Still waiting for them to make Shang-Chi 2.
Does not seem like it is coming anytime soon if at all. Dustin Daniel Cretton is moving on to SpiderMan 4 it seems. It is crazy. Legend of the 10 Rings was the number 2 movie of 2021 DOM behind NO Way Home.

I thought I read that WB did some double bills with Trap and BJ BJ
Everytime somebody abbreviates Beetlejuice I turn into Beavis and Butthead

I doubt that will happen, though. There is no way this finishes with 75M domestically.
Yeah unless it's terrible it should go over 100 easily. It's the only big movie targeting men this holiday season since most of them are targeting families and women. I mean there is Kraven The Hunter I guess. LOL

Overseas 300+
Domestic 75+
Golden compass 2.0
If that's the case and the movie is good to great then shame on DOM audiences and the target older male's for not getting off their butt again and going.

Pretty good hold for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice but I have a hard time seeing 300 million happening considering it does seem to to be playing to families and with two animated movies these next two weeks it is going to be really tough.

Curious how frontloaded Am I Racist? will end up being considering its extremely narrow audience likely came out in full force for it this weekend.
If we were not in the darkest timeline we are in right now it would drop 100% and not make a another cent.

huh? Even if it had some crazy late acceleration (no indication of that so far as all the big time ramp ups for this year already had strong early presales), it would still likely miss $10M previews, therefore missing $70M+ OW
Yeah the copium with some people thinking this will be backloaded or something. It's the sequel to a extremely popular movie with a locked in fanbase or so we thought because they do not seem locked in anymore.

Watched Top Gun Maverick again last night. There is a reason that movie made over 700 million DOM and no movie since has come close to that and no movie on the schedule seems like it will be able to get to that number except maybe one or both of the Avengers sequels. It is just a dam perfect popcorn blockbuster that does everything right and does the 36 year later Legacy sequel thing just right. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is a solid good watch but it does not come close.

What's really funny about this is they did not want to do a sequel and I think Zaslav pressured Phiilips into doing it. I think the same thing happened with the Hangover with WB and Phillips. And in both cases he seems to have made movies that are middle fingers to the success and the fans of the first one. The Hangover 2 was still a big hit though even most people hated it or really disappointed in it.

I rewatch the first movie weeks ago. Even better than I remembered.
Okay you were making a joke then. Got it. And yes the movie is great. One of the modern classics.

I just realized Phoenix doesn't star Gladiator 2. I guess he also dumped this movie five days before principal photography?
Ridley can claim for compensation if it flop.
Uh. Not sure if you are trying to be funny here or just not seen the the first movie but he was never going to be in this movie for reasons that I will not spoil in case you have not seen the 24 year old movie yet.

It's all personal opinion. I though both Venom films were not very good.
They are not very good. When I see people say The First Venom was their favorite CBM of 2018, the year of Infinity War, Black Panther and Into the Spider Verse I am just like seriously Cmon.

You know what we should keep talking about is how Superman will fail before we see a trailer or the marketing starts up or how good it is because Joker 2 is failing for any number of reasons and because the GA/Casuals are morons and can not separate them. Or maybe not keep doing that.

It's so weird he gets fired from every job in the hollywood trade community. At some point he might want to ask himself Is it me?

I wonder when we'll get the first trailer for this. Maybe with Gladiator 2 or they wait until next year?
Gladiator 2 seems very likely. Same core demo. They could wait a few weeks later and put it front of Sonic 3 but that scews kids and families. With the May 23 release I do not see them waiting until next year.

I definitely think this maybe is part of the problem lol. There´s so many viral posts mocking this movie over the endlessly amount of times they played the trailer in front of everything
That said, horror is always the more likely genre to have insane walkups. Maybe despite the presales suggesting low 10M, good WOM can push it to 15M or so, which should be fine for a cheap movie
That trailer was one of the most offputting unpleasant trailers ever. Of course I say this as somebody who is not a fan of these types of movies and had to see the godamm trailer at every live action movie I saw for the last 5 month but still I am probably not alone.

This doesn't make much sense considering that the first Joker wasn't affected.
Not saying that Superman won't pay for the sins of previous Superman movies, but when talking specifically about the joker movies, I just don't see Joker 2 being affected by the DC brand when the first one wasn't.
With that said, sure, I can see this one's second weekend being bigger than Superman's OW if it does as well as the first Jurassic World. That one did 106M on its second weekend.
Exactly. The argument they seem to be making here is that Joker was a big hit because the DCEU was in great shape. Okay. Sure....

Honestly, I'm just gonna expect a bunch of big meltdowns over Joker 2's (now unfortunately very likely) failure at this point.
Not to derail the thread, but If those people threw the "cinema is dead" narrative when a Mad Max prequel bombed and when a Ryan Gosling led action comedy flopped, then it would not surprise me in the slightest if it's thrown around again when Joker 2 bombs.
That's why I'm praying that sales can improve these next couple of weeks. If not, we're gonna be in a rude awakening that October 4-6 weekend.
And yet we still just had a movie open to 111 ,we have two animated movies that look like they will do pretty well and joker will still probably open to more than any movie not named ERA's or Five Nights at Freddy's did last year. Not as good as it could have been but still much better than last year.

Alright, are yall ready for a spicy take?
This will be #1 on the July 11-13, 2025 weekend
Yes I think it may be because I am not convinced that Superman will stick with that date but no it will have nothing to do with what is going on with Joker right now.

Watching that was so sweet. A truly miserable man getting his ass handed to him tonight.
