I'm looking forward to seeing Furiosa on Monday, but a "Mad Max" movie without Max always seemed like a very risky bet. The trailers weren't really great either. I'm disappointed by the opening yet not surprised.

Yeah i think we need to step outside the bubble. THE GA was not interested in this and never was. It sucks but it is what it is.

Can someone explain why that Empire City account on Twitter blows a gasket anytime anyone even remotely says anything about theatrical being in danger? It's not a normal disagreement, it's like FUCK OFF YOU FUCKING MORON YOU'RE A STUPID FUCK!!!!

What's his skin in the game and why does he care that much?

Most around here think he is a theater manager or owner or something I think.

"if" is the big key word here. And those movies aren't looking too good either. We're probably going back to 2021 where audiences are too stupid to watch anything that doesn't have the Marvel logo on it. Oh well.

I feel we all need to step  from this sometimes . It's not healthy for any of us. The GA do not give a shit about any of this. They are just living their lives and movies are not a big part of that right now. It is what it is. Movies will keep coming out and theaters will be around.  Did you enjoy Furiosa when you saw it today? That''s all that matters

Honestly, I'd just give up if I wanted to make it in Hollywood. This whole industry's fucking cooked. What's the point anymore?

I mean yeah it's easy to do this in the moment but like I said a few posts ago 3 weeks from now if IO 2 and Bad Boys break out it will be much better. Can hollywood survive with a 3 or 4 good weekends and then 10 bad weekends depends on how good those good weekends are I guess.

So deadline just put up there estimates ummmm their 3 day weekends make no sense considering Sunday will be a single percentage drop or increase did they forget that

Yep deadline anthony math terrible as always. If that makes one dollar an hour it's one dollar too much. Still not great weekend but will not be as bad as he is saying.

This has been one of the worst overall May performances I could remember and makes last year look like Gangbusters.  "Apes" is the only big success and that was actually more of a "Mild" Success.    June is much more promising with "Bad Boys" and "Inside Out 2".  "Quiet Place" could be a wild card.   Also for people saying "Gladiator II" could suffer "Furiosa" Fate (I get the comparison, as a film sequel/prequel that doesn't bring back anyone main stars from the original, Twisters is in the same boat).   I got one word for you "DENZEL".   He's still a draw.   People will go since he's in it.

Yeah not worried about Gladiator 2 at all if we get Gladiator, American Gangster, Martian. Last Duel Ridley but if is more Robin Hood, Exodus, Napoleon Ridley than yeah. The industry buzz is good but that may mean nothing. But the trailer blew people away at Cinema Con and Denzel will be the name and the supporting cast is great to back up Mescal who may have a Crowe like breakout if everything goes right.

  7. Yep this thread is a happy ray of sunshine despite not having any actual friday estimates yet,. Can we time travel to 3 weeks from now when IO 2 opens and Bad Boys ROD is enjoying a strong second weekend as the father/son alternative to that more family/mother-daughter leaning movie. Or both movies struggle and don't break out in any real way to liven things up. The former is more likely but at this point can not rule out the later sadly.

So, Furiosa obviously might be a flop. No matter how good it is. It's a very expensive movie. Mad Max isn't even a insanely huge IP. It's madness spending 200 million for this kind of movie.

There won't be another Mad Max flick, unless Miller goes on full "Copolla mode" and tries to invest on his own movie, lol.

Well as I have said about too many movies lately I hope I enjoy it. Not anything I can do about the financials of it. That's their problem.

I knew it was coming out and watched it.   But where was it marketed?  In the old golden days. You would have seen full page ads and such, but no more. If you dont go to movies regularly you never see a preview.   Streaming like most people do they wont see promos any more.   I am trying to recall other than maybe the SB if I ever saw it on TV.

Well that may be the problem I guess. Gosling and Blunt were  everywhere. Every talk show, SNL late night ect. Obviously there is a whole potential audience that is passing that stuff by now. Esp younger people which is why the majority audience for it was 35+.

I talked with handful of people after seeing it and most of the them had no idea it was out.  So many of my friends have fallen off the movie train now.

I do nor know your friends so I can not speak for them but the marketing for this  was everywhere. Not sure how people can not be aware. This really is a huge problem if people are just tuning out movies that completely now.

    Garfield MTC1

    Previews Final -  31571/385068 433079.14 2576 shows

    Friday - 20936/604770 288957.36 4024 shows

Actually that is a great finish for this movie. Thinking 1.8m thursday and another 500K for early shows. I am expecting great walkups through the weekend and so low 30s 3 day and close to 40m until the memorial day.

I hope we can say the same about Furiosa.

you can jab at this ridiculous thread for Zilla and Apes making less than 100m domestic. That was a huge fail for sure. So you must be happy he is against MI8.

Yeah for sure. imagine they has bad right about those 2 movies not doing 100m +.  These last two months would be worse than they have been.

wow. That’s actually really high interest for Mufasa there this far out. Like… surprisingly high. 56.14% interest is abnormally high at this point. Heck, this is bigger than Garfield’s interest, which is 51 percent. What’s interesting to me is that its interest is higher than its awareness. 48% for awareness.

i know the Quorum isn’t the best source for opening weekend or overall interest but its a good sign. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

I have thoughts but do not feel like being negative and snarky right now.
