  1. ROBOCOP should no problem getting to $40M at least Glad Smaug is doing more than OK.
  2. RE: SW7 May not have the same popularity as the previous movies, even the prequels. The OS may still be huge. PHANTOM MENACE did $754M DOM adjusted. I won't be surprised if SW7 did less than $500M DOM. Unless JJ bring something more than just flares & shakey cams (an annoying fad that needs to die a quick death!) MJ2 is locked to be No 3. Bond 23 is something special. But domestically it will be monumentally challenging to top SF without villain as fantastic as Bardem. I do agree reboots like JW & T5 GENESIS will not scale 1B WW height but I also don't see any potential breakouts from either. Those 2 movies may be exciting for fans but tiresome for regular audience. And after DRAGON2, SMAUG, WALKING WITH DINO & GODZILLA how many giant lizards GA can take? Pixar's GOOD DINO will have an even harder time to make an impression. GA wants DORY not Barney...
  3. Should change this to a "$1B WW Club?" Can 2015 at least do what 2012 achieved : 4 $1B WW movies. JW has the potential of earning $1B WW
  4. Choked everytime I watch that scene. It's a nice metaphor for anyone who has been discarded by the Big Boys.
  5. Too bad for ROBO. Here's a little something from the much superior 1987 version:
  6. I ma surprised MACAU is doing so well. Chow Yun Fatt is an evergreen movie star
  7. RE: JUPITER ASCENDING One poster is right when he/she said that the look of JA (from the trailer alone) is risky. I am not trying to judge the book by its cover but it does look like a lot of visionary scifi that in the end disappointed. Very few scifi actually sells the fantastical landscape very well (with the exception of AVATAR). The original MATRIX takes place in different world and the most successful of the series, creatively, is the 1st one where there is very little of the hardcore scifi "post-apocalyptic" scenes. Most of the scenes of MATRIX 1&2 takes place in a realistic world of concrete jungle. When they switch to ROBOCOP meets TRANSFORMERS mode in MATRIX 3, I think a lot of audience checked out. INCEPTION has a mind-boggling concept but the story sells because it revolves around a love story.
  8. In fact Hollywood is rather adventurous with scifi last year. ELYSIUM, ANOTHER EARTH, OBLIVION & AFTER EARTH are all attempts to give fresh twist on the traditional genre conventions with varying degrees of success.
  9. AVATAR. Remember that movie? GRAVITY is kinda scifi. PROMETHEUS & PAC RIM are reasonable successes. APES franchise is building up nicely.
  10. BATTLE: LA, TOTAL RECAL, AFTER EARTH, and now ROBOCOP. Sony has no luck with hard scifi.
  11. Not a very encouraging turn of events..
