  1. The skills & expertise shown in Mad Max Fury Rd are either absent or seriously lacking in both JW & AoU. JW has interesting ideas & themes that never get the payoff. But the character setup is great and I am eager to see what the next creative team would do with the world set up by Trevorrow in JW1. AoU has that "evil world-destroying AI" plot that has been done to death since Stanley Kubrick introduced Hal in 2001 (1968) and something which has been re-visited again and again in movies like the Terminator movies, I Robot, Matrix Trilogy, WarGames, Short Circuit etc etc.
  2. I love it when people try to bring down Mad Max like a flimsy movie to put JW on a pedestal. Except Mad Max doesn't posit that you're a bumbling idiot if you enjoy a wacky mutant albino shredding on his flame-thrower guitar while cars are exploding all over the screen lamenting the death of "true Hollywood spectacle in the good ole days" (in the nineties LOL) saying "The Road Warrior was leggit!". No, we came for the over-the-top wackiness and Miller revels in it without any shame. Why would he, because it's exhilarating and entertaining as it is on a surface-level, you feel he truly loves the madness that he's making. The hipsters are not the ones who criticize JW's cynical pose, the hipster is Trevorrow's self-awareness attitude that thinks he's better than that and wants us to know he's above it as well while failing to stage action scenes half as exciting and involving as FF (embodied in that annoying tech guy character's attitude). ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I feel that Trevorrow is the best guy to do a Jurassic Park movie or Stars Wars sequel. But that doesn't mean he is not talented. The decision is strange when the talent pool is so wide & diverse in Hollywood. I initially thought that Trevorrow may get a deal, 1 noisy blockbuster for 1 passion project. Kinda like Spielberg did with Universal when he gets to do Schindler's List after Jurassic Park, and Amistad after the Lost World. He is doing Book of Henry next with Focus. Focus is under Universal. Is this the deal?
  3. I don't know about you but Lone Ranger is not as disastrous as many think. If I had an advanced preview, i will peg it at $120M. Western is a tricky thing. If you go for general audience, they will not bite, e.g. Lone Ranger. Those who love traditional Western cannot see an Injun fighting alongside the Hero. But if you stay within the genre's core audience, they will come in droves, e.g. the explicably successful True Grit ($171M)
  4. Like I said before JW & F7 both create a vortex of mediocrity in the market
  5. The trifecta creates a vortex of mediocrity for the rest of the summer.

  8. The idea, concept is actually very good. The execution is poor. The executives who conceptualize this thing has the right ideas but has poor handling of talents, people management & operation controls.
  9. Mad Max & Rogue Nation are quality stuff. The rest is as forgettable as most movies in the summer season.
  10. Their effort to reboot their scifi franchises have failed so far: Predators didn't get any trophy, Prometheus doesn't create new organism, the new Alien sequel gets a hit-or-miss Blomkampf (sp?). But the Apes series are doing very well. Disney keeps all the best franchises: Star Wars, Avengers, Indiana Jones, Pixar, Pirates. I don't know how Paramount loses Marvel after the orgasmic success of Iron Man, and Fox losing Lucasfilm to Disney??? I mean, as far as Fox is concerned, they can't rely on ames Cameron who works on a 10 years-movie schedule.
  11. Then the upcoming movie called Man Down, not a very auspicious title, co-starring Jai Courtney, must be the unluckiest movie ever. Transcendence, 2014, opened with $10M, with 60% drop in 2nd weekend. Deadfall, 2012, co-stars another box office downer Olivia Wilde, grossed $66,000 She has a 5-minute role, and flashes her badge to Tony Stark in Iron Man 2, and it is the worst Iron Man movie. She is attached to F4 sequel due in 2017. But she is in the awesome 1st season of House of Cards with Kevin Spacey. Maybe she is not meant to be in big budget movie?
  12. Why pay him $25M? He is not tested in scifi genre before. Elysium is not exactly mega-successful. Even the Bourne series doesn't get him 25. 15 or 17 maybe, 25?
  13. Make the movie, forget about the franchise. Once you have a great movie, the franchise will build itself. Agree?
  14. Ok I will support Fox keeping the rights with 1 condition: Quicksilver spin-off standalone movie.
  15. C'mon, how many times they are gonna reboot X-Men. They re-cycle the series once already. People gonna smell evil double-dipping and bail. Look at F4. Look at Mockingjay Part 1. People hate it when their pockets get double-dipped.
  16. Fox is done with the Superhero genre. One more Wolverine from Fox, Marvel will reboot X-Men & F4 under Disney once they get the rights back.
  17. Miles after F4 But you are right, Miles will always have Whiplash to be happy about
