  1. not familiar with the SK market or its terminology, those are good signs right?
  2. /tv/'s avatar release date celebration thread (where the blue frog counted down the days to avatar 2) https://boards.4channel.org/tv/thread/177945333 https://boards.4channel.org/tv/thread/177946609 yeah i'll stop the dooming now whatever happens happens
  3. I have absolutely no idea what is going to happen with avatar 2, my current range is an absolutely useless 1.3 to 2.5, and for every person who adores it theres one who really does not like it, dont think i've ever felt so lost when following a box office run, and though a coronation starting with the 2nd highest ow all time on the way to 3 billion would have been a lot of fun, I am starting to derive enjoyment, a lot of it, out of this very confusing and slightly worrying situation g'night
  4. dont worry too much just tanking my expectations so that im over the moon when the cameron magic (legs) kick in, and if they somehow dont well thats not my problem as my expetations were already tanked
  5. Read the blurb; as far as I understand theres nothing particularily wrong with the story, and it isnt any worse than those of other blockbusters; the movie is only a day old and im pretty sure the GA already believes the story sucks, lackluster might not mean bad, but thats how people will ready that. That has to be really deadly. Its almost unfair hows it been treated, not even JWD, with its 38 on MC got its story called out in the main blurb Ignore the fact that 2 weeks ago I was on the 3 billion train, the way things around going, I would be overjoyed with 2 billion (and could find a way to cope with 1.5 billion) I know im being a bit exhausting, but its been 13 years and its only in this final week that things began to go wrong
  6. yeah marveldcfox sometimes trolls a bit, but his heart is in the right place, there are reasons to be frustratred and its true that if the box office articles which come out of this weekened are mostly negative, then thats going to have an effect on the box office dont think his point was that avatar 3 was getting cancelled, think it more had to do that the studio wont allow him to present a 9 hour rought cut and will force him to present a 2.5 hour one
  7. has RT changed it verified rating process? its always seemed to me that RT verified scores alwats peak out of the gate before slowly coming down, but ever since nope pretty much every movie has started with meh verified scores on thursday only to have a pretty decent score by friday night
  8. fair seems like theres a decent amount of people this movie doesnt work that well for, at least compared to the first one, while at the same time those that really dug avatar 1 seem to enjoy it even more than the first one
  9. think thats Sheldon CR (used to go by Kal-El) , hes always in the avatar 2 thread
  10. My take on this movie in terms of opening weekend: - Everyone I know who is a big fan of film/movies, are iffy about this. They might give it a try in theaters, simply because it's a 3D event, but they're not particularly excited for it; thus they might not go opening weekend. The biggest "gripe" I've heard from these kinds of people is that the trailers don't make the movie look compelling enough. Sure, effects look nice, it looks somewhat unique and different, but the story (or lack thereof) is the iffy thing. - People I know who go to the movies somewhat on a regular basis are iffy on it, simply because of the additional cost per ticket for 3D viewing. A couple theaters in my area only have the 3D version, or limited viewing times scheduled for the 2D version. - It's CGI sci-fi, which doesn't grab a lot of people. Heck, sci-fi in general doesn't grab a lot of people. Even though it looks to very much be an action movie, people might not be able to look past the "Fern Gully"-and-"Halo"-made-a-love-child look of the movie. - It's not an established series or the like, such as "DC Extended Universe" and "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them". - While "Terminator 2," "Aliens" and "Titanic" are great films, and iconic in their own right, a lot of teens and college-aged moviegoers might not grasp the importance those films had on their respective genres, and on filmmaking. So, they might not care so much that "Avatar" comes from the man who envisioned those worlds. - And likewise to above, James Cameron isn't exactly a household name these days. And the people who do remember his major contributions to entertainment are likely parents these days, or have other obligations that might take up their time on the weekends. Not to say they won't see it, but it might not be opening weekend. I'm seeing it opening day, with my dog. We're off that day, we'll be three days into having our new place, and it'll be a good getaway for several hours. It'll be my first IMAX 3D experience, and its as well. I've always thought of it as a gimmick of sorts, but I figure if I'm gonna get my IMAX 3D cherry popped, it should be with "Avatar." I'm eager to see if Cameron and crew do reshape the way people view movies. Am I excited for it? No, not really; although I do think, if I do see this movie, it should be in the theaters, much like "Independence Day" or "Jurassic Park." It's a theater-going experience kind of movie.
  11. ´+13% over JWD is pretty grim and means less admits than it (even if there are important factors that will result in a lower ow) all up to legs now
  12. this is a bit disheartening always dangerous having to rely on above average legs to get to what many (and I) saw as a lock (2 billion); and seeing a 200 million drop in projections will always sting even if the magic happens legs-wise it seems like we all slightly overstimated how much (initial) interest there was in avatar
  13. What I really dont get is why, despite having all the time in the world, did Cameron still left himself vulnerable to the "weak story" line of attack Cameron says he spent 5 years working on the scripts with a group of writers, but it seems that even the GA, and not only "prentious " critics are finding some issue with the story, heck, I even found 2 reviews which gave it a 100/100 saying that the story is nothing special If youre making a sequel to the highest grossing movie of all time why wouldnt you try to adress what some see as the original's biggest problem? Theres even people complaining that the story is too similar to the original, which makes wonder what exactly it is that he was doing during those 5 years

  15. Hey Bruce, I know you (like I) had very very high expectations for the movie, were you ultimately satisfied with what you got?
  16. nah the problem here is the movie itself all of our super high predictions expected better wom than this
