Part of the reason is that the studios are not interested in giving one platform exclusive rights to content. They want the films to be available on iTunes and other retailers.

Excellent arguments. I thought Arrival was good but not that great and definitely enjoyed Interstellar + last 3 Villeneuve movies more than this one.

Well, Warners' last 1B movie is TH1, no? And even that one made 'only' 1021M. So quite sure Tsujihara would like to finally produce a massive, massive hit.

Allied 6-7M 3-day weekend. Rules seem like something for critics only and Santa 2 is like 10 years too late.

Arrival should have been released in October.

1.1M for Billy Lynn is absolutely shocking. And Edge of 17 is not much better. Sure, production budget is low but with amazing reviews and almost 2 months since TIFF screening they had a lot of time to make people excited.

Fantastic Beasts OW under HP1 and Dr. Strange is very dissapointing.

Pearl Harbor is better than any TF sequel.

If it's entertaining and fun then 240-260M. If not 180-200. Logan I'd be surprised if it makes more than 120-140. PR will have poor legs, Beauty is another 350+ hit, no doubt.

Honestly I'm dissapointed. It looks like a video-game or just your average CG extravaganza no. 32488.

This year so far: 1. Sing Street 2. Zootopia 3. Arrival

It was very good but personally enjoyed Sicario a bit more. However last 20 mins are powerful, no doubt.

Genuinely surprised how good this movie looks.

So Arrival was good. It's not a masterpiece or Villeneuve's best movie or so but it's still very, very good. 8/10
