    Alien which has easily recognisable story & archetypes is definitely a much more audience-friendly type of movie, hence its advantage over Blade Runner's more cerebral themes & opaque storyline. Unless you are a serious cinephile, I don't think the average moviegoer would understand what director Scott is trying to get across. I have to trawl the internet & hit the books on film criticism to understand what the movie is trying to say when I first saw it as a teen.

    Alien was widely loved and the 1979 film made more than $250M adjusted today. Look at Prometheus, did OK but nowhere near the original. Villeneuve is on a roll. The cast is very impressive. I will be there. And it probably did $80M to $110M DOM.
