The Twitter people will hate him, but the general audience won’t really care that he’s working with JK Rowling. I want more Wizarding World content so I’m happy

The general public might not, but the problem is convincing the cast to return when they:

    1. Have moved on from that chapter in their careers

    2. Want nothing to do with Rowling

Disney Animation is quickly slipping back into the slump they were in during the 2000s. This movie is already a tough sell as is. Couple that with the devauling of the Disney Animation brand because of Disney+ and you'll get a guaranteed flop. The marketing hasn't really worked either, and there's barely any excitement for it. At this rate I wouldn't be surprised to see some major layoffs hit the main animation studio's way.

Encanto barely squaked past $200M worldwide, so I'm not as bullish on Wish as you are. The stakes on it are far higher than Strange World since while the latter's losses will be canceled out by Wakanda Forever and Avatar 2, Wish is currently Disney's sole holiday tentpole for both the Thanksgiving and Christmas corridors thanks to Blade's recent development troubles and Rogue Squadron being shelved. Good luck to it, because after the constant financial failure Disney's animated movies after Frozen 2 suffered it'll need it. Badly.

And we all know how that ended for the guy running Disney during that time...

Is it "ignorant" or is it "working the ref"?  Could be both, but I tend to think it's the latter, especially in the presumed context of the question/interview.  In that it's signaling that Bob Chapek sees animation released under the Disney banner as marketed more toward families.

Not exactly good working of the ref, and is absolutely going to go over like a lead balloon with many Disney fans (not to mention others).  But I'm guessing his comments weren't directed at Disney fans, but at folks who are probably pre-disposed to buy into the false notion that "cartoons are for kids".

Of course, as always, one of Bob Chapek's big weakness is either being unwilling or unable to consider that his comments get repeated outside of whatever context they're in and take into consideration how they'd go over with folks outside of the targeted audience.  Not a fatal weakness, at least not yet.  But it is a weakness, IMO.

It is a weakness, but I'd like to believe that after the Florida bill fiasco, he'll at least try to prevent it from becoming a fatal one.

That could be what kills him. Being CEO of Disney is different; head of Disney is expected to be good at PR and project a friendly, likable image in the tradition of Walt Disney. Image is all important to The Mouse.

Could be. But only if their financial situation worsens and his business acumen isn't enough to shield him.

At this point I really don't care if he's under contract - Disney Needs to find a loophole to have him removed from the office and fired at once for this kind comment! Just insulting to Walt and smack in the face animation fans of all ages.

Insulting and out of touch, yes. But nothing that's going to sink the company. Barring a major fiasco like a sex scandal or some tape of him going on a racist diatribe, Bob Chapek isn't going anywhere.

Having said that, he needs to get better at the Media/PR game.
