I don't think they'll have an issue with this being seen as this previous universe. 18 months is a long time. And if the visuals are completely different, it should be a pretty clean transition.

I do think that the general audience won't think about this beyond "Hey, look! A new Superman movie!" Though the movie itself needs to deliver.

He'll be lucky to get any TV jobs in the next decade or so.

That said, the word of mouth for Elemental from those who have seen it do make me want to give it a shot. There's a new theater in my province which opened earlier in the year that I haven't gone into yet. Maybe I should jump in on discount Wednesday for Elemental.

    He's mostly a lead animator.

I think people are being way too hyperbolic, there are multiple things that can occur before Disney even considers closing down Pixar. I would imagine it'd be sequels, budget cuts, change of leadership and way way down is closing the studios.

Wish I think should do well, probably more of a Moana than a Frozen.

I do think the whole Disney is doomed narrative is a bit eyerolling, this is the company with many successful ventures and IP.

Agreed, but hyperbole and jumping to conclusions are the norm on this site.

Things are rough for Disney, no doubt. But the studio is nowhere near in enough danger that they could be shut down within the next 10 years.

You’d hope this is true, but the way they seem to be able to affect large brands who nearly do something like support lgbtq community is pretty scary to make you wonder if it’s way more people than just the old farts.

You're giving that crowd way too much credit than deserved.

why is $30m OW bad for elementals? thats stronger than puss in boots 2 5 day , stronger than the bad guys, better than sing 2. it has all summer to leg out with minimal competition for kids unless Ruby Gilman gets a miracle

Perhaps. But legs won't be as strong as Puss in Boots because it's not a holiday release. Doesn't help that it coats way more than those other movies.

I do have to wonder if the whole don’t say gay Disney backlash last year from the crazies in this country has genuinely affected Disney. It would make sense it would hit animation the hardest since these people tend to be your suburban family conservatives who would have lots of kids. Also the type who traditionally loved Disney. I mean, look at what’s happening to Target right now. These bigots are not just some niche or small problem these days, they’re pretty rampant.

Nothing to do with it at all. Mario wasn't hurt by people complaining about Peach being "Woke."

  7. So... those plans Iger had about leaving Disney after 2024? Yeah, I no longer believe he'll be gone by then. There's no way he can get all of the company's houses in order in just 18 months.

    - Numerous delays on the Marvel and Star Wars side

    - Disney+ is still costing them more money then it's earning them

    - The DeSantis situation

    - Their animated brands have lost their strength

I kinda feel Pixar's failure needs to be talked about more than DC's here. At least the main problem with the DCEU was that TOO MANY people were trying to do their own thing and it kind of fell victim to a clusterfuck of internal politics and splintered fandoms. But at least there were efforts being made, no matter how misguided.

With Pixar, with one exception (Inside Out), for more than a decade they coasted on inconsistent sequels of pre-established IPs and didn't pay much attention to original ideas. Finally when a crop of new concepts came around, Disney unceremoniously dumped them on OTT, even when people were ready to watch movies in theatres like in Turning Red's case.

At this point, it's viewed as a Disney+ brand other than the usual suspects like a potential Incredibles 3. I don't even know if TS5 will be a big success considering the mixed reactions to TS4, its almost zero cultural stay, and Lightyear's terrible performance. Pixar is way more fucked than DC IMO. Which is horrific considering how ahead it was of other studios in terms of quality and popularity in the 2000s

I wouldn't go that far... yet.

The Pixar fall from grace is insane. Elemental has to have an incredible 4x multi merely to match Lightyear DOM, which was an epic bomb. It’s absolutely dire. I simply don’t know what they’re going to do. Disney killed them with the D+ shaming and deluding of the brand, and they can’t seem to make a film anymore that really hits that classic Pixar top tier quality for most people either. Even their good stuff recently hasn’t fallen into that category.

Looks like it's up to Elio and Inside Out 2 now.

We all treated him too harshly.

Turns out The Rock was the only thing keeping Black Adam from being a complete disaster. He truly is a star.

The fact that having him fight Cavill as Superman might've genuinely been a better idea financially feels wrong to say, but depending on how Gunn's DCU forms... I know it sounds hyperbolic, but still...

Cavill had no contract with the studio, though.

They just shouldn't have panicked after BVS. Zack Snyder's cut of Justice League was well reviewed and loved by audiences. If they only have had more faith in the original plan, they would've had a great 2017 with Justice League also being a hit. If WB wasn't happy with the numbers the DCEU was getting back then, and thinking they should be making billion dollar movies, they should have made a more reasonable, long-term course correction, gradually making them more MCU-like, instead of the U-turn they took that made them release bomb after bomb after bomb.

WB made a mistake by trying to overcorrect the DCEU after BvS, but you're crazy if you think that Zack Snyder's Justice League would have faired any better back in 2017. Even if he hadn't left the project, WB was always going to keep Snyder on a tight leash after the negative reaction to BvS. No way they were allowing a 4 hour movie to be released in theaters.

Didn't matter which cut came out back then, it was always going to pay for the sins of BvS.

I don't know if audiences are going to understand or accept this as a reboot coming only 18 months after the last DCEU movie. It all starts running together and confusing people.

The Batman, with a 3 hour runtime and hard PG-13 rating during Omicron still made north of $700M because of strong reviews and word of mouth.

If this is good, the crowd will come.
