  1. https://deadline.com/2021/04/godzilla-vs-kong-box-office-profit-hbo-max-1234732050/ Anyone remember this? AT&T paid Legendary back Legendary's share of the production cost (75% of 165M) of Godzilla vs Kong in order to release it on HBO Max and, therefore, the theatrical break-even point was only 330M worldwide. Surely, sth similar happened with Dune behind the scenes (Legendary also footed 75% of the 165M bill)). So even if Dune cost 165M and another 165M was spent on marketing then it should have a similar break-even point as GvK had.
  2. Venom doesn't come out until Oct 15 in most international markets so right now we only have to worry about Bond. (Oct 1)
  3. It's funny how much hate MCU gets among industry professionals even though it's one of the main IPs keeping theatrical exhibition alive.
  4. Maybe the fact that Dune won't have the baggage TFA had will help it there.
  5. Again, I would wait to see Dune's legs before making any big statements but I'm getting the feeling that Dune will end up performing more like a Nolan movie than a Villeneuve movie.
  6. A lot of people know that there is a book called Dune but 99% have never read it, especially younger people and by younger I mean anyone under the age of 40.
  7. Let's see what the 2nd weekend drop-off is in the same territories before we call it one way or the other.
  8. Warner execs gave BvS a standing ovation and thought they had gold on their hands. They were completely blindsided by the negative critical reception.
  9. https://www.worldofreel.com/blog/2021/8/j14o0tnjg4o3up4i0arfhiscsa9md3 This is worrying. Is it possible that Villeneuve got lost in the material and the movie just doesn't make sense to people who are not already familiar with the material? If that's the case then the film is toast.
  10. Doubtful. On HBO Max it'll either be the same aspect ratio as the trailers (2.39:1) throughout or the black bars will disappear during Imax scenes (think TDK, TDKR, WW84) meaning a 1.78:1/16:9 ratio.
  11. Would be hilarious if they do this right after throwing shade at other studios for not helping theaters enough.
  12. Seeing how Dune does in Europe (no HBO Max, released a month early) vs US (HBO Max) will be interesting.
  13. PA not being available to 34m subscribers (and there are probably other countries in the same position) would help explain the discrepancy. And that $10-15 in Latin America was what BW PA cost? If so then that's also an important factor.
  14. This is to be expected when you put a blockbuster next to small indie movies. Still a very small sample size that largely consists of film buffs.
  15. Does anybody know how many subscribers Disney+ has domestically vs internationally? Because if the numbers are more or less equal then it would seem like piracy affected the movie internationally more than domestically. I would assume that the demand for an MCU film is pretty much the same domestically and internationally. Box office gross for the film is neck-and-neck (179M vs 189M) and yet there's such discrepancy between PA numbers (domestic 82% and international only 18%). Is piracy the reason? Or is overall percentage of international subscribers just that much smaller?
  16. You mean if Shang-Chi gets a China release and Eternals doesn't? If so then I can see Shang-Chi beating Eternals. But it's really hard for me to make a prediction because I have no idea how different the covid situation will be in November.
