I don’t know why people still give him attention. Not only is he a hack who’s consistently off the mark, but he’s arrogant and either throws a tantrum or goes radio silent when whatever nonsense he says turns out to be wrong yet again.

This all makes me wonder how accurate his claims about Ballerina are, and if the movie is truly as bad as he claims.

  2. Yeah, I don't think the TVA's relevance to this story is going to hurt it to the same level the Disney+ connections hurt The Marvels. Loki, at least its first season, was very popular and a big hit. The TVA can also be easily explained as a shady timeline protector without any Loki context needed. All people need to know is that this is a result of Wade tampering with time to save his loved ones. It's not like any of the Loki characters are going to be in this anyway.

Since we’re apparently still talking about this movie, I guess I’d say that it’s interesting how far the general narrative around Marvel shifted since then. At the time, most everyone assumed this movie’s poor reception was a one-time fluke. An oddity. Marvel was still generally seen as a mostly invincible juggernaut, especially after NWH came out a mere month later.

I figured that the problem was that this was too different tonally and visually from what people were used to. That it’s more somber and quiet tone and less saturated color pallette made people uncomfortable. Since then though, Marvel has hit many more roadblocks, and even more “traditional” Marvel movies since then have been getting lukewarm, if not outright bad reception. We’ve had two MCU movies since then that have had B Cinemascores as well, the latest of which was The Marvels, which is an incredibly short movie that hits all those typical Marvel beats.

What seemed like a fluke at the time turned out to be a warning sign that the superhero bubble was finally getting ready to burst.

I attribute that to the rest of their output that year being very well-liked. Yeah, Eternals and the Disney+ finales weren't all that, and Black Widow is also divisive, but Shang-Chi, the series outside of the aforementioned finales, and especially No Way Home got a lot of acclaim. Their troubles didn't truly begin until they got too uppity with Multiverse of Madness's marketing and promised a movie that it simply wasn't. The rest is history.

Dune 2 , the savior of box office

Which is honestly hilarious against the backdrop of the source material's story, setting and themes. But yes, the pressure on that movie is going to be insane by the time of its release. But if anyone can handle it, it's Denis the Menace. The tracking thread is going to be a nailbiter for the rest of the month.

    200M here we come

This is out in my country on the 23rd. Funnily enough our distributor originally cancelled the theatrical release, but evidently they couldn't resist all the money this was making worldwide and decided to reinstate it, instead of just dumping it on Netflix and thus bypassing the mandatory 5-month theatrical window we have.

It sounds funny at first glance, but I do see where he's coming from. All that work not coming together in the final movie must not be a pleasant sight. He was among the few performers I liked there, so I hope he finds bigger and better work in the years to come. He's a famous guy who's well-liked in the industry, so I'm sure he won't have much trouble.

The movie is on Netflix so this is actually a good result, not an embarrassment like Soul and Turning Red.

Desert IMAX power. That's the one trump card this reissue has over the Pixar ones. Combine that with its huge cinephile/film buff following who will gladly shell out every penny needed for a PLF ticket, and you have yourself a solid result. I'm genuinely pissed it didn't come to my area, as I would've loved to see it. I rewatched it at home at least, and it still holds up today.

That title might be fake as there's a preview for the Superbowl teaser where the VO names the movie as

      Reveal hidden contents

We'll find out soon enough anyway

I've seen that supposed preview, and it's a complete fake. It reuses a lot of shots from previous movies. The final message doesn't even make sense, at it implies the preview would be out last week or a few days ago.

Hope the teaser/trailer delivers big time. They need the whole "CBMs are dead" crowd somewhat back.

I've said this a bunch of times, but Deadpool is an institution all on his own, like Batman and Spider-Man. Even if the franchise surrounding him falters, he can still thrive. His movies are also very distinct from the usual cape fare, so that crowd will likely make an exception here.

  10. Hollywood should at least try to put out more worthwhile content on Super Bowl weekends even if Sundays get hit hard. I blamed the Bowl for these hardships beforehand, but this thread made me realize that movies like American Sniper and Taken did surprisingly well even against that behemoth. So evidently the right product can make a living here. It gets numbing to watch the same dry desert at the same weekend every year.

  11. If it wasn't for the strikes, Lisa Frankenstein would've most likely been dumped on Peacock. It's a hyper-niche movie aimed at an audience nowhere near enough to carry a movie to its break-even point. Zelda got lucky here, but this failure will be a devastating blow for her chances of stepping out of his father's shadow. I hope she has a decent indie future at least.

An miserable weekend, no surprise there. I'd argue Deadline might even be overpredicting a little here. All these bad weekends do is to put even more pressure on Dune 2 to perform. Let's just hope those who saw the first one come back for more, because a Dead Reckoning-style underperformance is going to result in a lot of meltdowns across the board. We can also hope these dreary headlines hit studio stocks hard enough that they'll learn to be more reasonable with their workforce in the years to come.

But on a far better note, Poor Things was finally released in my country yesterday, and it actually is playing in my area so I got to see it. It's a batshit crazy, yet still fantastic movie. It's a miracle a movie like it was approved and funded by Disney and managed to reach a double-digit amount of Oscar nominations. I kind of want it to win Best Picture now just for the novelty and hell of it all. And the aspect ratio actually ended up fitting the auditorium my theater chose for it really well.

I do think there was potential for KFP as big trailer views showed but they kind of squandered it. Trailer was weak and looked cheap so not surprised start of presales is reflecting that.

I'm glad not to be alone on this. It looks bland as all hell and doesn't bring anything new to the table like Puss 2 did.

Maybe things could be turned around if the movie has good word of mouth. Have you heard anything about the quality of the movie?

He announced on Twitter recently that he's out of the scooperbro game, so he likely won't respond to this. Very unfortunate as he was the only likeable and the most reliable one of the lot. I think the initial Scream 6 hoax took a toll on him.

Zaslav will fuck with Gunns DC no question.

Sometimes I really wish DC could just break free and become an independent company like how Marvel was before Disney came in. That way Gunn could have all the power and fend off any meddlesome executives. The recent Coyote news has definitely dampened my hopes for the new DC universe going anywhere, I'm not going to lie.

There's a supposed leaked version of either the spot or the trailer going around with either a temp title or a title that seems to be to clearly not meant to be the final one in the marketing campaign and of course people are already mad

I don't think the trailer itself leaked, but there is a supposed title going around. It would certainly fit in with Deadpool's spirit.
