameron cannot regain the rights 35 years later like he regained the Terminator rights.

I need a trailer for this. I'm also surprised Disney hasn't done something for this franchise on Disney+. I remember post acquisition Iger saying that in his opinion Avatar has as big and expanisve world as Star Wars, but the problem is we just had one movie out at that time. How would we think of Vader or Luke after just ANH? Anyways, surprised Disney didn't order something like an animated TV show based on the Dark Horse comics or something like that. It seems easy enough to do, would get kids familiar with the world and it's all canon.

AnotherDayAnotherDollar replied to Eric the Ape's topic in Box Office Discussion
1. Avatar 2 - 550MM/1.5B/2B with China 2. Wakanda Forever 500MM/1.1B/1.2B with China 3. Jurassic World Dominion 400MM/1.1B/1.3B with China 4. Multiverse of Madness 400MM/1B/1.2B with China 5. The Batman 400MM/950MM/1.1B with China 6. Thor Love and Thunder 380MM/900MM/1.05B with China Outside of that I don't see anything else with a chance of 1B besides maybe Lightyear and Aquaman 2, which I think will move its date if Avatar 2 sticks with its December release. -
Actually watched it yesterday. I really liked it, but it's a slow movie. About 3 people walked out during the showing, one of them during . I think it'll be well liked after people end up watching it when it release on home video though.

I know you kid, but Sony can't release a movie that initially premieres on anything other than theaters unless Marvel consents and greenlights it. It's a frozen right as per the leaked contract (4. FROZEN RIGHTS AND CHARACTERS.) Only way they wouldn't need Marvel's consent to initially release a movie on streaming or DTV is if theaters get replaced by another distribution method for tentpole films by Major Studios.
