  1. Didn’t NHF come out during the summer? I think we should be comparing this to Don’t Worry Darling.
  2. I can see this happening if the WOM is very very good. Also the target audience needs to really be interested. I’m part of the target audience ( 20’s, Zendaya fan, Female) and I’ve seen this being discussed positively on my TikTok feeds, similar to Anyone But You but in a lesser scale. I’m cautiously optimistic.
  3. Yeah it’s definitely not winning anything, but exposure tonight might help. This movie needs all the help it can get at this point.
  4. I really liked this, but this is not a wholesome story at all. Actually, I would urge you to read a brief summary somewhere. The singing and acting was great. Directing could have been better considering the various pacing issues. I still recommend it though (but I would not recommend going in blind).
  5. So happy Anyone But You is doing well. Now can studios release more romcoms to theaters?? Does anyone know of any is scheduled to release this year?
  6. These TCP numbers are very disappointing. I’m a 28 year old black woman who enjoyed the movie. I don’t see myself seeing it again though. The directing is very uninspired (especially the pacing) and the musical numbers aren’t integrated well in the movie. I preferred the Broadway version. However, it’s very sad how a Tony awarded musical based on a popular book can only interest one demographic (older black women). This box office performance will further prove that “black” movies can’t have a wide appeal in the box office unless it’s superhero or horror. Just sad all around.
  7. The general audience is even more fragmented than before.
  8. I think another issue is TCP is a musical. Unfortunately, many in the black community aren’t fond of musicals and apparently it wasn’t clear in the trailer. WOM is spreading and causing many to wait till streaming.
  9. Yikes to TCP. Is it because it’s not really a family film and the primary demographic went back to work? The weekend will be the real test.
  10. Yes that is true. The musical toured in many states years ago so other demographics will be familiar with it (without watching the original).
  11. I hope this is not the case. The good thing is The Color Purple is a popular book and the previous movie is well known. Trying to be optimistic.
  12. I agree with some of your points. I think people are fine with Wonka’s numbers since it’s doing well internationally and it’s also a musical (those have been bombing the past few years). I do agree with the reaction in the threads for The Color Purple. It’s doing amazingly in presales but if feels like many people are down playing it. I can’t wait for the reviews to come out tomorrow. As a huge musical fan, I’m hoping The Color Purple and Wonka both exceed expectations this holiday season.
  13. Very very early but audience score is sitting at 88%. I’m really hoping this gets to at least 400M. I enjoyed the movie and can see myself watching it again. Hopefully, others did too.
