Idk a soundtrack choice for one TV spot is just one of many issues with the marketing so far. Not sure how far in advance they decide the marketing strategy but the emphasis on slapstick and boilerplate "be yourself" dialogue edits clearly was the wrong way to go here.

Conversely, pushing the immigrant stuff would just make it look too serious or have be accused of "woke."

God help all of us should Biden win a 2nd Term.. I'm sorry and I know it sounds like you're a fan an all, but in the end, his 36% approval rating is for a reason and it's time for him to go and his wife never should've allowed him to even consider a 2nd Term for health reasons.. Should Desantis win the Nomination, Biden is History in the 2024 Election..

DeSantis has all the charisma of a paper bag, his political instincts have proven to be lacking, and there's little about him that people outside of far right crazies in FL find appealing. We should still take him seriously, but he's not invincible.

I do think it's 90s or bust for Elemental. It's already handicapped by the crowded June and diminished enthusiasm for Pixar post Lightyear and people will only show up if it's top tier.

Indy 5 getting mediocre reviews though is good news for the movie's legs (even if a wash for Disney overall). If it is in fact high quality it will still look like the far preferable choice when that comes out. Hopefully that was the only gross miscalculation Disney made this year deciding what to send to Cannes.

The folks at Pixar can only hope.

Definitely, the trailers are selling a generic movie.

I don’t like the approach but maybe it’s for the best, if they make it clear the movie is about immigrants and inter-racial relationships maybe it would be under the radar of the alt-right crowd which would make even harder for it financially.

Looks generic but has a straightforward premise. It seems like back-to-basics Pixar and doesn't seem to be confusing people like Lightyear was.

Fair, but like i said the awful presales shouldn’t be such a problem for a movie like this, i don’t think it will open that low to be discarded so quickly and is also the only family movie along with the DW one until Turtles in August

If WOM ended up strong and show results by week 2, it should be enough for theaters find space for it even if in smaller rooms

That's why I don't see it collapsing like Lightyear did. Minions 2 stole all the oxygen in the room and delivered what families wanted from an animated Summer movie. Ruby Gillman could surprise, but that has even less awareness than Elemental does now.

I hope so. Let us see how things go at Cannes. I am not too excited seeing the trailers. Animation is gorgeous but voice acting has been super meh. Plus the theme has been played out in many movies. As many have pointed out it seems a combo of Inside Out and Zootopia themes.

Aren't all Pixar trailers like this? Basic premise, looks derivative or weird, then the movie usually takes people by surprise.

Now this is just being silly. Dreamworks may be on a comeback but apart from Puss, they haven't had a 100m domestic hit. Bad Guys got close thanks to a barren pre-Lightyear stretch and good WOM and a damn strong marketing campaign. Gillman has had one trailer and it wasn't even one of Mario’s attachment in addition to having far less awareness than Elemental and arguably stronger competition facing Indy. There's a better chance Elemental domestic outdoes Gillman worldwide.

Now Migration being the biggest animated original is something I can see because Illumination took over as the big animation brand this decade, Dreamworks still isn't there yet.

Hell, even Strange World had put out more  trailers than Ruby Gillman has at this point.

Seems like WB is campaigning for this movie as if it's life depended on it.

Well... they've been hemorrhaging money and this movie has a hefty price tag. So that's not completely inaccurate.

This movie has been hyped by its own property and the show biz like anything I’ve ever seen. Yet, the trailer looks kinda mediocre especially from a VFX and cinematic standpoint.

WB needs desperately The Flash to become a hit, after five flops in a row. Five. That’s crazy. They should’ve let Snyder finish his story with Darkseid back in 2017.

Letting Zack Snyder take over was part of why the DCEU has so much baggage is about to be rebooted in the first place.

And doing like a thousand random advanced screenings. There are two in LA and DC happening next week, and several in other countries. It's bizarre.

That may lead to more spoilers getting out and a sizeable chunk of people seeing it by then.

    I mean … they’re clearly desperate

But the movie can be great too, two things can be true at once

By all indications, the movie is really good. But, when your lead star is in rehab and has too many scandals to do press tours, you need to find any alternatives possible to promote the movie.

It feels a little desperate by WB. I don't see other studios doing this in terms of marketing, trying to get as many celerbity recommends as possible.

Also Kings audience is something I just don't see being interested in the Flash in the first place.

Desperation from WB? Maybe. But, any press not involving Ezra Miller is still good press.

Too bad Inside Out came out right before long-range tracking became a thing, would've been interesting to see how tracking evolved overtime for that before and after its Cannes screening, was also in a similar position at the time where upfront enthusiasm for Pixar movies had started to wane. At the very least I have to believe its glowing reception was a major factor in its huge opening weekend.

Definitely. Elemental needs similar reactions to stand a chance.
